00:00 Despite the upcoming floods in the country,
00:02 the Sugar Regulatory Administration has no evidence
00:06 to raise the price of sugar.
00:08 Joshua Garcia with the details.
00:10 Rise and shine, Joshua.
00:11 The Sugar Regulatory Administration
00:17 has stated that consumers should not worry
00:20 about the price of sugar
00:21 despite the bad weather.
00:24 Unlike vegetables and other agricultural products
00:27 that increase in price during rainy season,
00:30 SRA Administrator and CEO Paul Luis Azcona explained
00:34 that there is no reason to raise the price of sugar
00:37 even in the coming months
00:38 despite the upcoming floods in the country.
00:41 At the moment, the rain is still welcome
00:45 because some of the sugarcane is still growing.
00:48 So rest assured, so far,
00:49 this will not affect our sugar supply as of the moment.
00:52 For the consuming public,
00:54 there is actually no reason
00:55 for the retail prices to go up at the moment.
00:59 Our supply is really okay, both raw and refined.
01:02 Azcona added that the price of sugar per kilo
01:06 is still stable at P85.
01:07 And if there is any change here,
01:09 it is not that big.
01:10 It depends on the brand that sells it.
01:14 According to SRA,
01:15 there is no need to worry about the expected effect of aluminum
01:18 on crops, particularly in the province of Negros.
01:21 According to Azcona,
01:22 this has no direct effect, especially if it is the rainy season.
01:25 At the same time, the agency's mitigation efforts
01:29 are being continuously ensured on how to prepare for some situations
01:32 that can have a negative effect due to the changing weather,
01:35 particularly in the production of sugar.
01:37 We are trying our best to come out with an accurate weather forecasting as well.
01:41 And we are checking effects of weather on productivity.
01:45 So that's all part of the El Nino mitigation program.
01:48 We also have the shallow wells program, solar pumps,
01:53 and other mitigation factors including cloud seeding.
01:56 Meanwhile, SRA also clarified its position
01:59 on the issue of stopping the increase in sugar prices
02:02 that could lead to a decrease in demand,
02:04 where stakeholders are asking for a uniform tax increase
02:09 not only for sugar, but for all kinds of sweeteners.
02:13 Joshua Garcia for the Morning Show of the Philippine Rising Shine.
