00:00 India's been reeling under skyrocketing prices of vegetables, especially tomatoes, for weeks
00:08 now.
00:09 But for people in Karnataka, announcements of price hikes across other essential sectors
00:14 has come as a root shock.
00:15 On August 1st, prices of items like vegetables and milk, hotel and restaurant services in
00:20 the state shot up.
00:21 Today, we travelled across Bengaluru to know how people are dealing with the constant price
00:25 rise in the state.
00:49 Nandini milk is now costlier by 3 rupees.
00:52 The Karnataka state cabinet approved the decision on July 27th.
00:55 The last revision of milk prices was done in November 2022.
00:58 Here's a list of revised prices.
01:14 When we asked people about how they are managing expenses amid price rise, this is what they
01:30 said.
01:41 Karnataka
02:03 Deputy Chief Minister D.K.
02:04 Shivkumar earlier said the government wants to help dairy farmers by increasing retail
02:08 milk prices as it is lower in Karnataka when compared to other states.
02:13 Not just milk.
02:14 Karnataka has been witnessing a surge in vegetable prices due to erratic monsoons for more than
02:19 a month now.
02:20 Vegetables that we use on a day-to-day basis are being sold at exorbitant prices.
02:25 There seems to be no break for people from the rising price of tomatoes.
02:28 The price of tomatoes has touched 200 rupees per kg in some parts of Karnataka.
02:33 In Chamaraspet market in Bengaluru, tomatoes were priced between 140 to 160 rupees a kilogram.
02:40 Along with tomatoes, ginger prices too have hit an all-time high of 250 to 300 rupees
02:45 per kg in the retail market.
02:47 If some consumers and sellers said there is no way out of this, some blamed the newly
02:51 elected Congress government.
03:13 Noting the significant price in essential commodities in the recent months, hoteliers
03:32 too have decided to revise their food prices.
03:34 On average, the cost of all food items at hotels will increase by around 10 percent
03:39 with effect from August 1.
03:41 Some hotels have already implemented the price revision.
04:09 Apart from food and food items, the Karnataka government has also decided to increase bus
04:13 fares by 2 to 5 rupees effective from today.
04:16 This comes weeks after the Siddharamayya government announced free bus services for women in the
04:21 state under the Shakti scheme.
04:26 Thank you.
