00:00 We have been joined by Mr. Christoph Stendmell, the CEO of the Noida International Airport.

00:05 He has an important update to share with us regarding the airport.

00:09 So sir, you have got the three-letter code from IATA.

00:12 What does this signify and what does this tell us about the progress of the airport

00:16 coming up at the J-1?

00:17 It's a very big day for us that we're able to announce today that IATA has allotted the

00:23 three-letter code DXN to Noida International Airport.

00:26 And this is a sign for us of the airport, of the project maturing.

00:30 This is a sign that we're advancing towards operationalization of the airport in leaps

00:35 and bounds.

00:36 So the DXN will be our address to the air travel community worldwide, will be used in

00:40 travel bookings, will be used on tickets, will be used on baggage tags.

00:43 So it's a very exciting day for us.

00:45 There are a lot of numbers flying around as to what capacity the airport will hold.

00:51 Because in phase one, we know that it is going to be 12 million.

00:54 But there has been numbers as up to 2 to 5 million going up to.

01:00 So it has come from the implementing agency on the government side.

01:03 But what is your position and where is this number and whether you'll be able to achieve

01:07 this number in your concession period that the number is being talked about 2 to 5 million?

01:12 So as you said, we're delivering airport infrastructure for 12 million passengers.

01:17 That's the infrastructure that we'll make available by the end of next year.

01:21 We've agreed with the state government and with the union government on a master plan

01:25 that sees this airport grow over the period of our concession to accommodate at least

01:30 70 million, so 7-0 million passengers per annum.

01:36 We will deliver the additional infrastructure as the traffic grows.

01:39 So the more quickly traffic grows, the more quickly we'll be in a position to deliver

01:44 the additional capacity.

01:47 Above and beyond this master plan that we've developed, the state government, the government

01:52 of Uttar Pradesh is in the process of acquiring additional land to the north and to the south

01:58 of our concession area.

02:01 And with this additional land, we will in the long term be able to grow and provide

02:06 even more, even further airport capacity for Western UP and Delhi's national capital region.

02:12 So as I understand this additional land that is being acquired, will it be used beyond

02:17 the 40 million, 70 million capacity that you have already communicated by the phase 4?

02:23 So with further land, the airport will be able to grow far beyond the 70 million capacity

02:29 that we've designed.

02:31 My other question was related to cargo, because the cargo has been a major focal point in

02:35 the entire construction of the airport.

02:37 So would you say that because cargo is a major focal point at not many airports at that scale,

02:44 would you say that if we compare domestic passenger traffic and cargo, you will be able

02:49 to take lead earlier in the cargo section than in the passenger segment?

02:56 So we're very excited about the potential for air cargo at Noida International Airport.

03:01 We're excited about the passenger potential and we're equally excited about potential

03:04 for cargo.

03:07 We have put cargo front and center from day one and aspire to be a proper cargo airport.

03:16 So cargo is not an afterthought at Noida International Airport.

03:20 And hence we're delighted that we found AISATS as a partner to develop this multimodal cargo

03:24 hub across about 80 acres of space in the airport's eastern premises.

03:30 Do you expect this to be a leading facility when it comes on board?

03:35 This will be a state of the art facility.

03:37 I think with cargo, as with passengers, we'll make the best possible use of this opportunity

03:42 to deliver this infrastructure on the green field.

03:44 So we'll use the technology, we'll deploy the technology that's available.

03:49 We'll tailor the infrastructure and the product, the processes to the requirements of the market

03:53 today to help bring down the cost of logistics to increase efficiency in the logistics supply

03:59 chain all across North India.

04:02 Last question to you, so the strategy of twin airports is being adopted in many states.

04:07 We have seen it in Goa.

04:09 Now the Noida International Airport will work as a twin airport with IGI.

04:13 So do you think that because there has been talks of forming a transit hub around Delhi,

04:21 IGI is already being looked at it?

04:23 So do you think that competition is inevitable with IGI airport, even though there is expectations

04:30 of growing passenger traffic within the domestic market?

04:33 I think the case study that you've mentioned, Goa, is an incredibly interesting one.

04:39 And I think it speaks to the fact that currently the demand for more air travel in India is

04:45 massive.

04:46 And there's a massive requirement for additional capacity to accommodate this demand, to allow

04:51 more and more people to fly.

04:52 So there's a need for further airports.

04:54 There's a need for additional aircraft.

04:56 There's a need for additional infrastructure, cargo maintenance, repair and overhaul to

05:01 serve this traffic.

05:02 If you look at Goa, the new airport in Goa has been operational for about nine months

05:07 now since the beginning of the year.

05:10 And overall in Goa, the traffic to and from Goa has increased by about 50%.

05:15 That answers my question.
