The Cannondale SuperSix Evo has been leaked but, what's it all about? Well, we took a look at the images that were posted by riders at EF-EducationFirst-EasyPost and try and work out what we can expect from the new model. The standout features seem to be a new head tube design, made to be more friendly with third party bar and stem combo's. An all new seat tube can be seen with seemingly both aero and compliance values at heart and that's not to mention the mysterious 'LAB71' logo found on the frame. Sam Gupta takes a look and tries to unpack all the latest developments.

00:00 Exciting news for Cannondale fans, a new bike has been leaked via some riders at
00:05 Team EF Education First Easy post. Now I've seen images and I've seen a video
00:10 of the bike so I'm gonna share everything that I think I know about the
00:14 new offering. The first obvious thing is that it seems to share quite a few
00:18 similarities with the current Super 6 Evo 3, so this model is presumably going
00:23 to be its replacement. If so that means it will then be known as the Super 6 Evo 4
00:28 essentially the fourth generation of the Super 6 Evo platform. The current
00:33 model of Cannondale Super 6 Evo was launched in the summer of 2019 which
00:37 although that's just three and a half years ago it works out to be the typical
00:41 lifespan of a modern road bike. Usually brands tend to refresh models from
00:45 anywhere between three and five years. Now if you've watched either our latest
00:49 tech of the month or our 2023 road bike tech trends video then you'll know that
00:53 we were suspecting a new bike would be coming from Cannondale but I'm surprised
00:58 it's come so soon. I was personally expecting the bike to be showing up at
01:02 the Tour de France but clearly both Cannondale and EF want to be on the bike
01:06 for the start of the new season. Now while the current generation and this
01:10 new model do seem to share quite a few similarities there are still some
01:14 significant changes which do indeed confirm that this is a brand new bike.
01:19 Firstly the change that probably most Cannondale fans will be very happy to
01:23 see is actually the redesigned cable routing from the handlebars down into
01:28 the frame. The outgoing Super 6 Evo featured a channel on the front of the
01:32 head tube through which then the cables entered but in some instances this then
01:36 caused damage to the cables and the hoses and it created an aesthetic sore
01:41 point for when you use anything other than a Cannondale issue cockpit. The new
01:46 model appears to feature cleaner routing through the bottom spacer and in turn it
01:50 looks like the ability to use different bar and stem combinations is going to be
01:54 a lot easier to do and it won't provide such an eyesore. Because of that it then
01:58 creates a smoother head tube appearance and the rear of the head tube itself
02:02 actually looks to be even more squared off than before. Another area of reshaped
02:07 tubing is found at the seat tube. On the outgoing model the seat tube remained
02:10 consistent in depth from the top to the bottom but there's a very significant
02:16 change at the junction with the seat stays on this new version. The seat stays
02:20 now meet the seat tube lower down but the area above that junction is now a
02:25 lot more aerodynamically optimized but then when you look below it it's now a
02:30 lot thinner and we can only assume that that has been done to build in
02:34 compliance into the frame. Now to go back to that section of tubing above the seat
02:38 stay junctions you can see that it is a lot more aero and it also looks like
02:43 Cannondale have got rid of the D-shaped seat post and then have replaced it with
02:47 again something that's a lot more aerodynamic. Now while it's impossible to
02:51 tell from the images I'm gonna take a punt and I'm gonna assume that it is
02:55 gonna have a threaded bottom bracket. Obviously we can't see that but I think
02:59 it's fair to assume that this new bike will be following in the footsteps of
03:02 other recently released Cannondales. The Super Eagle Eye viewers amongst you may
03:07 have noticed this Lab 71 logo on the side of the frame. Now we've seen
03:12 reports of Cannondale trying to trademark the moniker and I reckon that
03:16 the 71 potentially relates to 1971 which is of course the birth year of Cannondale
03:22 but what does it mean? Well maybe it's Cannondale's version of S-Works for
03:27 Specialized denoting the use of a higher grade of carbon fiber or maybe it's much
03:33 like Trek's Project One system where you have a custom paint job service. Until we
03:38 get clarification from Cannondale we aren't going to know but it definitely
03:43 means something quite exciting. Now while these images give us a slight idea of
03:47 what tire clearance could be I think it's actually better to look at the
03:49 overall market trend. The fact is nobody's going to be making a bike with
03:54 less clearance. Now the current third generation has space for 30 mil wide
03:59 tires. I think it's fair to assume that this model would probably come with
04:02 either 32 or 34 mil worth of clearance. The question I'm sure we're all asking
04:08 though is when will this bike launch? Well since riders have fully built, fully
04:12 painted bikes I think it's fair to assume that the release will be imminent.
04:16 Clearly the team and Cannondale want to kick off the year with the brand new
04:21 bike so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we see the red carpet rolled
04:25 out for the latest Super 6 Evo. What do you think of the new bike though? Let me
04:30 know down in the comments below. If you enjoyed the video then please do drop it
04:34 a like, subscribe to the channel for more content and I'll see you again very soon.
04:37 We'll see.
