00:00 In the snowy highlands range flocks of wild sheep called Anatolian Mouflon.
00:26 Endemic to Turkey and a favourite prey for wolves.
00:38 Living at well over 3,000 feet on exposed terrain, Mouflon have had to evolve to cope
00:44 with this harsh environment.
00:50 A long, dense winter coat helps to counteract the sub-zero temperatures.
01:02 Food must be prized from the ground's icy grip.
01:12 Digging up plant tubers sustains them through the worst of the winter.
01:28 But they are vulnerable.
01:30 And the wolves are hungry too.
01:33 Mouflon rely on well-developed senses to detect predators and stay out of their way.
01:39 But today, they're not aware of the wolf's approach.
01:52 When they finally spot him, the wild sheep flee, triggering his chase instincts.
02:08 It's easy to out-sprint wolves on flat ground, but in deep snow, the predator gains the advantage.
02:16 Known to chase their quarry for up to 12 miles at a time, the wolf has amazing stamina.
02:32 Closing ranks, the herd makes it hard for him to single out a victim.
02:39 But panic sets in as he gains ground.
02:47 It's a quick kill.
