Biden Plans Vietnam Trip to Strengthen Asian Ties and Challenge China's Influence
  • 9 months ago
President Joe Biden has announced plans to visit Vietnam to strengthen U.S. relations with Asian nations and counter China's influence, according to Bloomberg. At a Democratic fundraiser in New Mexico, Biden emphasized Vietnam's desire to upgrade their relationship to a partnership, citing an upcoming Camp David event with South Korea and Japan as a positive global change. The U.S. has recognized Vietnam as a key ally in advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region, as affirmed by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen during her meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Since establishing U.S.-Vietnam trade relations in 2007, there has been substantial growth, especially following the Trump administration's tariffs on China.
