00:00 Jackson Cooper here with UTVdriver and today we are going to go through 5 things we love

00:03 and hate about the 2024 Yamaha Wolverine X2.

00:08 Let's get into it.

00:14 First thing we love about the Wolverine X2 is that it has an R-Max engine in it.

00:18 It has a 1000cc parallel twin engine that comes from the R-Max and that engine completely

00:23 changes up this machine.

00:25 It changes it from a little workhorse that you might take out on the weekends, it turns

00:29 into something that you would be proud to spend money on.

00:31 The second thing we love is that this has Sachs piggyback shocks.

00:35 It gives it 13.3 inches of travel and it really brings this machine to life when you are on

00:40 the tight trails.

00:41 Now these shocks are fully adjustable and while it's great to have, most of the time

00:46 you'll just set it and forget it.

00:48 It comes on the middle setting and we rode on that all day.

00:52 Didn't really adjust them and you probably won't have to either.

00:55 But it is extremely nice knowing that that's there.

00:58 The third thing that we love, this thing has great towing and cargo capacity.

01:02 You can tow 2000 pounds with this thing.

01:04 That rivals most utility rigs.

01:07 And while you're doing that, you can also throw 600 pounds of stuff in the back.

01:11 The fourth thing that we love is that this thing is made to be customized.

01:15 It has six different auxiliary switch ports in it.

01:19 And the best thing about it is that the aux switches, they're not the plastic rectangles

01:23 you get on most machines.

01:25 They're just little rubber tabs that you can just pull out and install your switches right

01:29 in.

01:30 It's extremely easy to do and the Yamaha team even did that with the demode switch right

01:34 before we got here.

01:36 And the final thing that we love about the 2024 Yamaha Wolverine X2, it is extremely

01:42 durable.

01:43 Yamaha gives their 10 year belt warranty with all of their Wolverine side by sides and this

01:48 one is no different.

01:50 Most of the time, the belt will probably outlast the machine.

01:54 That's how good of a transmission this thing has in it.

01:56 The other thing is, all of the suspension parts, the tires, the wheels, the A-arms,

02:02 the tie rods, all of that is extremely durable.

02:06 We were out here for four hours and we only had two casualties.

02:10 One was a tie rod and the other was a bent A-arm.

02:13 That's great.

02:14 If you've ever been riding out with a group, you know how much stuff gets broken.

02:19 And in this case, that is a great ratio.

02:21 And a bonus thing that we love about this is the demode switch.

02:25 I'm putting this as a bonus because it doesn't actually come stock with this machine.

02:29 You have to spend about $300 to get it, but it is a perfect addition if you're trying

02:34 to give this a little bit more pep.

02:37 The demode switch can switch between three different modes, either trail mode, sport

02:41 mode, or crawl mode.

02:42 I used each one at least three or four times today and it would have been a little harder

02:48 on the trail without it.

02:49 The demode switch really gives you just that much more of adjustment on your ride and that

02:53 is well worth the 300.

03:05 And now let's get into five things we hate about the 2024 Yamaha Wolverine X2.

03:11 The first thing is that the diff switch and the light switch is a little hard to see when

03:16 you're trying to change it.

03:17 That may not be a huge deal for most people, but when you're going down the trail, you

03:21 want to just glance at the switch and know which position you're in.

03:26 It could be easier just to paint it white or have it pop out a little more, but other

03:31 than that, you know, it's just something you don't want to think about.

03:35 And number two, most of the center console is a lot of unused space or wrongly used space.

03:42 In the center console, it has two little compartments that can barely fit a phone.

03:46 I don't really know what else I would want to fit in there.

03:50 There's not a lot of space there and I wouldn't feel comfortable putting really anything in

03:55 there.

03:56 Also, right above the two little compartments is just a big open space in the console that

04:00 doesn't really have anything.

04:02 I get that they're trying to cut prices and didn't want to put in a full infotainment

04:05 center, but a little bit more of used space would have been nice.

04:08 At number three, we're going to stay in the interior.

04:11 Yamaha really likes to talk about their soft touch points in the Wolverine.

04:16 If you haven't noticed, this is a small rig and the cockpit is also extremely small, so

04:21 you feel a little cramped while sitting in there.

04:24 They tried to adjust for that by giving you a little bit more visibility and it does help.

04:29 It does help with not feeling so cramped in there, but basically from the waist down,

04:34 you feel like you're in a box.

04:36 And as you get to riding, in the first 15 minutes, your leg starts brushing up against

04:41 the door and for a quick ride, it could be a little annoyance, but after about three

04:47 hours, it kind of starts to hurt.

04:49 This is also an issue with the Armax.

04:50 The Armax does the exact same thing, has the same soft touch points, and Yamaha tries to

04:56 fix it with little rubber padding on the knee on both sides and it still doesn't really

05:01 work and still is a little uncomfortable while riding.

05:04 The fourth thing we hate about the X2 is still staying in the interior.

05:08 The center console might as well not even be there.

05:11 It doesn't have any space in the middle of it.

05:13 I fit a notepad, my sunglasses, and my phone down in a little slot and I still was kind

05:19 of worried about all that.

05:20 My sunglasses getting scratched, my phone screen getting scratched.

05:23 I was not comfortable with that stuff being in the center console.

05:27 And also, the center console isn't even watertight.

05:30 That's not something you want when it's getting blasted by mud, you're going through water

05:34 crossings, it's going to get wet, and you want the stuff in there to stay dry and that's

05:39 just not going to happen with that center console.

05:41 And the fifth thing we hate about the 2024 X2 is that due to its size, due to its short

05:48 wheelbase, it's a little tippy in the gnarly parts of the trail.

05:53 You know, if you're a new rider wanting to get into side by sides and you want to buy

05:57 something that's cheaper, that won't break the bank, this is it.

06:01 But when you get on the trail and you're trying to learn and you get into some gnarly parts

06:05 of the trail, it's going to get a little scary.

06:08 You're going to lift a wheel or two, you're not going to know how the machine is going

06:11 to react, and for newer riders, that can be scary.

06:15 For veteran riders, you know, rig tips.

06:19 You know how to combat that, you know how to fix that, you know what line to take.

06:23 But for newer riders, that might not be a thing and you might not know which way your

06:28 rig is going to go when it gets up on three wheels.

06:30 Alright, that was five things we love and five things we hate, and now I'm going to

06:33 tell you who exactly this rig is for.

06:35 The 2024 X2 is for somebody who's just trying to get into side by sides.

06:40 They don't want to fully commit to a sport rig that'll cost upwards of $40,000.

06:47 They want something simple that's not too hard to control, and this is it.

06:52 This will blaze through the trails, especially on the East Coast when you have more tight

06:58 trails and you're trying to get through those trees, you're trying to have a fun time without

07:01 needing a ton of horsepower, this is your rig.

07:05 This will do everything you want on the East Coast.

07:08 Is it a little sketchy when you get into rock climbs?

07:11 Yes, but there's fun in that.
