00:00 A new dawn for Labor after nearly a decade of Dan dominance.
00:07 It's not lost on me that I am only the second woman to lead this state and that also comes
00:13 with some emotion.
00:14 The new responsibility weighing heavily on Jacinta Allen.
00:18 24 years ago, almost to the day when I walked into this place as a much younger woman from
00:25 regional Victoria, I never expected to have this length of service.
00:31 But even though she began the day as the front runner for the top job.
00:34 I'm going to respect my colleagues.
00:36 Jacinta Allen.
00:38 Easy.
00:39 Jacinta Allen will be the next Premier of this state.
00:42 She faced her first challenge before she was even sworn in.
00:46 Her now deputy, Ben Carroll, threatened a tilt for the Labor leadership, but after nearly
00:51 two hours of negotiations, a compromise was reached.
00:55 The new Premier is Jacinta Allen.
00:57 The deputy Premier is Ben Carroll.
00:59 The party is trying to project a united front.
01:03 To be her deputy Premier is a real honour.
01:05 I couldn't think of a better job in the world to support Jacinta.
01:09 The outgoing Premier passing the baton to the new leadership team.
01:13 I couldn't be more happy that my colleagues have unanimously endorsed and chosen Jacinta
01:18 Allen to be the 49th Premier.
01:20 I will, yes, look forward to remaining in touch with Daniel.
01:23 But Jacinta Allen says she'll bring her own approach to leading the state.
01:27 Over time, the Victorian community will see me bring a very different style.
01:32 You'll also see someone who listens and someone who's inclusive.
01:37 The Premier from the regions inherits hundreds of billions of dollars in debt, the fallout
01:41 from the cancelled Commonwealth Games and integrity investigations.
01:45 But she says her biggest challenge will be implementing the government's housing reforms.
01:50 Fantastic.
01:51 It's about time we got a girl and I'm glad that Dan's gone.
01:56 Very happy that she's a Bendigo girl.
01:58 Less interruptions to those trains would be fantastic.
02:00 There's a lot to do and I absolutely intend to hit the ground running.
02:04 And she'll have to run fast to match Daniel Andrews.
02:07 (Applause.)
