00:00 You were really excited about the idea of maybe collaborating with Selena Gomez.
00:04 I don't know.
00:05 Your audience just goes wild for those thirst traps, Maluma.
00:09 I have fun with it.
00:10 How does it feel to be on this journey with such a supportive partner?
00:14 It's amazing. It's beautiful.
00:15 Are you bringing any fans on stage?
00:17 If I don't do it, my fans will kill me, you know?
00:19 [Music]
00:31 Maluma, so good to be with you here rehearsing for the Don Juan World Tour.
00:37 Yeah.
00:37 You know, your shows historically are always massive.
00:41 Thank you.
00:42 But you have said that this is your most ambitious tour yet.
00:46 Oh yeah, for sure.
00:47 So I want to know, how are you outdoing yourself?
00:50 Well, I'm trying to take the game to another level, you know?
00:53 Like, after the show that I did in Medellín, Colombia, in the stadium,
00:58 that was so crazy for me because there were like 55,000 people over there in one night.
01:04 And I was like, "Yo, if I'm gonna do this again, I need to take it to another level."
01:09 So that's why we came here straight to Los Angeles.
01:13 We rent all these places, you know, to be here almost a month,
01:17 rehearsing with the dancers, the musicians, the whole band.
01:20 Everybody's like connecting and yeah, we're like in the same page.
01:23 We're trying to take this to another level music-wise.
01:26 You know, I have new songs, all these things that are happening,
01:30 Tao K remix with Karol G and these guys from Brasil and Coco Loco and all these new songs.
01:37 Parcera, my favorite.
01:38 Parcera with Gordo, yeah, exactly.
01:39 So I have like all these songs that are super new and it's like a new sound for me.
01:44 So I feel like it's gonna be pretty exciting, like,
01:46 perform all these new songs live and sharing this time with my fans, you know?
01:51 - Yeah. - It's crazy.
01:52 Okay, so if you had to describe the Don Juan World Tour in one word, what would you say?
01:57 That's a nice question.
02:00 I would say magical, for sure.
02:03 Magical because every moment is pretty special.
02:06 Like the lights, we're taking care of every detail because that's the way I like working,
02:11 you know?
02:11 I like to take care of every detail and go and check the lights, go and check the cameras.
02:16 New ideas.
02:17 I have new ideas every morning when I wake up and I come here with the team.
02:21 I'm like, "Yo guys, we should have this in this space in the show."
02:25 And you know, everybody's like super excited about it.
02:28 It's magical.
02:30 Like with the name of the album that is called Don Juan and the whole perspective,
02:34 the whole scene is so exciting.
02:38 Like these James Bond mix with Hugh Hefner, you know?
02:43 Like this is a nice character, you know, that we're about to present in the tour.
02:48 I've been to two of your shows before.
02:51 Okay.
02:51 And you brought out surprise performers at both.
02:54 Okay.
02:54 I have to know for the Don Juan World Tour,
02:56 calls out to J-Lo, Ricky Martin, Shakira, The Weeknd to come and pop up at some of your tour dates.
03:02 Yeah, I'll do it for sure.
03:04 I'm going to do a couple of phone calls.
03:06 Let's see if they're going to be available because they're always super busy.
03:09 For sure.
03:10 Same as me.
03:11 But I'm pretty sure I'm going to bring a little bit, a couple surprises.
03:16 Let's see what happens because as soon as I got here to LA,
03:20 I saw my phone and I started calling him.
03:21 Like a couple of them.
03:22 Who'd you call?
03:23 Well, actually I called Sway Lee.
03:25 He's a friend of mine and we had this song that's called Hands and Me together.
03:30 And we have a couple of songs together.
03:32 So maybe he will come.
03:35 Let's see.
03:35 Okay.
03:36 We'll manifest it.
03:37 Yeah.
03:38 And speaking of manifesting, the last time you and I spoke,
03:40 you were really excited about the idea of maybe collaborating with Selena Gomez.
03:45 What is the status?
03:46 Can we get that song?
03:47 Selena, please.
03:48 It would be a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with her.
03:51 Yeah.
03:52 And since then, she's put out a full Spanish album, Revelacion.
04:01 What is the status of this collaboration?
04:03 Will fans ever get it?
04:04 Well, you know that that was weird.
04:06 We just stopped talking.
04:07 I don't know.
04:08 Like she just stopped replying my messages.
04:10 I don't know if she got mad.
04:11 I don't know.
04:12 Whatever.
04:12 But we were excited about it.
04:14 Like we were thinking about doing a whole new song.
04:17 Also, I have a friend of mine who works with her too.
04:20 He's her producer and we're talking about it.
04:23 And we're making like a couple of ideas for her.
04:26 But I don't know.
04:27 I don't know if I get the chance to work with her.
04:30 It's great.
04:31 If not, I'm still here.
04:32 Keep carrying on.
04:34 You know, keep killing it.
04:35 We can't stop.
04:36 So you're not only giving us a world tour.
04:38 You're also dropping the Don Juan album.
04:40 Yay.
04:41 Who or what is inspiring these songs?
04:45 Well, I feel like this character that we're building is a little bit more mature.
04:51 So it's a character.
04:52 Yeah, because that's what I do in every album.
04:55 I like to transform my energy in characters.
04:58 You know, like Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy.
05:00 Then it was 11-11, Fame.
05:03 Then Papi Juancho.
05:05 And then after Papi Juancho, I feel the energy, you know.
05:09 I don't know.
05:10 I just woke up one day and I'm like, "Okay, I'm not a kid anymore."
05:13 You know, I'm 29 years old right now.
05:16 I feel like in this whole character that I'm creating in this world,
05:21 I would say that it's more like a business guy also.
05:25 And who's taking care of different things.
05:27 So yeah, I tried to build this character, Don Juan.
05:30 And it's amazing.
05:32 I love it.
05:33 I'm having so much fun with it.
05:35 You know, it's nice.
05:36 Who is Don Juan?
05:37 Well, I just...
05:38 Is he a version of you?
05:39 Yeah, it's a version of me.
05:42 A version of Juan Luis.
05:43 Like more mature, more grounded, I would say.
05:46 More ambitious, with bigger goals also.
05:54 And yeah, all the family thing and the animal stuff is still there.
05:58 It's still there.
05:59 It's not that I'm going to become a douchebag or something like that.
06:01 No.
06:02 I'm still a good human being, or worse.
06:04 But it's still there.
06:05 The character is growing in different aspects and I really love it.
06:07 I wanted to ask you, because your last studio album, Papi Juancho,
06:11 this studio album, Don Juan,
06:13 it seems like you're really embracing Juan Luis, your real name.
06:16 Is there a part of you that thinks about maybe saying goodbye to Maluma
06:21 and maybe rebranding as JL, as your team calls you?
06:25 Wow, that's nice.
06:27 But no, I would say that Maluma is Maluma.
06:30 You know, like that guy is the one who put some food on my table
06:35 and for my family's table.
06:37 So I would say that I'm forever grateful.
06:39 And that's the formula.
06:41 And if the formula keeps working, I won't change it.
06:44 Okay, so Maluma forever.
06:45 Yeah, Maluma baby, forever, ever, ever.
06:49 [Music]
06:57 You just mentioned you're 29 years old.
06:59 You're going to turn 30 in January.
07:01 It's a big birthday.
07:03 You love it?
07:03 I love it.
07:04 I can't wait.
07:05 You're about to step into a new decade.
07:07 What is one thing you want to do personally
07:10 and one thing you want to do professionally?
07:14 Well, personally, I would say I always dream about being a dad.
07:19 You know, have a family.
07:22 For me, that's like the biggest goal ever.
07:24 Well, you told me that you wanted to do it before your 30s.
07:28 Before 30s, I think I would want to have a child.
07:33 Is that on the horizon?
07:34 Well, I wish.
07:35 Come on, whatever God wants for me.
07:38 Come on, man.
07:40 However you want it, I'll be here.
07:42 Like, for real, that's one of my biggest goals for sure.
07:46 Okay.
07:47 But professional, I always wanted to have like an Anglo Grammy,
07:51 you know, like an American Grammy.
07:53 Like for me, that's like something that I always dream about with one of my albums.
07:58 So maybe this one is the one.
08:00 Maybe it's Don Juan, baby.
08:01 Yes.
08:02 I trust the process.
08:03 Like we've been working so hard on this album almost two years.
08:06 So maybe it could happen.
08:07 Let's see.
08:08 That's a great goal, 100%.
08:09 And you're also crushing it on social media.
08:12 Quickly inching your way up to 100 million followers.
08:15 I think you're around 70 right now.
08:17 Yeah.
08:18 You know that your audience just goes wild for those thirst traps, Maluma.
08:22 We love them.
08:23 I have fun with it.
08:25 Yes.
08:25 I'm curious, how do you decide what photos to post, when to post it?
08:29 How do you do all of that?
08:30 I just have fun with it, you know?
08:32 I just, I love, like, it's like a game that I have with my fans, you know?
08:36 Like when I post this kind of stuff, I start reading all the comments, you know?
08:40 You do?
08:40 So you're in there.
08:41 Oh yeah, that's all my ideas.
08:44 Everything is my idea.
08:44 Of course, I have my team and we do like brainstorming like almost every day.
08:48 But more with the technical stuff, you know?
08:50 Like this, like my Instagram or my social media, we always have ideas.
08:54 But literally, if I'm at home and then I see the mirror, I'm like, "Yo, maybe this could
09:00 work like this.
09:01 Let's do it."
09:02 And then it works.
09:02 I'm like, "Okay."
09:04 There you go.
09:05 That's something that, you know, I never think too much about it.
09:08 I just do it because I love it.
09:11 You have a good creative eye.
09:12 You're like, "This shirtless selfie, I know my fans are going to love it.
09:15 The Posteros are going to go crazy."
09:16 And sometimes I just think like that's what they want too, you know?
09:20 And like, so if that's what they want, I'm going to give it to them because it's a deal.
09:24 Yep, that's it.
09:25 It's a partnership.
09:25 Yeah, it's a partnership, you know?
09:27 If they want it, they have it.
09:28 Yeah.
09:28 And my final question for you, I know you're very private and we totally respect that,
09:32 but we love seeing you so happy.
09:34 Thank you.
09:38 How does it feel to be on this journey with such a supportive partner?
09:41 It's amazing.
09:43 It's beautiful.
09:44 You know, like I always try to keep it super private, you know?
09:47 Like my private life is Juan Luis' life.
09:50 Paloma is separate.
09:52 Yeah, yeah.
09:53 And I always try to keep it away a little bit, but still it's almost impossible because
09:58 you guys see me every day.
10:00 But I'm good, you know?
10:01 I'm happy.
10:02 I'm very balanced.
10:04 That's important.
10:05 That's very important for me.
10:06 My mental health, it's always good.
10:10 So for me, it's like, it's the best, the best I could get.
10:14 And yeah, I feel happy, you know?
10:17 When you feel happy and you feel like you don't own anything to anyone, you know, that's
10:23 the way it should be.
10:24 So that's why I feel like this album also has like a different energy, you know?
10:29 Like every day I'm more mature, I'm understanding how it works better every day.
10:33 So, so yeah, I'm happy and I'm grateful.
10:36 I'm so happy for you.
10:37 We feel it in your music.
10:38 Don Juan World Tour, Don Juan album.
10:41 Please.
10:41 You're coming.
10:42 Of course.
10:42 Please.
10:43 I've seen you at the Forum.
10:44 This will be my third time.
10:45 Okay.
10:45 I think it's going to be the best time.
10:46 This is going to be crazy.
10:48 Trust me, you're going to love it.
10:49 Are you bringing any fans on stage?
10:51 For sure.
10:52 I know you have.
10:52 I know you've done that in the past.
10:53 We have to.
10:54 If I don't do it, my fans will kill me, you know?
10:56 So I have to.
10:57 So everybody watching, you could be on stage with Maluma.
11:00 Please, please, come, come.
11:01 Maybe it's you.
