A shoplifter in Northumberland has been jailed after police found her hiding in a divan bed base. The former Barker and Stonehouse store in Newcastle could be demolished to make way for student housing. The Sage Gateshead gets a new name.

Samantha Oliver was wanted by police in relation to nine offences of shoplifting in the Ashington

area.

Oliver was convicted of all 11 offences and sentenced to 48 weeks in prison.

A notice was posted on the council's website that a developer is considering the build

and it could have up to 250 apartments.

And finally, the Sagegate has received its new name.

The music venue will now be called the Glasshouse International Centre for Music, which was

inspired from local people who shared their memories of hearing and learning music at
