00:00 Next, the taxis are also getting more expensive.
00:05 In the middle of the new round of the Oil Price Hike tomorrow,
00:09 Dano Tincunco will be the one to talk.
00:11 In more than three decades of driving a taxi,
00:17 George Marimat has only recently experienced the hardship of driving
00:21 because of the increasing price of gasoline.
00:25 I only get a little bit of my income from gasoline.
00:31 The income I earned from 7 in the morning until now,
00:36 560 pesos,
00:38 I put the gasoline for 560 pesos only.
00:42 This is also what his fellow drivers are going through.
00:45 Tomorrow, there is another high price for oil.
00:49 Pesos 10 centimos per liter of gasoline,
00:52 20 centimos for diesel, and 70 centimos for kerosene.
00:56 According to GMA News Research,
00:59 in the 6th week of the price hike,
01:02 8.85 pesos per liter was increased.
01:06 And the prevailing price in Metro Manila is at 60.55 to 81.05 pesos.
01:13 12.50 pesos per liter of diesel was increased,
01:17 and 11.85 pesos per liter of kerosene in the 7th week of the price hike.
01:23 That's why the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association,
01:26 or PINTOA, called the LTFRB.
01:28 They are now taking action on their motion for reconsideration
01:31 on the petition to increase the flag down of taxis
01:33 from 70 pesos to 40 pesos.
01:37 In 2021, PINTOA petitioned the LTFRB
01:40 to increase the flag down by 30 pesos.
01:43 Last year, the LTFRB agreed to increase the flag down of taxis
01:47 but only by 5 pesos.
01:49 But PINTOA said that this was not implemented by the operators
01:52 because they asked for an increase of 30 pesos in the flag down.
01:56 The last time that the taxis had a responsive fare increase
02:01 was way back in 2017.
02:03 Six years ago, when prices of fuel went up to 38 pesos.
02:08 We need a more responsive and realistic fare increase,
02:13 which is what was contained in our petition.
02:17 But the petition also includes taxi drivers and passengers,
02:21 especially since other prices are high now.
02:23 It's more boring for us if our flag down is 70 pesos.
02:27 So that we can recover, because the gas price is really high.
02:32 The 70 pesos flag down, many passengers were angry with us.
02:36 It's not reasonable to increase it.
02:40 Do you still ride a taxi?
02:42 Yes, I work in BGC.
02:44 It's not reasonable because our salaries are not increasing.
02:48 For me, it's an increase because I'm just a minimum wage.
02:54 Because all our purchases have increased,
02:56 they should also increase.
02:58 We all have a living.
03:00 We are still waiting for the LTFRB to accept this petition.
03:04 In another statement, Senator Grace Poe said
03:07 that instead of increasing the fare,
03:09 the 3 billion pesos fuel subsidy should be divided.
03:12 The DOTR said that they will give this target at the end of August.
