00:00 The Department of Education has now launched the revised K-10 curriculum
00:05 where the teaching of GMRC or Good Manners and Right Conduct is reversed to the students.
00:12 Kenneth Paciente has more.
00:14 After two years of re-review, the Education Department has formally launched the revised K-10 curriculum
00:24 or the K-12 program's revised curriculum.
00:27 In this new curriculum, the learning competencies are reduced so that the students are not loaded.
00:34 The Fed will give greater emphasis on the development of foundational skills
00:40 such as literacy, numeracy, and social, economic, emotional skills to our Kinder to Grade 3 learners.
00:48 Under the current curriculum, the learning competencies are only 3,664
00:54 compared to the previous 11,000 in the current curriculum.
00:58 Learning competencies must be age-appropriate.
01:02 When adults expect young children to master skills for which the necessary maturity has not yet been formed,
01:09 we are impairing healthy brain development by excessively stressing the child.
01:16 If pushed and rushed, a child's desire to learn will be hampered.
01:21 The revised K-10 curriculum also includes the strengthening of 21st century skills of students
01:28 as well as peace education.
01:30 This includes the new "Makabansa" subject and the return of Good Manners and Right Conduct or GMRC.
01:38 But one of the highlights of the Matatag curriculum is the reduction of the "Asignatura Depende" in Baitang.
01:44 The Matatag curriculum for Grade 1 has shifted from offering 7 learning areas to only 5
01:52 that focus on strengthening literacy and numeracy.
01:56 New learning areas, language, reading and literacy, and "Makabansa" are introduced.
02:04 These learning areas have been deliberately crafted rather than simply merging or integrating the existing learning areas.
02:13 The Matatag curriculum will be implemented in the schools for the school year 2024-2025 in Kinder,
02:21 Grades 1, 4, and 3; Grades 2, 5, and 6 in the school year 2025-2026;
02:29 and Grades 3, 6, and 9 in the next school year while Grade 10 in the school year 2027-2028.
02:37 But the training of education stakeholders for this will start soon.
02:42 It demands the extraordinary dedication, commitment, support, and resolve of our education stakeholders.
02:54 I call on all teachers and all school officials across the country to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of the program.
03:07 Currently, the DepEd is reviewing the curriculum for Grades 11 and 12 and its target is to be completed as soon as possible.
03:15 Kenneth, patient for the people.
