Mariah's manager tries to validate why it was okay that Mariah acted the way that she did.

00:00 In case you missed it or have been living under a rock, Mariah Carey led us out of 2016

00:04 with probably one of the worst performances ever on New Year's Eve in Times Square.

00:13 And as you can imagine, the blame game started immediately.

00:15 Was it Mariah?

00:16 Was it the Dick Clark producers?

00:17 Was it 2016?

00:18 Was it Donald Trump?

00:19 Who was it?

00:20 Now, Mariah's team is coming forward in an interview with Entertainment Weekly claiming

00:25 what really happened that night.

00:27 Saying it was all because of technical difficulties.

00:30 Yet Mariah had nothing to do with it.

00:32 She didn't drink too much, she wasn't on something, she just didn't fail.

00:36 It was because of technical difficulties.

00:37 According to Mariah's manager, Mariah tried many times before the show to tell the stage

00:41 and sound management that the earpiece they had given her wasn't working and that she

00:45 couldn't hear any music for the tracks she was supposed to sing.

00:48 So apparently without that thing in your ear, a performer can't hear what is happening and

00:53 when the song is coming in and when they're supposed to sing and basically can't perform

00:57 it properly.

00:58 Which is strange because you always see those performers taking it out of their ear.

01:02 And like I'm always like, "Yeah, they're into it now.

01:05 They've got it.

01:06 They're like on it."

01:07 We wanted to know if this is a one-off thing or if Mariah actually does this consistently

01:11 on stage when things go wrong, so we dug a bit deeper.

01:15 Here she is performing a concert from a while back, and this is what she says and does when

01:19 she cannot hear the sound coming from her earpiece.

01:21 "Absolutely nothing in the right ear, so..."

01:25 Not being able to hear is one thing, but completely destroying your performance because of it

01:29 is another.

01:30 And while all of us are up in arms, no one is really surprised because why would a diva

01:34 not act diva-ish with something like this happening?

01:37 The fact is, some performers can handle this kind of pressure live and some can't, even

01:41 if they're a legend.

01:42 And you gotta love her response to it all.

01:44 After her performance, she tweeted, "S*** happens.

01:47 Have a happy and healthy new year, everybody.

01:49 Here's to making more headlines in 2017."

01:51 And girl, you'll be making those headlines.
