00:29 - Racing's Pride took place on the seafront
00:31 over the weekend.
00:33 The colorful annual event,
00:34 which happened on Sunday, August 27th,
00:36 saw a large procession make its way from the stand
00:39 in the old town along the seafront to the oval,
00:41 where people enjoyed an afternoon
00:43 of music and entertainment.
00:45 The event enjoyed sunny weather
00:46 and was only affected by a short downpour
00:48 in the late afternoon.
00:50 A suspect will appear in court
00:51 charged with attempted murder
00:53 after a serious collision in Brighton
00:55 left a young woman fighting for her life in hospital,
00:58 according to police.
01:00 Police said emergency services were called
01:01 to Whitehawk Crescent at around 6 a.m.
01:04 on Saturday, August 19th,
01:06 to a report of a 24-year-old woman being hit by a vehicle.
01:09 Officers said she was taken to hospital
01:12 and Fahadah Uddin, 26, of Lanthans Way, London,
01:16 was arrested and subsequently charged
01:18 with attempted murder and two counts of common assault
01:20 of an emergency worker.
01:22 Uddin appeared before Brighton Magistrates Court
01:25 on Tuesday, August 22nd,
01:27 and was remanded in custody to next appear
01:29 before a Crown Court to be fixed.
01:31 On September 19th, police added.
01:33 Two Hastings men were arrested
01:35 after vehicles crashed into two shops in Priory Road
01:38 during the early hours of Saturday morning.
01:40 On August 26th, the vehicles, one a large Range Rover,
01:43 caused extensive damage to two shops
01:45 that are next door to each other.
01:47 No one at the premises were hurt.
01:49 The road was closed for some time on Saturday morning,
01:52 while vehicles were removed.
01:54 Both men have been bailed, pending further inquiries.
01:57 East Bumbury Council's Planning Committee
01:58 has approved three applications
02:00 seeking to develop Site 7A in Sovereign Harbour,
02:03 which is a strip of land between Pacific Drive
02:06 and Pennsy Bay Road.
02:08 Between them, the three applications
02:10 had been seeking permission to build a 66-bed care home,
02:13 a building containing 57 retirement living apartments,
02:16 and a new Aldi supermarket.
02:19 All three schemes, and particularly the Aldi proposals,
02:22 have proven to be controversial among local residents,
02:25 with more than 700 objections submitted
02:27 across the separate applications.
02:30 Objectors were particularly concerned
02:32 about the potential highway impact,
02:33 arguing the development would increase traffic
02:36 and create an unacceptable level of congestion.
02:39 To counteract this, objectors argued for all three sites
02:43 to be accessed via Pennsy Bay Road,
02:45 rather than Pacific Drive.
02:47 However, this concern was not shared by East Sussex Highways,
02:50 which has not raised any objections to the proposals
02:53 and deemed the proposed access arrangements to be suitable.
02:56 A date has been announced
02:57 for when the physical dismantling
02:59 of the Royal Sovereign Lighthouse
03:00 off the coast of East Sussex will start.
03:02 On Wednesday, August 23rd,
03:04 a spokesperson from Trinity House,
03:06 which built the lighthouse,
03:07 said it's currently in the mobilisation phase
03:10 and will then move to the preparatory phase,
03:12 which will include physical works short of dismantling.
03:15 The physical dismantling of the lighthouse
03:17 is expected to commence around the third week in September,
03:20 depending on the weather.
03:22 Four beaches in East Sussex have been named
03:24 in the top 20 to visit in England this summer.
03:27 The team at Sixt has collated a list
03:29 of the top 300 beaches in England from TripAdvisor
03:32 and ranked them based on several factors
03:34 to uncover the best beaches to visit this summer.
03:38 Factors include water quality, visitor ratings,
03:41 the number of cafes and car parks within 400 metres,
03:44 and whether there's a lifeguard and on-site toilet.
03:47 The study says Seaford Bay in East Sussex
03:49 is ninth on the list with an excellent water quality,
03:52 a 4.5 out of five TripAdvisor ratings,
03:55 two nearby cafes, three nearby places to park,
03:58 and an overall rating of 7.45 out of 10.
04:02 Brighton Central Beach is 10th on the list,
04:04 Bexhill Beach is 15th on the list,
04:06 and Canberra Sands in East Sussex
04:08 is also joint 15th on the list with a rating of 7.32.
04:13 A traditional fishing boat that was on display in Hastings
04:15 has been demolished after it was said to be unsafe.
04:18 The RX134 Stacey Marie was on display
04:22 opposite the Dolphin Pub in Rockanory Road
04:24 in Hastings Old Town, close to the fishing beach.
04:27 The clinker-built boat would have been used
04:29 for trawling for place in Dover Soul along Rye Bay.
04:33 D-Day White, who was involved in clearing the site,
04:36 said the boat was rotting very badly from the inside out.
04:39 Concerns had been raised about the risk
04:41 to children on the boat.
04:42 GCSE results came out on Thursday, August 24th,
