00:05 years to top the Billboard 100 chart without the help of any other credited
00:10 artists. Welcome back to What's Trending, I'm Martini Beerman. Make sure to LIKE

00:17 Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" beat out Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do"
00:21 claiming the number one spot on the Billboard 100 this week. The last time a
00:25 female rapper topped the chart was in 1998 when Lauryn Hill made history with
00:29 her song "Doo Wop" - "That Thing."
00:31 "That thing, that thing, that thing."
00:35 With the success of "Bodak Yellow," Cardi B is not only a chart topper, she's one
00:40 of only five female rappers to ever claim that number one spot. But who is
00:45 Cardi B? Where did she come from? And exactly how did she make it to the top
00:49 so quickly? Belcalis El-Mazar, otherwise known as Cardi B, was born on October
00:53 11th, 1992 in the Bronx in New York City. At a young age, Cardi B became a stripper
00:58 and in an interview in 2016, she explained how the money she made from
01:02 stripping enabled her to support herself, which ultimately saved her life.
01:06 "I was poor as hell. I was living with my ex-boyfriend that was beating my ass. I had
01:10 to drop out of school. It was crazy." In 2013, Cardi B started posting videos to
01:16 Instagram and Vine and very quickly gained a following because, to put it
01:19 simply, the girl has no filter, has zero shame, and is downright hilarious.
01:24 "Like you know, I got a lot of people comments like, 'That's why you suck mad s--t. That's why you
01:28 suck mad s--t.' Just because I'm good at it and I'm always talking about it, doesn't
01:32 mean that I'm out here sucking everybody's s--t." Just a couple of years later, Cardi B
01:36 took on a role as a social media influencer full-time, which then enabled
01:40 her to quit her job as a stripper. She's pretty much living the dream. Her
01:43 Instagram fame and sassy attitude caught the attention of producers for the docuseries
01:47 "Love & Hip Hop New York." And after being placed as a cast member on the show, her
01:52 fame actually outgrew the show itself. Despite the skepticism, she released her
01:56 debut single during her first season on "Love & Hip Hop" called "Cheap Ass Weave," a
01:59 remake of Queen's Speech Episode 4 "Brush Your Teeth" by Lady LaShure, which
02:04 was surprisingly well-received and Cardi B's rapping career was born, which led
02:08 her to sign with Atlantic Records and release her debut single "Bodak Yellow."
02:12 "I don't dance now, I make money move." The song is now at the top of the Hot 100 chart
02:18 and Twitter is celebrating. @6thViews tweeted, "Bodak Yellow is the only song
02:22 on the Billboard Hot 100 to reach #1 that I actually think is worth
02:26 that spot. Finally." @snagword10 wrote, "Wow. Honestly, truly, I feel blessed to be
02:32 alive on the day when Cardi B has 'Bodak Yellow' as the number one song in America.
02:35 Praise be God." Even Nicki Minaj, who is rumored to have beef with the rapper,
02:40 tweeted, "Congratulations to a fellow New Yolka and a record-breaking achievement.
02:45 @Bardi this is the only thing that matters. Enjoy it."
02:48 Cardi B responded to Minaj's tweet saying, "Thank you. This means so much coming from
02:53 you. See, nothing but love." The 24-year-old thanked her fans on Instagram and posted
02:58 this video. "Thank you so much. Like, this sh*t is so crazy. Like, sheesh, I don't know what to say, motherf*cker. It's like, ugh."
03:08 So, what do you think about Cardi B? Is she a one-hit wonder, or is she hip-hop's new
