We can skate safely all winter thanks to new floodlights
Blackpool Gazette

The skate park at Stanley Park is getting brand new floodlights, meaning people can use the area all year round.
It will make a big difference during winter - when it's usually dark when skaters finish school or work.

As soon as we get into winter when we've got early loss of light at half three, four o'clock
00:06
in the afternoon, the lighting will be the difference between people using it or not.
00:11
So it just opens up the usage.
00:12
It gives everybody a chance that you're home from school, you're home from college, you're
00:16
home from work, you can still get out and have a skate because it's going to be safe
00:21
too.
00:22
It'll also increase the whole safety aspect of the skate park.
00:28
Nobody wants to hang around somewhere dark at night.
00:30
There are people about that shouldn't be.
00:32
Put some lights on, keeps them people away.
00:35
One of the biggest funders that we had for the skate park was Sport England, so they
00:39
granted £150,000 towards this.
00:42
And one of the requirements of that funding was that we looked at lighting for the park.
00:46
So we knew we had to look at that, but the costs involved in that were significant.
00:51
So we've had to do additional fundraising, working closely with Blackpool Council as
00:54
well, so we managed to get an additional £10,000 from the Police and Crime Commissioner for
00:59
Lancashire towards the lighting, and then Blackpool Council are very good to have...
01:03
And the Tesco's Bag for Life.
01:05
Tesco's Bag for Life and remaining funds that we had from the other fundraising.
01:09
There's six stanchions going up, three across this end and three across the far end, which
01:16
should, we're told, light up the whole skate park and the solar power.
01:20
And the planning permission's in for them now, and as far as we're aware, as soon as
01:25
the planning permission is granted, let's hope it is, don't see why not, we've already
01:28
got lighting elsewhere, that everything should roll and be working before next winter.
