00:00 I saw them bringing him out of his kennel,
00:02 and he didn't want to walk.
00:03 He couldn't hear, he couldn't see out of one eye.
00:06 You could just tell he was really confused.
00:08 Hey, buddy boy.
00:10 He's probably 15 or 16.
00:12 Come on, bud.
00:13 I assume he was surrendered because he had cancer.
00:17 All right, guys.
00:19 What are you trying to do?
00:22 You're trying to get up, aren't you?
00:24 You're good, I'm sorry.
00:26 You can't come all the way up into the front seat,
00:28 I'm sorry.
00:30 I remember the expression on his face.
00:32 You could just feel his pain.
00:33 Hey, big man, can I come sit back here with you, sir?
00:36 Thank you, sir.
00:37 He's a very old super senior.
00:40 He has some cancerous growths.
00:43 What do you think, buddy?
00:44 What do you think, buddy boy?
00:45 He was not doing well.
00:46 I could hear him labored breathing.
00:48 I could see him shaking.
00:49 He really is a good boy.
00:50 I'm gonna give him more space so he can lay down.
00:54 All right, we almost got stuck in the car.
00:56 All right, bro.
00:57 You ready to do this, my man?
00:59 So my original assessment was,
01:01 I don't know that he's gonna make it very long.
01:03 I just wanted to get him home and get him loved
01:07 and give him a good last couple of days, couple of weeks.
01:10 All right, gang, we have arrived home with our boy
01:14 and I'm gonna introduce him to the rest of the family.
01:17 But he's a sweet boy, he's happy to be home.
01:19 You wanna come say hi to him?
01:22 Can you get up for me, bud?
01:25 He had a really hard time standing up.
01:27 You all right, big guy?
01:30 Shiloh, did you give Henry a kiss on his head?
01:33 Let me see you do that again.
01:34 When you tried to move him, he was in pain.
01:41 How you doing, bud?
01:48 But it was literally after that first night of sleep.
01:51 Good morning, baby boy.
01:52 He kind of popped awake and was like,
01:54 okay, I can do this.
01:56 This is good.
01:58 And surprisingly, he just got better almost by the hour.
02:04 So we're here at the vet, we're just dropping him off
02:11 and they're gonna remove that testicular cancer.
02:14 Hi, my boy, my boy.
02:17 Our boy is overly excited to see me
02:21 and doing very, very, very, very well.
02:24 It was a pretty radical turnaround.
02:30 Every day he would add something to his repertoire.
02:33 Big jump.
02:36 One morning he just followed me up the stairs.
02:39 You wanna go up the stairs, buddy?
02:43 Yeah, dude.
02:44 Come on, buddy.
02:47 Come on, buddy.
02:48 Come on, buddy.
02:49 Yeah, dude.
02:50 Yeah, dude.
02:51 Way to go.
02:52 Come here.
02:54 Yeah, dude.
02:58 Yeah, buddy.
02:59 Good job, man.
03:00 Way to go, buddy.
03:03 Morning, baby boy.
03:04 Every morning he'd do this little gallop.
03:07 What's up, bud?
03:08 Look at you running around.
03:10 Look at you running around.
03:13 Look at this guy go.
03:15 And then every day that gallop would get a little bit more.
03:17 Look at you, bud.
03:20 He'd get a little more rambunctious than he did.
03:22 Starts to do a little circle in the yard.
03:24 So excited.
03:25 He's got one move.
03:28 He's got the paw.
03:29 That's how he can strike directly at the empathy cord.
03:35 I think the key variable to Henry's success
03:39 is just being part of the family.
03:40 You just give him some love.
03:43 Maybe he wasn't much of a part of his last family,
03:47 but you can tell whenever he'd see me,
03:49 he would kind of perk up.
03:51 Look at you, bud.
03:52 You're like a different dog, man.
03:55 Look at you, bud.
03:57 Look at you go.
03:58 Are you kidding me?
03:59 He was just totally reborn.
04:02 So about a month and a half in,
04:09 we realized he's not just a couple days
04:11 or a couple of weeks hospice dog.
04:17 And believe it or not,
04:18 we started to get adoption applications for him.
04:20 Folks know that he's heading towards the end of his life.
04:23 A lot of folks wonder how you bring an animal
04:28 into your life and then let it go.
04:30 And it is challenging and you do fall in love,
04:34 but it's very easy to delineate
04:36 between the value of keeping him in our family
04:39 and letting him go.
04:40 We already have our next foster dog coming.
04:44 His name's Dancer.
04:46 (Dancer growls)
04:47 Henry, we're home.
04:48 What'll happen is he'll get to go spend
04:51 his remaining days with his family
04:53 and get to give them a whole bunch of love.
04:56 He's gonna go out of this world surrounded by love,
05:00 which is all we could ever ask for.
05:02 He has made our lives richer while we've had him.
05:05 And he's going to make the lives
05:08 of those who adopt him richer.
05:10 Hi, Henry.
05:13 Here's the other guys, here's the other guys.
05:16 (Dancer growls)
05:18 (dog barks)
