00:00 Those who produce the garbage refuse to pay their bills,
00:03 declared Kenya's president at day two
00:05 of the continent's first Africa climate summit.
00:08 Willie Ruto has called for a stronger and more united voice
00:12 on environmental issues affecting 1.3 billion Africans.
00:16 Climate change is holding back the continent's
00:19 economic progress, as it bears the brunt for emissions
00:23 produced by wealthier countries.
00:25 Olivia Beazle brings us more from Nairobi.
00:28 One of the main questions at this summit
00:30 has been how to finance Africa's solutions to climate change.
00:34 Now, most of the people I've spoken to
00:35 have talked about carbon credit markets
00:38 that have really taken center stage,
00:40 but they have also been hugely criticized,
00:42 as many say they just enable wealthy countries
00:45 to continue business as usual,
00:46 to continue polluting while Africa has to pay the price.
00:50 Many African leaders are pushing for other forms of financing,
00:54 as Zimbabwe's Minister for Agriculture,
00:57 Anxious Masuka, explains.
00:59 I think we look at multi-channel sources of financing,
01:04 we're looking at our own resources,
01:05 we're looking at carbon trading,
01:06 but we're also looking to the developed nations
01:08 to be able to live up to their obligations
01:10 to pay the 100 billion annually
01:12 in order to complement all these efforts.
01:14 And we're also looking at the private players
01:16 to come on board, to be able to look at the ecological,
01:19 sustainable and governance issues,
01:22 so that we all are in this
01:24 to be able to complement each other.
01:26 So multiple sources of financing are required
01:29 to accelerate our transition.
01:31 The question of how to finance Africa's solutions
01:33 is not the only challenge.
01:35 Africa also needs to come together
01:37 as a strong and united continent,
01:40 a point that Camorian President Zali Asumane
01:42 really emphasized during his speech on Tuesday.
01:46 African leaders are not only struggling
01:47 to agree on how to finance their solutions,
01:50 but also on what their priorities should be.
01:53 One thing is certain,
01:54 African leaders only have one more day
01:56 to prove to the world that they can speak with one voice.
