00:00 Good morning everyone, welcome to AM Sports here
00:02 with me, Mufti Awanabila Abla.
00:03 And on your shorts is the GFA election 2019.
00:07 We are building up to another edition
00:09 of the Ghana Football Association Elective Congress,
00:12 which is scheduled to happen on September 27.
00:15 However, that has been put on hold
00:18 by the football governing body because Kim Faisal,
00:21 a member of the football family,
00:23 has decided to drag the Ghana Football Association to court.
00:27 And one of the reasons for dragging the GFA to court
00:29 is that the processes or the procedure
00:32 that the GFA is drawing up for this election,
00:37 Kim Faisal, is flawed.
00:39 And they say that there has never been a GFA elections
00:44 where the presidential and executive council elections
00:49 are held before that of regional associations
00:52 as well as district level elections.
00:54 So Kim Faisal has decided that they have to take the matter
00:57 to court to have the court interpret what the rules are
01:02 when it comes to elections.
01:04 So this is a statement from the Ghana Football Association
01:06 published on its website.
01:08 It says, "The Ghana Football Association has decided
01:11 to put the 2023 GFA election timetable on hold.
01:16 This follows a motion for injunction filed at a high court
01:19 by Kim Faisal, a Division One League club in Zone 2.
01:24 The GFA therefore wishes to inform all members
01:27 and stakeholders, especially applicants
01:29 who have filed their nomination forms for various positions
01:32 within the Ghana Football Association
01:34 of the suspension of the GFA election process
01:38 until the hearing of the motion on Wednesday, August 30.
01:42 The announcement of the decision by the election committee
01:45 following the voting of the applicants
01:47 has therefore been put on hold as well.
01:49 The association wishes to urge all members, clubs,
01:53 and applicants to remain calm.
01:55 The association will endeavor to seek
01:57 appropriate legal redress for the prompt return
02:00 to the 2023 election timetable
02:02 and ensure that the calendar is not further disrupted."
02:05 Now, let's move on now and talk about Carola United.
02:20 There's a new change of ownership for that club
02:22 and it is the member of parliament for Tamale Central,
02:26 Haruna Idrisu, who has bought the club
02:29 from its previous owners.
02:31 The late Brigidi died and it was his wife,
02:35 Madam Abina, who was running the club,
02:37 but the club has now been sold
02:39 to the former minority leader of parliament, Haruna Idrisu.
02:42 He says it was never his wish to take the club away
02:45 from the people of the United.
02:47 However, the GFA has disqualified the venue
02:51 of Carola United and as it stands now,
02:54 the club is seeking for a new venue
02:56 for the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
02:58 I've come to welcome Carola Football Club
03:04 into Tamale for their pre-season session
03:08 and to discuss and consult with management
03:13 and the technical team where our venue
03:18 for the 2023-2024 Premier League
03:22 Ghana Football Association probably may be.
03:26 It is not my wish to have taken the team away
03:29 from NUNC, from the people of Nsumma,
03:33 but regrettably, the GFA have disqualified
03:37 the NUNC football pitch as not being desirable
03:41 or meeting their minimum standards.
03:44 So we have to look elsewhere and we will look elsewhere
03:48 and satisfy the Lansing's requirement.
03:51 I'm into football as a vocation.
03:54 It excites me, but it's also now a source
03:58 of good exports of talent.
04:02 But my primary interest is in the development
04:07 of young talents.
04:09 We need to identify, groom and develop young talents
04:13 who want to make a career in football,
04:16 which has now become a very attractive
04:20 and profitable profession.
04:23 - Harry Rissouda is speaking as he welcomes his new club.
04:29 He's also the owner of Steadfast Academy,
04:32 the club that exported Fatao Sahaku to Lisbon.
04:36 Now he owns two clubs in Ghana football.
04:39 Let's talk about Dreams FC,
04:41 their participation in the Confederation Cup.
04:43 They have qualified to the next phase of the competition
04:46 after coming from behind to defeat Milo Ethe,
04:48 the concurrent 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium
04:51 to win their tie 3-1 on aggregate.
04:54 One of their new signings, John Entry,
04:56 who noted home their winning goal
04:59 for them to secure the qualification
05:00 to the next stage of the competition,
05:03 says his dream for coming back to the Dreams family
05:06 is to help them do well in the CAF Interclub competition.
05:10 - I'm come to play my part to help the team
05:15 with the experience, the little experience I have in Africa
05:18 because I've been to the Champions League final,
05:20 I've been to the Confederation Cup final,
05:23 so I know how the terrain is.
05:24 So mine is just to come and help the team go forward
05:28 and at least to the group stage.
05:31 And this is what we are working on.
05:33 And I know God willing we'll get there.
05:35 Aside me, no other player has played in Africa before,
05:40 so we must give them the benefits of the doubt.
05:42 And I think with the hard work and determination,
05:47 we will get there.
05:48 And we are working on it.
05:49 Like the coach said, we will really work hard
05:52 and get to the top.
05:53 - They will work hard and get to the top.
05:57 Talking about getting to the top,
05:58 Mohamed Kudus, he appears to be getting closer to the top
06:01 of his dream of playing in one of the biggest leagues
06:04 in the world after completing a five-year deal
06:07 with West Ham United.
06:10 This serves as an opportunity for many Guardians,
06:12 especially Ghana Hamlets,
06:15 which is the West Ham supporters union in Ghana,
06:18 to finally draw some kind of partnership with the club.
06:22 They say one of their dreams is to have Mohamed Kudus
06:25 partner them to continue to do the charity work
06:28 that they've started since forming
06:30 the West Ham supporters union in Ghana in 2011.
06:35 There's more in the following report.
06:37 Mohamed Kudus over the weekend became the third Ghanian
06:40 after John Pinto and Andre Ayew to sign
06:43 for Premier League side West Ham United
06:45 after completing a €35 million move from Ajax Amsterdam.
06:50 The transfer created a lot of buzz on social media
06:53 with Ghanaian fans full of excitement
06:55 about his arrival in the Premier League.
06:58 But away from the pitch,
06:59 a group that is hoping to capitalise positively
07:02 on the momentum of Kudus' signing
07:04 is the Ghanaian Hamlets,
07:06 West Ham's official supporters group in Ghana.
07:09 Formed in 2010, the group has embarked on a series of events
07:13 aimed not just at promoting the club's fan base here in Ghana,
07:17 but also, and more importantly, helping the less privileged.
07:21 I think the main core mandate that we have is on our mission.
07:26 Our mission is to what?
07:28 Bring an impact or smile to the faces of the less privileged.
07:32 And we have been doing that.
07:34 Throughout the years, West Ham has donated a lot of stuff
07:38 that we can't just mention,
07:40 though cash and everything,
07:41 but we've been able to what?
07:43 Bring people to understand that
07:46 if you are less privileged, you can be helped.
07:48 We supported education, we supported structures,
07:50 and then we think that this is not the last thing we're doing.
07:54 We are open to anything.
07:55 So, if Kudus is saying that he's coming on board,
07:58 we can't wait to meet him
07:59 and then see the progress that we'll take with him.
08:03 The whole issue was to look at
08:05 teams that produce academic impact.
08:08 I've tried my best to look at West Ham
08:11 and I've seen that the likes of Lampard,
08:13 the likes of Jokul, the likes of Ferdinand,
08:15 the Ferdinand family, Antoine and then Ferdinand.
08:19 All these people were nurtured from West Ham.
08:22 So, I said, "Okay, this is a transition team."
08:25 So, I supported them from 2010.
08:28 So, way back in 2013, I had a fan base that was increasing.
08:34 From there, here comes John Benjamin,
08:36 the former UK High Commissioner.
08:37 I always give him the respect wherever he is.
08:40 He came in 2017 and he called me to let me know
08:44 how much he loved my content.
08:46 Through there, we have no less than 300 members now
08:49 across Ghana, I can just say,
08:52 Wa, Upper West Region, Tamale and then across the whole.
08:56 So, we are loud and then we think Kudus coming,
09:00 Surin just beyond expectation only.
09:03 It should be hard to help grow the fan base as well.
09:07 That persistence in charity work didn't go unnoticed
09:10 by Mohamed Kudus, who in his first interview with the club,
09:14 pledged his support in future projects with the group.
09:17 I didn't know about them before,
09:19 but when I had the intuition that I was going to come here,
09:22 you know, and I saw them starting mentioning me
09:25 on my platforms a lot of times.
09:27 So, I click on it and I see what they do,
09:30 how they support Hamas and they are raising funds
09:34 for some charity works and stuff like that.
09:36 So, I think it's brilliant, you know,
09:37 it's more than just supporting Hamas.
09:40 So, I think it's more than football,
09:42 which is all about people and stuff like that.
09:44 So, definitely, definitely, I would definitely visit there
09:47 and we see how we can impact in other people's life
09:50 using football in our too, you know.
09:52 The Ghanaian Hamas have welcomed the support from Kudus
09:56 and can't wait to see him get started at the London club.
09:59 It's a big one, of course,
10:00 but we've been doing our own corporate social responsibilities
10:04 over the years.
10:05 If you go through our timeline,
10:07 you can see that we've done,
10:08 helps the kids to realize their future.
10:12 So, for a moment, Kudus saying that he's coming on board,
10:15 it's not a new thing for us,
10:18 but as Ghanaians, they would think it's a new thing.
10:20 So, we are welcoming it as a good initiative
10:23 and then we're also looking forward to seeing him.
10:26 If Kudus is saying that he's coming on board,
10:28 we can't wait to meet him and then see the progress
10:30 that will take.
