We asked the people of Sheffield should the Supertram be extended?
Transcript
00:00 It should go from Manitow all the way down Prince of Wales Road. It's a massive dual carriageway.
00:05 There's plenty of room for it. But it should be on a smaller version so it can reach more areas.
00:11 Doesn't it go to Manitow already?
00:13 Yes, it goes to Manitow but then it swings right and it goes to Gleadless and then over that way and then down to the Crystal Peaks.
00:21 If it went left down Prince of Wales Road it would go down to Meadowhall that way and all down Greenland Road.
00:28 The short answer is yes. I moved to Sheffield in 1994 and I think at that time the Hillsborough section of the tram route was just coming towards completion.
00:41 They were digging up some rails from the original tram from decades ago in order to lay new ones.
00:48 So I think in terms of living that side of town I think the tram has been really helpful for Hillsborough and so on. It would be great to think it could be extended elsewhere.
00:59 But the cost and the upheaval are factors to consider. I don't live on Abbeydale Road and I don't live up near the hospital.
01:10 But I guess it would be great for people who do once it's actually finished.
01:15 So I think if you could snap your fingers and establish it would be a great thing but there's more to it than that.
01:20 And then the vast cost. You see things fall flat, tram projects fall flat in places like Leeds and so on.
01:28 And there's always the fear I guess that the city embarks on something and then runs out of the path or runs out of the will to keep going.
