00:00 Bruins Beat is brought to you by FanDuel, the exclusive wagering partner of the CLNS
00:04 Media Network.
00:07 And welcome into the Bruins Beat.
00:08 It's September 19th.
00:10 I'm Evan Marinovsky.
00:11 That's Connor Ryan.
00:12 We're presented by our good friends over at FanDuel.
00:14 Connor, what is up?
00:17 Evan, I'm doing well.
00:18 How are you doing?
00:19 Doing great.
00:20 I am doing great.
00:21 And we have no shortage of things to talk about today because a little piece of Bruins
00:25 news dropped on Monday.
00:28 We were waiting kind of all off season to see who would be the final Bruins assistant
00:34 coach.
00:35 It comes out on Monday that it's John McClain.
00:38 Local guy from Wakefield.
00:40 Played at BC.
00:41 Long time head coach at Malden Catholic.
00:45 Recent head coach at Austin Prep.
00:46 Worked with the Bruins last year in a skills and development role.
00:50 He now gets promoted to the bench.
00:52 So good for him.
00:53 And I think it also shows that they have a guy on staff who his focus is going to be
00:57 development.
00:58 And I think if they're going to be having a lot of younger guys come in the lineup,
01:03 not a bad hire.
01:04 What do you think?
01:05 Yeah.
01:06 Yeah.
01:07 It's going to be essential whether you look at not just the influx of you hope younger
01:10 players, but you're looking at quite a few guys on this roster.
01:13 You've already talked about them countless times, but you know, a guy like Frederick,
01:16 a guy like Loco, guys who are already on this roster that they want to take another step
01:20 forward and emphasizing that development, that skating and skills is going to be essential
01:25 to it.
01:26 It felt like there was going to be someone like a, like a McLean, you know, like a Kim
01:32 Brandville, those kinds of coaches in terms of guys that are trying to unlock another
01:36 gear out of these players.
01:38 Montgomery already more or less said that Joe Sacco is shifting his role to be more
01:43 focused on the defense.
01:44 Chris Kelly's looking at power play this year.
01:48 So a few roles getting shifted around now that John Gruden left during the off season
01:52 to go coach the, uh, Colonel Marley's in the Napoli system.
01:56 But, um, yeah, it makes plenty of sense for you.
01:59 Look at just how I think the coaching roles have shifted what the Bruins need as they
02:04 kind of revamp and retool this roster.
02:08 You know, focusing on a guy like McLean makes, uh, makes plenty of sense.
02:11 Great beard as well.
02:13 Great beard.
02:14 Uh, and you know, it's funny, like Bob Vicenza is goalie Bob.
02:16 He's like the goalie whisperer.
02:18 Maybe John will be like a skater.
02:20 John, you know, he's like the skating whisperer or the skill whisperer.
02:25 Trent Frederick's going to start dangling through guys and go on top shelf every shift.
02:29 It's like, oh, John McLean at it again with Trent Frederick.
02:33 I've only seen about two or three diehard, uh, shifts so far.
02:38 So good people are keeping that contained right now.
02:41 So as they should, as they should.
02:44 Uh, but the big news over the weekend, and this was very controversial, but he had a
02:48 different take on this, uh, but the New Jersey's I know, right.
02:51 The New Jersey's were released and the Logan fashion show.
02:55 How was that?
02:56 How was the environment there?
02:57 They wouldn't let you fly the plane.
02:59 Unfortunately, I thought that was kind of disappointing.
03:01 I thought, you know, just a quick little loop around, even though I got, I don't have to
03:04 take off, like just put me on like the Ted Williams tunnel, like do a little, just drive,
03:09 drive through there and go through South a little bit, show off.
03:12 Like you got the jet blue plane.
03:14 Didn't work out.
03:15 Yes.
03:16 The wings scraping the front of like the Broadway, that wouldn't be the worst thing.
03:19 Yeah, exactly.
03:20 Yeah, exactly.
03:21 So, you know, uh, that was just a point and couldn't fly the plane.
03:25 But, um, first fashion I've ever been to, uh, I tried to like, uh, get my, like my locked
03:31 in composure, like as a New York fashion week.
03:33 And I just see a bunch of like Bruins, uh, sweaters and all that stuff walking up and
03:37 down the runway.
03:38 I don't know what to do.
03:39 I felt like I was like Ricky Bobby.
03:40 I'm like, do I, do I like have like a look like this?
03:43 What do I do?
03:45 Um, but yeah, it was, it was entertaining, interesting.
03:49 Uh, it'll be the first of I think many very different events this year for the centennial
03:53 season.
03:54 But of course I think what everyone focuses on, not on the merch, on the jerseys.
03:58 Um, uh, they're interesting.
04:00 Like I think what I usually do is I think they're pretty solid.
04:04 I think again, you can only do so much with them.
04:06 I know a lot of the discourse I think it revolves around the striping, especially on the sleeves.
04:11 Um, but how I always view it, even if you're on the fence about jerseys and sweaters, which
04:17 of their on the ice in their full, the full garb, I feel like that's when you really kind
04:21 of see, see how it pops out there.
04:23 So one thing to like wear as you're like, you know, uh, walking through the concourse
04:27 at the garden or whatever, we'd see it on the ice with all the full gear on.
04:31 I think that's how you can best kind of judge, uh, judge it out there.
04:34 Yeah.
04:35 And the aesthetic of the new logo on the ice and things like that.
04:38 I agree that I think there are too many stripes on the arms of the home and the ways.
04:42 I think that's my one point of contention with them.
04:45 Some people were like the gold doesn't pop the way it should.
04:48 And it's like, I think that's just a lighting thing.
04:50 I'm curious to sort of see that in person, uh, on the ice, how that looks on TV.
04:56 Um, but the stripes, I don't know, that was my one area where it's like, I think you could
05:00 have went to three stripes instead of six.
05:02 I think that, you know, I don't know.
05:04 That's my take on it.
05:05 I mean, I believe the, the, the stripes at six in an honor of their Stanley cup championship.
05:11 So I understand why they did it.
05:12 Okay.
05:13 Well, I get that, but, but you could do it another way.
05:15 It's like, I liked how the, um, the, the alternate Jersey, which I really, I'm really excited
05:20 to see how that looks.
05:21 Once you have the, the, the helmet, the gloves, the pants, all that stuff with it, how it
05:26 has like the, uh, six championship years, uh, inside the collar.
05:30 And it's in like the Massachusetts sign kind of format and how they have it.
05:34 So you can, you incorporate the six Stanley cups without having like these big, uh, big
05:40 blocks more or less on your arms.
05:42 But again, I digress.
05:43 We'll see how it is once we get on the ice.
05:45 Also Connor, we're not, we're not math guys, but if you put three stripes on one arm and
05:50 three stripes on the other, you get to six.
05:54 I think that could work too.
05:55 Three plus three, three times two.
05:57 I think that's six.
05:59 So maybe that could also, I think that could also potentially do it with my math cap on
06:04 the math cap is on.
06:07 Um, but I like them.
06:09 I do.
06:10 I don't, I don't have any terrible problems.
06:12 I mean, the stripes is something I think people, we get all, we can all get over.
06:16 Um, I liked the, the, the logo they went with.
06:19 I think they like, they went the right direction on them.
06:22 Um, you know, I think the Bruins are one of those cool teams where they're not like the
06:27 red wings where like, there's not much you can do, but they're not like the coyotes or
06:32 the Panthers who are like, you know, these eccentric small market teams, like you can
06:36 be creative with the Bruins without stepping so far outside the box.
06:40 Like you're, you know, you can, you can be creative without just completely like blowing
06:45 everything up.
06:46 The colors are the same, everything like that.
06:48 I also think like they'd had those home and aways for since oh seven, oh seven, oh eight
06:54 was their first year with those.
06:55 Like I think that, you know, it's been a long time.
06:59 It's a new era.
07:00 It's kind of like what the Patriots have done.
07:02 You know, the Brady era had their jerseys and then Brady leaves, you get new jerseys.
07:06 I think, you know, you look at Bergeron, Chara, Creechie, Rask, they're all gone.
07:11 It's a new era, you know?
07:13 Now the Patriots, I hate their home jerseys.
07:17 So those I'm not a fan of.
07:19 I like the, obviously the red ones.
07:20 Oh yeah.
07:21 I was going to say, I thought you were talking about the actual, yeah.
07:23 No, no.
07:24 I mean the blue ones, the blues they wear.
07:26 I don't like those.
07:27 Those are, you know, not up to par, but these I like.
07:31 I like these, you know.
07:33 Do you know if these are going to stick past this year?
07:36 Have they said anything about that yet?
07:38 I don't believe so.
07:39 I think especially the home and away are just going to be for this year.
07:42 Maybe the alternative, if they're really popular, maybe they throw them in the rotation, kind
07:47 of like how the big gold bee, one we've seen, that one I think was only supposed to be a
07:51 year or two and it stuck around as well.
07:54 But so yeah, I, but I believe the regular home and away for this year are just this
07:59 year.
08:00 It's funny.
08:01 Cause I was saying this to someone this weekend, they, the Bruins have had a lot of really
08:05 good sweaters over the last four or five years that you'd love to see get like, come back.
08:12 You know, you look at like the poo bear last year, you look at the yellow jerseys they
08:16 wore in the COVID year that they wore at Lake Tahoe, the winter classic jersey, like five
08:21 games.
08:22 Yeah.
08:23 They barely wore them.
08:24 They were so good.
08:25 I loved those.
08:26 Those were awesome.
08:27 And if they've had a lot of banger jerseys, like, and I would love to see some of those
08:31 kind of come back at different times, you know, in the future and future years, obviously
08:35 this year is the 100th year you're using what you're using.
08:40 But I just think that they've been fortunate.
08:42 I think the Bruins are one of the fortunate teams that, you know, they, the, the colors
08:47 are good.
08:49 The jerseys work.
08:50 The designs have been good over the years, the logos, all that.
08:54 And I like the innovation on these.
08:56 So and the alternates, by the way, are awesome.
08:57 I love those.
08:58 Those are, those are great.
08:59 So I'm excited to see what they look like this year.
09:01 I think everyone's excited to see those on the ice and, and all that stuff.
09:06 But another thing that was happening this weekend was the prospects challenge up in
09:09 Buffalo Bruins went one and two through the three games.
09:13 And it's funny, I was reading Mark Diver this past weekend, who's a, you know, knows everything
09:18 about the Providence Bruins inside and out.
09:22 But he had a story on Matthew Poitras and, you know, Poitras kind of, you know, his,
09:28 his development and how he was looking and obviously the Bruins staff was very high on
09:31 him Lang and Bruner, Evan Gold, the whole, the whole crew there.
09:36 And it's interesting, like we always say, you know, they're, they're barren at center
09:41 in the, in the prospect system and they kind of are, but it feels like he could actually
09:47 be someone that not this year, making the team does not make, I don't think he's making
09:50 the team this year, not ready yet, but down the road could be a guy that they look towards
09:55 as maybe this is a top six center.
09:57 What do you think?
09:58 Yeah, I think he's probably, when you look at the team's need at center, you look at
10:03 his playmaking capabilities, his production, especially last year in the OHL, he's arguably
10:08 probably the most intriguing guy you have in the system.
10:10 I mean, Laura, if he hits not a lot of six, four guys that can move the puck like he can.
10:16 So he's right up there as well.
10:17 But I think when you look at just how desperately this team needs a center to pop, and it's
10:21 not to say they need them to, again, don't need them to be version on a crate.
10:25 She'd love for that to be the case, but if he is a capable guy that in the NHL level
10:30 can give you a 45, 50 points and build into a role there, there's a lot to like about
10:35 what he brings.
10:36 And again, he's not as dynamic, you know, he's not as good of a skater as a guy like
10:40 Beecher is not maybe as dynamic offensively as a Lysell, but you listen to all these different,
10:46 you know, player development coordinators, coaches, GMs, you know, Langenbrenner, McQuaid,
10:52 everyone, they all mentioned, you know, the skills that he has, it's, it's tough to really,
10:56 you know, learn.
10:58 It's all like his on ice IQ processing ability.
11:03 You know, the way he reads plays, how he gets inside ice.
11:07 And I think that's what sticks out about him.
11:08 I remember watching him in development camp.
11:10 The one that stuck out is the passings are obviously you don't have 70, 79 assists in
11:15 61 games, you know, HL without having that flaming table capabilities.
11:20 But what stood out to me during dev camp is that instead of, you know, for a guy with
11:24 that kind of playmaking style, you'd imagine he'd be like on the outside looking for seams.
11:29 He would always, you know, drive towards the net, you know, collapse the defense.
11:34 And then he would have that wherewithal in that split second to then be a little backhand
11:38 dish, you know, for an easy chance, what have you like that's something I think you really
11:41 can't teach.
11:42 That's just, you know, a naturally aggressive and aggressive playmaker, which seems like
11:47 it's a weird way to kind of phrase it, but he has that skill set and that need to make
11:52 plays happen as opposed to letting the play develop and capitalizing.
11:55 He makes it himself.
11:57 So again, as you said, I think the Bruins are going to give him a good look this this
12:02 camp just because he's in that really unfortunate kind of spot where do you have the NHL, the
12:07 OHL you, you know, if he had free reign, it would make so much sense to just throw him
12:12 into the AHL and, you know, kind of learn on the fly there.
12:16 It goes back to the OHL.
12:17 Of course, it's more games, more reps.
12:19 He's probably going to put up a crap ton of points.
12:21 A lot of stats this winter.
12:23 Yeah.
12:24 So, you know, he's still going to develop in that regard, but you probably want to push
12:28 in and get more of that development acceleration with a year in Providence.
12:32 It's not going to be the case.
12:34 So I'm sure they're going to give him a good look to see again.
12:37 They probably don't think he's ready quite yet, but if he's all sudden get into the preseason
12:42 games and he's lighting up and you have to give him a long look, even if he doesn't make
12:45 the team, which still seems really unlikely, it'd be a great learning experience for him
12:49 just to get those reps anyway.
12:51 So he's definitely a guy I think you have to watch during camp just because he's again,
12:56 you look at how barren the system has been for top six centers or even just capable NHL
13:01 centers over the last decade.
13:04 Right.
13:05 Like it's really a lot of them.
13:08 He at least offers a lot of promise in terms of, you know, what the production, but also
13:12 just the way he plays, like the way he processes the game.
13:14 It's something that's really, really hard to teach.
13:16 It makes them a really unique prospect in that regard.
13:18 All right.
13:19 Quick second here to tell you about our good friends over at FanDuel.

14:00 FanDuel, the official partner of the NFL.
14:06 Yeah, I just think the hockey sense element is what intrigues me most.
14:10 You just look at, you know, to be a top six player in the NHL, the hockey sense has to
14:14 be there.
14:15 The hockey sense is a must.
14:16 I think that's one of the biggest things that separates top six guys from bottom six guys,
14:21 that hockey sense.
14:22 I think he seems to have it from everything that's been said about him.
14:26 And as you said, I mean, if he really lights it up in the preseason this year, my guess
14:30 is he still goes back to the OHL.
14:32 But think of the hype that's going to be around him next training camp.
14:36 And suddenly, if you have this confidence that he can be a top six center, can you spend
14:41 money in other places?
14:42 I still think you need to go out and trade for a number one center or get one.
14:46 But in the, you know, break glass in case of emergency that you don't do that.
14:50 Again, I'm getting so far ahead of things so far.
14:54 Training hasn't even started, but I do think it's important to think about, you know, could
14:58 could this save you down the road if you could wheel out, you know, Poitras and Zaka in future
15:04 years?
15:05 But again, got to have a good training camp first.
15:07 Got to have a lot of good things, you know, before that.
15:10 Speaking of training camp.
15:14 Starts this week.
15:15 It's big time.
15:16 It's like Christmas.
15:17 It's what it is.
15:18 Just it's all coming back.
15:20 Training camp, though, not the biggest story in the NHL right now.
15:22 That'd be Mike Babcock.
15:23 The biggest story in the NHL right now.
15:26 So I you know, it's funny.
15:27 I was trying to find a way to tweet out the vid, the clip of the Dylans Burger skit from
15:33 I think you should leave.
15:34 And he's like, give me that.
15:35 Give me that.
15:36 You know, I'm just joking.
15:37 I'm joking.
15:38 Well, you know, like I'm thinking that's Babcock with.
15:40 Do you see like the quote that Jarmo Kekulainan said, like, oh, yes, for my phone, too.
15:44 I didn't you know, I guess I could see how that's man.
15:47 Like what is obsessive, taking people's phones.
15:50 Give me your phone.
15:52 Let me see.
15:53 I need to see what's he must have been a menace when Doodle Jump was a thing.
15:56 You're just taking everyone's phone.
15:57 You let me I'm going to be your score in Temple Run.
16:00 Yes, exactly.
16:01 Give me that.
16:02 No, he was sabotaging.
16:03 He didn't intentionally run you off the cliff every time.
16:06 If you if you if you didn't back check in the game, there you go.
16:10 You're done.
16:11 Well, it's like when I was when I was younger, I was really little.
16:14 My sister used to play Minecraft on her iPad.
16:17 So one day I went into her.
16:18 I just took her iPad one day and I burned like everything she created in Minecraft,
16:22 just lit it on fire.
16:23 It's my area.
16:24 They say she I was like, you know, 10 years old.
16:28 I was a dick.
16:29 And you know, a couple of days later, she like, you know, and so I lost privileges of
16:36 my own phone and my iPad for quite a while because of it.
16:39 So I'm worried that it was pretty funny.
16:43 I might have been worth it.
16:46 But again, I just I'm stunned at the idea.
16:48 I mean, imagine like going in for a job interview and I say, you know, to the guy hiring you,
16:52 hey, can I like just check your phone real quick?
16:54 I just want to go through your photos.
16:56 I want to go to Twitter.
16:57 I'm going to throw it on the TV, too.
16:59 That was the best part.
17:00 I see what you take.
17:02 Talk for you, pages.
17:03 You know, yes, exactly.
17:04 What do you what kind of videos are you liking?
17:08 Yeah, that's a baffling situation that keeps getting better by the day.
17:14 I find again, I find it hilarious that Columbus with a roster with a lot of very high, highly
17:20 talented young players, but with Mike Babcock as the as the choice there.
17:24 So, yeah, another team that just can't get out of its own way, which is always fun.
17:30 But yeah, training camp coming up.
17:32 We went we had to crack a few jokes about the Babcock situation.
17:36 We did not do it.
17:38 So biggest questions, things that are on our mind entering training camp and we'll you
17:44 know, we'll have more in-depth training camp stuff, obviously, throughout training camp.
17:49 But I think I'll start with a question.
17:51 And it's one we've talked about quite a bit.
17:53 And it's can Charlie Coyle be a top six center?
17:56 You know, I at the start of the offseason when birds were on, when it felt like they
18:00 were birds around and great, you were retiring.
18:02 I kept kind of thinking, oh, I don't know about Coyle.
18:06 You know, he's never really stuck up there.
18:08 The production's never been there.
18:10 But the more I've thought about it, the more I've looked at point totals and what they
18:13 would need out of him and playing him with the Brusque and Marchand for full time.
18:18 I think he can be I don't think he's going to be like the world on fire.
18:21 But my guess is he'll be a formidable number two center.
18:25 What do you think?
18:26 Yeah, I think it's all going to we talked about this even with with Zaka as well.
18:30 It's gonna come down to I think they're both capable in terms of what the what the task
18:35 and what the ass is going to be from Jim Montgomery in terms of what those roles are.
18:40 But I think a lot of it's going to fall on the players around them, the guys on the wing
18:44 to really drive play there.
18:46 And you know, whether it's Coyle with Marchand and the Brusque who, you know, Montgomery
18:52 has high expectations for in terms of driving play there.
18:55 You know, Pasternak as your top offensive conduit.
18:59 If you're looking for a way to get Zaka settled in there, putting a 60 goal score next to
19:03 him the whole year probably helps him out quite a bit.
19:05 I think it'll be a couple of nice primary assists off of just feeding it to him on a
19:09 one time or chance.
19:10 So but I think for Coyle, yeah, he's a guy that I think took steps last year in terms
19:17 of really rounding out his game and being a very solid two way player.
19:20 He was arguably like their defensive MVP up front in terms of the amount of ozone starts
19:26 that weren't afforded to him that made it easier for guys like Bergeron and Creechie
19:30 to get easier starts there on the ice.
19:33 So if Coyle can keep that up and he's got a higher or stronger supporting cast with
19:39 a guy like Marchand who's produced with whoever you put out there.
19:42 DeBrusque, who I think took a big step forward last year.
19:45 And he's a guy that, you know, if he's playing his game, he's going to generate great chances.
19:50 Again, it's for him.
19:53 He fitted very well with Marchand and Bergeron.
19:55 But when DeBrusque is on his game, he's hovering around great A.I.s.
19:58 He's making things happen.
19:59 If you have a guy like Coyle who also likes to possess the puck, you should be able to
20:03 generate chances there as well.
20:05 So again, I think both Coyle and Zaka have the means to step into.
20:09 I don't even think that's like you have to view it as the role.
20:12 It's just like the added minutes, the more featured spot there.
20:16 But I think it's all going to then come down to whether these guys that are going to be
20:19 tasked with really driving play offensively can kind of bring them along as well.
20:25 Yeah, I think that's huge.
20:27 And I think it's going to be sort of the sum of the parts type thing with him.
20:32 And the other thing is just consistency.
20:34 People kind of point back to that Florida series when Coyle and Zaka were really strong
20:39 one and two down the middle.
20:40 Can you do it over 82 games?
20:43 They're going to be stretches of the season where the production is down.
20:47 My guess is it's going to there's going to be some ups and downs to start.
20:51 I think you'll have Coyle put up five points in three games, and then you might have two
20:56 in six or seven or something like that.
20:59 But I think what Coyle brings on the defensive end is just so important.
21:04 And I think, you know, shouldn't be overlooked.
21:06 I think, you know, when you're evaluating Coyle, I think you also have to judge if he's
21:09 getting, which we presume will be the case, a lot of D zone starts and tough matchups
21:14 like the production is not going to be as big as people would hope.
21:19 But if you're preventing other teams from scoring, it's not bad either.
21:24 I kind of like view it almost like was was Coyle and Zaka.
21:29 It's almost like the Dolphins with two.
21:31 I think like two is a pretty solid quarterback, but also the Dolphins done a good job of surrounding
21:36 him with elite talent that pulls them along and drags them kind of into this elevated
21:41 role.
21:42 And it's not like an indictment saying like to a suction, these guys aren't capable guys.
21:46 But when you don't have a guy like a bird run or a crazy, it falls on, I think you surrounding
21:51 these guys who are stepping into greater roles, have more talent around them that can make
21:56 it easier for them as they step into more minutes, more responsibilities.
22:00 And I think if guys like Pasternak and Marchand and the breast can deliver, it makes life
22:05 so much easier for those guys who already have a big ask in front of them going into
22:10 this season.
22:11 It'd be cool if the football team from here decided to take a great on that.
22:15 Yeah, exactly.
22:16 That'd be really nice.
22:19 What's the question that you have going into training camp?
22:21 Yeah, I think it's going to be just what that bottom six is going to look like.
22:25 I don't think you really have to worry too much about the decor in terms of how it's
22:28 made up or the gold tending or anything like that, barring a steep drop in production or
22:34 anything like that injuries.
22:35 But that bottom six could not tell you what I think that line is going to look like.
22:40 I couldn't even tell you what it's going to look like in the first day of camp when we
22:43 see those guys out there on the ice.
22:44 Right.
22:45 It's going to be fascinating to see how they not just the personnel, but you have so many
22:50 guys with different skill sets, right?
22:51 Like Brent Frederick is different from Loco.
22:54 He's different from blue cheese.
22:56 You're different from geeky, you know, to high end and chase on all those guys have
23:00 such different skill sets.
23:01 Not even looking at their own thing camp.
23:04 Yeah, exactly.
23:05 And not even counting the younger players.
23:07 Right.
23:08 Like we obviously know the guys who could be fighting for fourth line spots like a McLaughlin
23:12 or Beecher or steam, but could a guy like Mark you off hit, right?
23:16 Could a guy like my cell really take a huge step forward?
23:18 Like there's so many different twists and turns that, you know, we could probably go
23:22 through during this training camp in terms of finding the best, you know, six men unit
23:28 there on that bottom six grouping.
23:29 So I think it's going to be fascinating to see just how that continues to develop all
23:33 year.
23:34 You have to imagine that the veterans, some of the incumbents have the early advantage
23:39 there, but we'll see.
23:40 And again, we've talked about it before, but you told me going into last year's training
23:44 camp, the local is going to make team out of camp.
23:46 I've been like, no, no, no, no, no.
23:48 I don't know about that.
23:49 Proved a lot of people were wrong and then made the most of it.
23:51 We doubt there.
23:52 So we'll see if I know it's going to hit in that regard.
23:54 Yeah.
23:55 I mean, the only like.
23:58 Lou, she's going to be somewhere in there on that fourth.
24:00 I have two feels like, I mean, they have them everywhere.
24:03 They have them at the the Jersey fashion show.
24:06 They had with the Patriots game on, which I think that was just his own thing.
24:09 I don't think he was.
24:10 I don't think the birds like Milan, you have to go to a July.
24:13 I think Lucci 100 percent want to go to July.
24:15 I think he just loves I think he'll throw out the first pitch.
24:18 I think he's just happy to be back.
24:21 It's funny.
24:22 Someone said to me the other night they were like, I don't care if he's the worst player
24:24 in the NHL.
24:25 I'm just happy he's a Bruin again.
24:26 And it's like, you know what?
24:27 I can get behind that sentiment like that.
24:29 You know, I'm not saying he is the worst.
24:31 I'm just saying they were saying even if he was the worst, just having him back feels
24:36 right.
24:37 I'll go off the board with another question.
24:40 How does Brad Marsh and look?
24:42 Because, again, Marcia was coming off double hip surgery last year.
24:45 Obviously, didn't start until about November.
24:49 Came back early.
24:50 But, you know, what's he looking like?
24:52 How's he fitting with coil?
24:54 How's he doing post Patrice?
24:58 You know, is he he's getting older like, you know, I think that's these are valid things
25:02 you have to watch with him.
25:04 Obviously, we expect him to produce.
25:05 We expect him to be the captain, most likely all those things.
25:10 But how's he on the ice?
25:11 You know, is he a step behind?
25:13 Is he with everybody?
25:14 Is he faster?
25:15 Like, so I'm very curious to see what he looks like and sort of, you know, again, it's gonna
25:20 be hard to tell from training camp.
25:21 It's kind of something you might get more of in the first five, 10 games of the actual
25:26 season.
25:27 But curious to see how he looks, how he's feeling and how he's doing.
25:31 So that would be one.
25:33 Do you have any others that are burning?
25:35 Yeah, I'd say.
25:36 I have none.
25:37 I have none on D. Yeah, I my only viewpoint is just how when you look at just how different,
25:43 you know, the strengths of this team are.
25:46 Obviously, it all runs through the defense and the goaltending.
25:48 But how kind of like Jim Montgomery changes his scheme around?
25:51 Maybe we looked at last year at how much of a luxury you had.
25:54 Not only the scoring depth up front, but you had, you know, such a layered team structure
26:00 where you could have guys like Lindholm and McElwain jump up in the play and impact the
26:05 game in that regard.
26:06 Like Montgomery's got to change things around a little bit, not just say that his defense
26:10 doesn't have the capabilities of doing that, but you just don't have that maybe extra layer
26:14 in front that can kill plays before they get into the D zone.
26:17 So I think him and his coaching staff maybe shift things around.
26:20 You know, you can only kind of make do with whatever the roster has out there.
26:24 And you just don't have the amount of scoring depth or the amount of guys like a bircher
26:29 on who can be so responsible in their own end that you may have to make some sacrifices,
26:33 maybe be less aggressive in order to kind of be more of a stingy defense first team,
26:39 which again, that's going to be the biggest key.
26:41 If you want to view how this team gets back to playoffs, it's can you shut down opposing
26:45 teams, grind things out and, you know, find avenues to generate offense.
26:49 But it's going to, I think, rely, you know, depend on Montgomery and his team kind of
26:54 tinkering things a little bit of how they approach, especially offensively and how they
26:58 protect their own net.
26:59 Yep.
27:00 I completely agree with you.
27:01 You got to switch things up a bit.
27:02 And I'm curious to see how that is also Montgomery without Persia run.
27:06 How many times last year did we hear, you know, oh, you know, it's like having another
27:09 coach in the locker room.
27:10 That coach is gone.
27:11 I'm Patrice Bergeron.
27:12 So I'm curious to see how Montgomery is.
27:15 I'm also curious to see, and this isn't a training camp thing.
27:17 It's a regular season thing.
27:18 But how does this team look when they hit the skids?
27:22 How do they look when they slump?
27:23 Because it's going to happen.
27:25 Never happened last year.
27:26 Never seemed to lose many games in a row last year.
27:30 But they will this year because they're a they're a hockey team.
27:33 Every team does.
27:34 Last year was sort of an outlier.
27:35 So curious to see that.
27:37 One other question I have regarding training camp, Fabian Lysell.
27:40 What does he look like?
27:41 How is he doing?
27:42 How is he developing?
27:44 Does he put up a fight to make this team?
27:46 Because I think if he if he is lighten it up in training camp in the preseason, I don't
27:52 know.
27:53 Maybe he'll put something there and they feel that, hey, he'd be a good third line
27:56 right winger.
27:57 Or, you know, maybe he makes things interesting and, you know, kicks Van Riemseke out of the
28:02 top six or something.
28:03 I'm not saying it's going to happen.
28:04 Me and you are both on the same page on.
28:06 I think more seasoning for him would be a really good thing.
28:09 But if he just lights the world on fire in training camp, you know, what how does that
28:13 sort of change their outlook on him?
28:17 So again, that'd be like my my prospect that I want to kind of keep an eye on.
28:20 I mean, I would bet you point to us already.
28:23 But Lysell obviously is the interesting one.
28:25 And we've we talked bottom six with Beecher and stuff like that.
28:27 So we'll have more with training camp in the future.
28:30 And one place is I know there's gonna be a lot of training camp content from is with
28:34 you over at Boston dot com and the Boston Globe.
28:36 Yeah, we're going to be covered throughout the long days of training camp.
28:40 Thank goodness.

28:45 It's finally here.
28:46 We'll have all of it over at Boston dot com so you can read all of our stuff over there.
28:50 You can follow me on Twitter.

28:55 And I saw Connor, your blue checkmark is back on Twitter.
28:58 Oh, I heard.
28:59 Yeah, I saw that.
29:01 Welcome back.
29:02 I can't say welcome back.
29:04 But they can say welcome back.
29:06 The blue check.
29:07 It's like that little gif of the kid.
29:09 I think he's got like the spelling bee with all the confetti swallowing on him.
29:12 So I feel like the blue checkmark back.
29:15 But at what cost?
29:16 At what cost, Evan?
29:18 You left us peasants.
29:19 It's ridiculous.
29:20 You're back on the elite.
29:22 You're an elitist now, Connor.
29:24 Sad.
29:25 I'm sad.
29:26 I'm sad.
