00:10 The latest July Labor Force survey reports the average weekly work hours are measured
00:15 at 42.3 hours in July 2023.
00:18 This is higher than the 36.9 hours in April 2023 and the 40.5 hours in the same period
00:25 last year.
00:26 The survey also says over 7 million workers, or 15.9 percent, consider themselves underemployed.
00:33 This means they either need more hours in their current job, a new job with more working
00:36 hours, or an additional job to supplement their income.
00:40 The unemployment rate in the Philippines also creeps up to 4.8 percent in July 2023.
00:46 This translates to about 2.2 million unemployed individuals across the country.
