00:04 - The purpose of having this press conference
00:07 is to announce our 60th anniversary celebration
00:12 of the Department of Chinese Studies, University of Malaya.
00:19 60 years in Chinese culture, we call it (speaking in foreign
00:22 language)
00:23 It's a full cycle that is of very great significance
00:28 in our culture.
00:31 The department was established in 1963 to 2023.
00:36 So we have come a long way of 60 years.
00:41 In Chinese culture, meaning we have completed
00:44 one full cycle.
00:46 So this is something we usually celebrate.
00:50 And with the changing environment, regionally or globally,
00:56 I think it's high time for us to also to look into
01:01 the future development of Chinese studies.
01:04 With that in mind, a very important program for us
01:09 to celebrate the 60th anniversary is
01:15 an international conference of Chinese studies
01:19 will be organized on the 28th of October.
01:25 So we are inviting renowned scholars from all the continents
01:30 from USA, from Europe, from China, from Taiwan,
01:37 from Korea, from Japan, from Hong Kong, from Singapore.
01:43 So we get them together to put all their minds together
01:48 to give us some thought, some opinions,
01:52 what we should do in the future.
01:55 Should we restructure, should we introduce more courses
02:00 and new methods of research?
02:04 So hopefully you will help us to, as a very good reference
02:09 for us to plan our future programs.
02:14 In the coming international conference,
02:17 we have a very prominent scholar from Taiwan
02:21 who is going to talk about IT and research
02:26 into Chinese studies.
02:28 How to use the cloud, how to use big data,
02:32 incorporate all this into Chinese studies.
02:36 So all this advancement in technology will not retard
02:41 or will not play as an obstacle to the advancement
02:48 of Chinese studies, but they will instigate.
02:52 If you apply all this latest technology
02:55 into Chinese studies, yeah,
02:57 you will help us to advance even further.
03:01 - Or any other pose you want, let us know.
