00:00 What's going on everyone, it's Taylor Kyles here for CLNS Media.
00:03 Yesterday the Patriots signed Bailey Zappi and Malik Cunningham to their practice squad
00:07 after subjecting them to waivers during the team's initial cuts for the 53-man roster.
00:12 They still left a hold-it-backup quarterback on the Pats roster with Mack Jones being the
00:16 only guy at the position, but they addressed that today by claiming Matt Corral off waivers
00:21 from the Panthers.
00:22 This is a pretty wild acquisition considering the Patriots traded a third-round pick for
00:26 the Panthers to get Corral and turn the picks they received into Bailey Zappi and Marte
00:31 Mappu, now having all three on the roster.
00:34 Corral was also out for all of last year after suffering a Liz Frank injury in the preseason
00:39 against, you guessed it, the Patriots.
00:41 Some pretty diabolical 4D chess for Bill Belichick.
00:44 Now Corral's acquisition makes a lot of sense when you go through Bailey Zappi's
00:48 preseason, as he struggled when it came to processing and creating outside of structure.
00:53 These were two areas I thought Matt Corral really flashed, and he also showed good rushing
00:57 ability, which the Patriots don't have with their top two quarterbacks, and with Malik
01:01 Cunningham seeming like he's still projected to be some kind of wide receiver project.
01:07 That said, Corral did struggle at times when it came to his pocket presence, and his accuracy
01:11 was sporadic, which was also an issue with Bailey Zappi.
01:15 That said, an issue that looked really significant for the Patriots in terms of depth at the
01:19 quarterback position now looks like an area that could potentially be a strength with
01:23 a bunch of young players with plenty of room to develop.
