00:00 Unlike in Cavite and Batangas, smoke from the volcano is not from the air.
00:09 Because it is also dangerous to health, experts have tips.
00:13 Tina Panganiban Perez and Marisol Abdurrahman were able to find out.
00:18 Metro Manila woke up to a new discovery.
00:26 But sometimes, there is a smell and a glimpse in the eyes.
00:29 It is not just smoke, but smoke and smoke.
00:33 Especially, this is a glimpse from Sumulong Highway
00:36 that overlooked Metro Manila at 6.30 in the morning.
00:40 The houses were not seen.
00:42 And until yesterday, the light of the street lamp from Antipolo City was almost not seen.
00:47 We are here at the view deck of an establishment in Antipolo City.
00:51 Before, when you were in my place, you can see the whole Metro Manila.
00:56 But now, this is what you can see.
00:59 It is not a new smog, especially after the rain.
01:05 But what I noticed was different when I talked to this person.
01:08 This morning, the Metro Manila was a bit foggy.
01:14 It was like a collusion.
01:15 Ortigas, Makati, Ayala, the buildings, you can see them here in the morning.
01:22 But now, you can't see anything.
01:25 Now, you can't see anything because it's just after the rain.
01:29 The thermal inversion, normally, as you go towards the upper part of the atmosphere, becomes colder.
01:38 So, it's the opposite when you have thermal inversion.
01:42 It's colder at the bottom and hotter at the top.
01:46 So, our pollutants and other gases, the smoke emitted by the cars,
01:54 it would stay on the lower level only.
01:56 Because of the smog, classes suspended in almost the whole Metro Manila.
02:04 DENR also increased the height and alert in Manila as a warning to the accumulated smoke, especially rush hour.
02:12 DENR EMB continues to monitor the air quality, which changes depending on the time and place.
02:19 According to a health expert, one of our protections against smog is the mask.
02:25 And not only should we wear a mask, but also a mask that can absorb small particles.
02:32 The N95 masks, these harmful irritants in the air, they're so fine that it can't penetrate readily.
02:43 If you inhale, it can be really harmful in terms of our breathing.
02:49 So, we advise to use N95 over the cloth mask or what we call the surgical mask.
02:55 DOH also added that it's not allowed to leave the house,
02:59 close windows and doors, cover your nose and mouth, and drink a lot of water.
03:05 But of course, there are things that cannot be avoided when going out.
03:09 Why are you wearing a mask?
03:11 Because of the smog.
03:13 It's hard to avoid the disease.
03:14 Just be strong, ma'am.
03:16 Because we already know that it's really polluted.
03:21 Just be strong.
03:24 The Office of Civil Defense also added that you should go to the doctor if there's a medical emergency
03:30 and monitor and follow the news and the government's advice.
03:34 For GMA Integrated News, I'm Tina Panganiban Perez.
