00:00 Following the G20 summit in the national capital, the city has witnessed incidents of theft
00:07 and damage to the items that were installed across various parts for beautification in
00:13 light of the two-day mega event.
00:16 Police said that they have received several complaints of missing flowerpots, rubber nozzles,
00:22 wires and broken lights in Delhi, especially in the New Delhi district area.
00:28 The G20 summit was held from September 7-10 with multiple agencies working round the clock
00:35 to ensure a smooth experience for the 40 heads of state and several dignitaries.
00:41 As part of the beautification of Bhadat, Mandapam and Lutyens Delhi, the Public Workers Department
00:47 (PWD) and New Delhi Municipal Council and AMC installed statues, fountains, lights and
00:55 other expensive equipment.
00:57 Sources told The Indian Express that they found that several decorative pots which were
01:03 lined up at the ITO and Rajghat have been stolen since the G20 summit.
01:10 Adding that while a few pots were stolen, others were damaged or found lying flat with
01:16 flowers and mud on the road.
01:18 The officers said that they have received information that several lights near the Bahadur
01:23 Shah Zafar Marg and Sarai Kale Khan flyover have been damaged.
01:28 We don't know if this was intentional or accidental.
01:33 Several pots have been removed by PWD authorities from the New Delhi-South Delhi stretch and
01:39 from the Sarai Kale Khan-Noida stretch, the officers said.
01:43 A few streets lights and decorative lights have been stolen and/or damaged near Lodhi
01:49 Road, Mathura Road and Ring Road, police said.
01:52 Officers said nozzles have also gone missing from Pragati Maidan.
01:57 In North Delhi, officers said, the street vendors and encroachments were removed ahead
02:02 of the G20 summit have set up camp again.
02:06 Such cases have been noted near Rajghat, India Gate, Turpan Gate, Kashmiri Gate and the Red
02:12 Fort.
02:13 However, despite these reports, no FIRs were registered as the stolen items were of relatively
02:19 low value, said a senior police officer.
02:23 In addition to these incidents, the Delhi Traffic Police raised concerns about overcrowding
02:29 near fountains located near India Gate, CP and other New Delhi areas.
02:34 This not only affects the vehicular movement but also leads to damage, destruction of the
02:39 property as people huddle at the same spot and litter, said a traffic police official.
02:44 While the PWD had previously changed the timings of fountain operations from 24 hours to two
02:50 shifts i.e. from 7 am to 1 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm, police found people gathering around
02:56 key stretches during evening and night hours.
