California Man Dies After Plunging 120 Feet Near Hawaiian Waterfall.
A California man died after he fell near a waterfall in Hawaii on Friday. The Kauai Police Department identified the deceased as Mark Debarr of California. He was 66 years old.

Debarr was hiking in Kauai’s Kokee State Park on the Waipoo Falls Trail. Around 10 a.m. on Sept. 22, first responders received a call that a man had fallen at Waipoo Falls. Authorities told SFGATE they believe he accidentally slipped and fell 120 feet below the falls. Kauai police said that an autopsy is pending.

Kauai is home to Mount Waialeale, considered one of the wettest spots on Earth, and the island features stunning hikes and popular beaches. But outdoor accidents and tragedies occur regularly on Kauai.

Earlier this year, a 77-year-old California woman drowned at Poipu Beach and became the third tourist from California to die while visiting a Hawaii beach in the month of June. Last year, 46 people were rescued off the Kauai coastline. On the Kalalau Trail, signs counting the number of deaths were installed at stream crossings.
