Discussing Sheffield Wednesday's late win over Stockport County

00:00 Good evening everybody, Joe Cran from the Sheffield Star here. Sheffield Wednesday are

00:03 through to the second round of the Carabao Cup. It wasn't pretty for large parts, it

00:07 wasn't even that good but thanks to a late, late, late Tyreek Backenson equaliser and

00:14 then a perfect penalty shootout from Sheffield Wednesday, they have beaten Stockport County.

00:20 Like I said, it was a tough game for Wednesday. Six debutants, well six full debuts should

00:25 I say. Seven changes from the side that played against Southampton the other night. So I

00:30 think it was always going to be a lack of fluidity. A lot of these boys have barely

00:35 trained together, let alone played. So I think that was always, that has to be part of the

00:40 caveat, it has to be mentioned that this is not a free-flowing team just yet. At all.

00:45 I spoke to Patrisco just now after the game and he said that he wasn't too disappointed

00:52 with large areas of what happened. He liked the mentality that they showed to get back

00:57 into it and win the game. But he did say that he was disappointed with the fact that Wednesday

01:03 were conceding goals early again. They've done it in the last two games and he's just

01:12 not happy with that. He said it's something they need to fix very, very quickly. So I

01:16 do think that from a Chisco perspective he'll be looking to try and make changes and have

01:24 some talks with the team that will try and cut out those early goals being conceded.

01:29 He said that he doesn't want to be fighting an uphill battle every game because they concede

01:33 early. So that's the main takeaways. But it is worth mentioning as well, Marvin Johnson

01:39 was just left out, that was a selection thing. Michael Smith was due to start, he was going

01:44 to play tonight but he had to pull out late due to a bit of a sickness bug. Malik Wootz

01:49 was missing because of a minor complaint apparently. So we'll have to wait and see what happens

01:54 with Malik and Michael Smith. But it does sound like with Marvin Johnson he's fine,

01:59 he just wasn't selected. So it's a long old season, I think everybody will play their

02:03 part in some way, shape or form. We saw another youngster come on today, Sean Vecira, he's

02:09 been a big part of pre-season. He was brought on in the second half as Williams were chasing

02:14 a goal. Callum Paterson came on, Josh Windlass came on, they both really injected some urgency

02:20 into the game. I thought Paterson especially was really, really good tonight when he came

02:24 on. And yeah, Backenson came on, got a very, very scrappy equaliser it might be said. Windlass's

02:30 penalty was great, Paterson's was very, very solid. But Bannon Penenck had his way in which

02:35 you could feel the shortage of breath as he dinked that one. And obviously Lee Gregory

02:41 finished the job as well. Probably a bit harsh on Stockport County in the end, I thought

02:45 they deserved to probably take the win with the way they played, the way they battled

02:49 and the way they held on for the bulk of the game. But that's not how football works and

02:54 Wednesday are through so they'll be in the hat for the next round and we'll see what
