00:00 NASA is hoping to send humans back to the moon soon, for the first time in over 50 years.
00:08 However, for the first time ever, the Indian Space Research Organization or ISRO has just
00:13 successfully landed an unmanned craft on the lunar surface.
00:17 This is the second attempt at a moon landing by the country.
00:20 India's last attempt to reach the lunar surface was back in September 2019, but ISRO
00:24 lost contact with the spacecraft as it was set to descend.
00:28 The debris from the crash was later discovered around 370 miles away from its intended landing
00:32 spot.
00:33 The recent successful touchdown is also a first for humanity, as the ISRO's craft is
00:38 the first to land on the moon's south pole, an area many believe has water.
00:42 However, this wasn't the only moon landing scheduled for this week on the southern pole
00:45 of Earth's only natural satellite.
00:47 Russia's space program was hoping to beat India's to a moon landing.
00:50 However, they lost contact with their spacecraft as it got ready to enter its landing orbit.
00:54 Roscosmos said after the failure that the spacecraft lost contact with mission control,
00:59 causing it to enter the moon's orbital path and crash.
01:02 India's government says they hope this successful moon landing will encourage private space
01:06 firm investment in their country.
