The prosecution will prove that an "unemployed" Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor received large sums of money into her current account at Affin Bank Berhad and used it to pay telephone and credit card bills incurred by her and members of her family.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib also said in his opening statement on the first day of Rosmah’s money laundering trial before Justice K. Muniandy on Thursday (Aug 24) that the prosecution will prove that the accused when questioned by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers made false statements concerning the monies which she had paid into her account.

00:37 are wholly disproportionate to the accused's means.
00:41 He told the court that Rosmah used the services of Roslan Sohari, who was the residential house
00:47 manager of the Sri Padana Complex in Putrajaya at that time, to make the deposits on her
00:53 behalf.
00:54 Ahmad Akram added that the monies in question were never disclosed to the Inland Revenue
01:00 Board (LHDN) as required by written law and neither was any income tax ever paid on these
01:07 monies.
01:08 Therefore, Ahmad Akram said the prosecution will prove that the accused, when questioned
01:14 by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers, made false statements concerning
01:19 the monies which she had paid into her account.
01:23 71-year-old Rosmah is facing 12 money laundering charges involving over RM7.1 million and five
01:31 counts of failure to declare her income to the LHDN.
