00:00 Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian have welcomed the newest member of their team.
00:05 The pair announced the birth of their second child together. Serena and Alexis,
00:10 who are also parents to 5-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.,
00:15 first revealed they were expecting at the 2023 Met Gala. Dressed in Gucci,
00:20 the tennis champion debuted her bump on the red carpet. Then, taking to Instagram on May 1,
00:26 Serena captioned a series of photos, "Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three
00:32 of us to the Met Gala." In a video posted days later, the 41-year-old let fans in
00:38 on the moment Olympia found out she was going to be a big sister.
00:43 "Remember how you've been praying for a little sister or brother?
00:46 Well, we went to the doctor and it turns out I'm not getting fat, but I have a baby in my body."
00:57 And as for how Serena felt about hitting the Met steps with baby number two on board?
01:11 "I think it went well. We walked the red carpet, we made the announcement,
01:15 and most of all we had a blast. And now it's time to party."
01:20 In an essay for Vogue published in August 2022, Serena announced she would be evolving away from
01:28 tennis, with her focus shifting to expanding her family. At the time, the 23-time Grand Slam winner
01:34 said, "In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got
01:40 some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we're ready,
01:46 we can add to our family. I definitely don't want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be
01:51 two feet into tennis or two feet out," she continued. "And I almost did do the impossible.
01:58 A lot of people don't realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open
02:02 in 2017, but I'm turning 41 this month, and something's got to give." Congratulations, Serena and Alexis!
