00:03 Now back to the news.
00:05 A director of the legendary 90s sitcom Friends didn't hold back any punches after calling
00:10 one of its cast members on the show "not funny," the Daily Mail reported.
00:15 Director James Burrow had a lot to get off his chest when he admitted that UK actress
00:19 Helen Baxendale, who played Emily Waltham in 14 episodes of the show, couldn't gel
00:23 with other cast members because she wasn't as comedic.
00:27 "She was nice but not particularly funny," Burrow said.
00:30 "In sitcoms and any type of romantic comedy, the funny is just as important as the chemistry,"
00:36 he continued.
00:37 Baxendale joined the iconic sitcom, which first aired on September 1994, during its
00:42 fourth season.
00:44 She played an integral role on the show as the girlfriend and fiancé of David Schwimmer's
00:48 character Ross.
00:50 Ross mistakenly said his ex Rachel's name instead of Emily's during their wedding in
00:54 the season 4 finale, dooming the on-screen relationship.
00:58 In earlier seasons, Schwimmer's Ross was in a relationship with Jennifer Aniston's lead
01:03 character Rachel.
01:04 Burrow claimed Baxendale's so-called "nice" demeanor just didn't cut it for him, where
01:08 he made the point and emphasis that any new girlfriend for Ross needed to be as funny
01:13 as Rachel.
01:14 Ross mistakenly said his ex Rachel's name instead of Emily's during their wedding in
01:18 the season 4 finale, dooming the on-screen relationship.
01:22 In earlier seasons, Schwimmer's Ross was in a relationship with Jennifer Aniston's lead
01:26 character Rachel.
01:28 Burrow claimed Baxendale's so-called "nice" demeanor just didn't cut it for him, where
01:32 he made the point and emphasis that any new girlfriend for Ross needed to be as funny
01:36 as Rachel.
01:38 Since then, she spoke about her tenure on Friends with the Sunday Mirror in 2012, describing
01:43 her time on the show as a "strange serial little blip in my life."
01:47 People expect because it is called Friends that everyone was great friends, but they
01:51 were real professionals, Baxendale said.
01:54 Over the course of time on the show, Baxendale realized her vital role on the show was parlaying
01:59 over into the real world, and not in the way she desired.
02:03 Baxendale said the show made her more identifiable than ever.
02:06 "You couldn't walk down the street to buy a pint of milk.
02:09 In fact, you couldn't go anywhere.
02:11 It was impossible to mix with the crowd and do what ordinary people do," she admitted
02:15 to the Mail in 2012.
02:17 "I saw the fame as a gilded prison.
02:20 It was something I wasn't prepared for," she said.
02:24 Baxendale went on to say how she didn't regret coming back to the US after she headed
02:27 back home to the UK to restart her life.
02:29 "I'm not going to go back to the UK," she said.
02:30 "I'm going to go back to the US."
