00:00 Rosie entered our lives two years ago. She was starving. She didn't have a mom.
00:04 She was about two weeks old. My sisters and I, we've been rescuing cats our
00:09 entire life.
00:12 We're headed to Sausalito, California to go kayaking.
00:14 We try to take the pack everywhere we go.
00:16 This is Lilo, and this is Infinity.
00:18 We call her Fitty for short, and that's Rosie in there.
00:20 Hi Rosie!
00:22 Not very often do we have cats.
00:24 Have you had a cat? Never.
00:26 Love the life jackets.
00:28 We're going to go to the railways, and then we're going to come out and pass the harbor seal haul out and head on back.
00:33 Good girl. Oh my.
00:35 We can't see, Finny.
00:37 That's a dog that's used to kayaking right there.
00:39 Lilo and Rosie need to be together on the same boat, otherwise she starts to freak out.
00:44 Rosie in particular, when she came to us, she was weak, lethargic.
00:49 She wasn't drinking milk.
00:51 We would wake up every two hours to try to get her to feed.
00:54 She was getting thin and more frail.
00:57 She took a turn for the worse overnight.
00:59 Lilo seemed interested in her.
01:01 She was dying, and Lilo was available.
01:04 So we put them together, not knowing what would happen.
01:06 And Lilo decided that she wanted to help her and mother her.
01:12 We were so surprised.
01:14 After a few hours of cuddling, we decided, "Okay, maybe she's ready for milk."
01:18 And lo and behold, she started drinking milk.
01:21 Lilo just stayed by her side the entire time.
01:24 Wouldn't even get up to eat.
01:26 [♪♪]
01:29 She feels the wind, and she's like, "Oh, I like this."
01:32 [♪♪]
01:34 [laughing]
01:35 So what we saw when they were first getting closer is a lot of patience on Lilo's part.
01:40 Lilo would just be so gentle with her.
01:43 Lilo was essentially Rosie's mother, and she saved her life.
01:48 Because we rescue kittens so often, we cannot keep them.
01:51 The rule is we nurse them back to health, we find them a good home.
01:55 And that's exactly what we were planning to do with Rosie.
01:57 We were going to find her a home.
01:59 Their bond would not allow us to separate them, so we had to adopt Rosie.
02:04 [♪♪]
02:09 Good girl, Lilo.
02:11 [♪♪]
02:13 Lilo, are you okay?
02:14 Lilo and Rosie's very first adventure was we were leashing up to go to the park,
02:20 and Rosie just wanted to come along because Rosie goes with Lilo everywhere.
02:25 We decided to see what happens.
02:28 And she did walk. She followed Lilo.
02:30 And it became a new normal for us.
02:33 [♪♪]
02:35 We go to the park a lot. We love hiking. We go on road trips.
02:39 We swim in our pool together, and we love going on walks together.
02:43 They really have a zest for adventure.
02:46 [♪♪]
02:59 [♪♪]
03:27 Okay, we're going to crash. We're going to crash.
03:30 [♪♪]
03:51 You okay, Rosie?
03:53 Rosie's a little short there.
03:56 As Rosie grew up, Lilo became her mentor
03:59 and taught her what it's like to be outside and how to go on adventures and how to be brave.
04:04 Rosie's all grown up. She's much more independent from Lilo,
04:08 and Lilo's still kind of holding on to that motherhood.
04:10 So Lilo will clean her, and Rosie will just have to tolerate it.
04:14 But she still needs Lilo there sometimes to support her.
04:17 Lilo would help Rosie be more outgoing.
04:20 Rosie's calm personality helps Lilo be calm.
04:23 Yeah, they help each other be who they are.
04:26 [♪♪]
04:33 Oh, my. I got her. I got her. I got her.
04:36 [♪♪]
04:38 Can you get him?
04:40 She liked it for the most part.
04:42 Except maybe falling in. I don't know if she liked that part.
04:44 She was totally fine, and she went back to looking around.
04:46 She keeps coming back for more.
04:48 I think they all have fallen in. I have fallen in.
04:50 Thank you so much.
04:52 You're welcome.
04:54 Rosie, you had a good time?
04:56 Not going to like a month.
04:58 [♪♪]
05:20 Okay. I have work, but--
05:22 You can do the night work.
05:24 Yeah, I come home at 7 anyways.
05:26 We take in kittens every year when it's kitten season.
05:28 We nurse them back to health, and we find them homes.
05:31 [♪♪]
05:33 So this is Ferrero.
05:35 This is Hershey, Neslie, Pocky, and Dove.
05:39 And together, they're called a box of chocolate.
05:42 [♪♪]
05:46 We had a few kittens last year.
05:49 This one in particular, his name was Magic.
05:51 And Rosie kind of served as his protector.
05:54 Similar to how Lilo serves as Rosie's mentor and protector.
05:59 [♪♪]
06:06 We would take him out on walks.
06:08 Magic has been adopted.
06:10 Now Magic and his parents go on adventures.
06:14 [♪♪]
06:22 Because Lilo raised Rosie, sometimes she thinks she's a dog.
06:27 Rosie knows high five, high ten, bang.
06:30 We think she's smarter than most.
06:32 She might be smarter than Lilo.
06:34 We never could have predicted the outcome of that night.
06:38 Lilo decided to help her.
06:41 I don't think they see a lot of each other's differences.
06:44 They just accept one another.
06:46 They can teach people a lot about how differences can make you stronger
06:50 and how friendship doesn't have to be with people who are similar this day and age.
06:56 Their relationship teaches us a lot.
06:58 [♪♪]
07:14 There was Pony locked up for a long time, and he needed us to take him.
07:20 [♪♪]
07:25 That's the first day Pony ever had good care.
07:28 [♪♪]
07:31 Good things were beginning to happen.
07:34 [♪♪]
07:36 [♪♪]
