00:00 Now on to the number one concern, the number one offense in the league, that being Miami
00:04 and that being Tyreek Hill.
00:05 So the Miami Dolphins come in number one in DVOA.
00:08 The Patriots defense is 17th.
00:11 And I just have to ask good friend Aaron Schatz, what the hell, man?
00:15 This defense, you know, he's got the right formula.
00:17 DVOA is the stat to know or you pick one.
00:20 But I think we all know the Patriots defense is much better than that.
00:24 News today, Jonathan Jones, who is not a Tyreek Hill stopper, but I think you would put in
00:29 the top 10 list of players most equipped to handle Tyreek Hill.
00:32 And he has a history going back to 2018 in the AFC Championship game, more recently holding
00:37 him to four catches for 55 yards in Hill's last game against the Patriots.
00:41 He's limited with an ankle injury.
00:43 That could be a real problem for the Patriots, which we'll get to in a minute.
00:47 That is something you deserve now.
00:48 So that's why I say it at the top.
00:49 The other thing I want to say at the top, Brian, you tell me if I'm wrong.
00:53 I feel like the national media is flabbering all over Mike McDaniel and to it in Miami
00:57 for what they did the Chargers.
00:59 Great game.
01:00 Four hundred sixty six yards to have reminded everyone in this press conference this week.
01:03 But we did this last year, right?
01:05 Yeah, we did.
01:06 I think the reason he's getting credit is because he made an adjustment right where
01:11 if you go back to that game to against the Chargers last year, that was one of his worst
01:15 games and he was one of six in the middle of the field.
01:18 And the Chargers said, hey, we're not going to let you throw there.
01:21 Well, this year a change.
01:22 And he was seven, eleven, seven of eleven in the middle of the field.
01:24 And it really does feel like they made one small adjustment.
01:27 Right.
01:28 He was doing a Tyree kill motion across the field like a jet motion.
01:31 He was basically lining up as an H-back and they basically had him getting a running start.
01:37 And so it was the Chargers that never really made an adjustment because you know what they
01:40 did?
01:41 They just had J.C.
01:42 Jackson singled up against Tyree kill.
01:44 What did you think was going to happen?
01:46 So, yes, that performance was very impressive.
01:47 I'm not going to.
01:48 And to a mate, he made that one incredible throw down the sideline where he's like climbing
01:52 the pocket, which was a remarkable throw.
01:55 But also the guy on the other side, Brandon Staley.
01:57 I quite frankly don't know how he still has a job.
02:00 Defense is supposed to be his thing and he never made an adjustment in the game.
02:03 Like J.C.
02:04 Jackson's also coming off a knee injury.
02:05 Like and by the way, did the Patriots dodge a bullet on that or what?
02:08 I mean, I thought at the time they should keep him.
02:10 But man, was I wrong about that?

02:43 I'm glad you said that because we don't keep score enough on ourselves.
02:51 I think as far as accountability, sign this, use this money that I'm not in charge of,
02:55 you know, spend that cap space and then it doesn't work out or it does work out.
02:59 We're not one to say, hey, that would have been a really dumb idea.
03:01 I would have been fired as GM Andrew or Brian a long time ago.
03:05 It is a good adjustment.
03:06 It's a great note by you.
03:07 The middle of the field is where Tua lives best.
03:09 He does have an arm in him.
03:10 The Patriots this week have finally come around to praising him and saying positive things.
03:16 Jonathan Jones, I just tossed it up to him Wednesday.
03:18 I said, hey, we've asked you a million questions about Tyree.
03:21 What are we not asking you about that's important in this game?
03:23 He said, Tua, I think is underrated.
03:25 They didn't do that last year.
03:26 They haven't done it for three years.
03:27 On Tua, I still see a quarterback, whether Tyree Kill is making that short motion, which
03:32 is again, very smart design.
03:33 I think it's a good thing the Patriots have seen it.
03:36 It's someone who needs to stay on schedule.
03:37 He can improvise, but JC Jackson is someone who's also noted if he doesn't have his first
03:43 read, he'll toss it up.
03:44 And that can work when you have Tyree Kill and Jaylon Waddell or the receivers did Alabama.
03:47 But when you look at his splits for his career, under two and a half seconds when he's released
03:51 the ball or after the sack rate goes up, his interception rate goes up.
03:56 The passer rating drops down to below 91.
03:59 His completion percentage goes from just about 69% to 58.
04:03 And so I think this is true of most quarterbacks, maybe not all, but the deal for the Patriots,
04:08 I think is to disrupt him.
04:10 Get that over two and a half on average when he's getting rid of the ball.
04:12 How do they do that here?
04:13 Well, and to your point, if you go to that Chargers game, more than two and a half seconds,
04:19 he was two of 11, 18.2%.
04:20 So in that game in and of itself, he struggled.
04:24 But I think the thing is, Callahan, I don't think he wasn't great.
04:27 I mean, last year, he's getting his numbers are good against the Blitz, worse against
04:31 pressure.
04:32 But from my perspective, I think that the Patriots just have to win up front.
04:35 Right.
04:36 I mean, that's what they need to do.
04:37 If you go back to some of the games that Tua had trouble against last year, it's when he
04:41 had to hold on to the ball, those games against the 49ers and the Chargers.
04:45 And it's not like he was doing it consistently, but it's, hey, can you take advantage of it
04:49 when he's actually having to hold on to the ball?
04:52 So that comes back to your point about Tyree Kill is if this was week one and they made
04:56 that adjustment, it may be more difficult to sort of adjust to the adjustment.
05:00 But now that they've seen it, I would expect that Bill has a plan for it.
05:04 And Steve Belichick and Gerard Mayo, that they had some sort of plan for it where they
05:08 can still take away the middle of the field and not give Tyree Kill all these opportunities
05:12 to get down the field and essentially ruin the game.
05:15 And to their credit, Tyree Kill was good against them in games last year, but he hasn't completely
05:20 dominated them, which I think is a positive going forward for this Patriots team.
05:24 Now, we'll see about the Jonathan Jones situation, but they are more equipped to handle it than
05:28 they have been in years past, too, because I do think that they can get to Tua.
05:32 I mean, this is not a great offensive line.
05:34 I know it looks like they're going to get Armstead back for this game, but they did
05:37 not grade out well last year.
05:38 And one of the things that jumped out to me, man, was Barmore and Keon White.
05:43 These guys are adding to the pass rush.
05:45 Barmore last year, he was in that game against the Dolphins in Week 17.
05:50 Most pressures among any defensive tackle that week.
05:53 And he's been trending in that direction.
05:55 He was good, I thought, in that game on Sunday as well.
05:58 He was good in Week 18 last year.
06:00 And then adding a guy like Keon White to the equation, too, who was beating Lane Johnson.
06:04 So I feel like if they take away the first read to what you originally said, and they
06:09 can get to the quarterback, I think that isn't Isaiah Wynn playing guard for them?
06:12 I know he graded out well last week.
06:14 Robert Hunt did not grade out well.
06:16 Like Isaiah Wynn's in there.
06:17 I mean, come on.
06:18 This should be a big game for Bill.
06:19 I mean, come on.
06:20 It's Isaiah Wynn out there.
06:21 Expose this guy.
