Simon Collings previews England v China
Transcript
00:00 Hello and welcome here from Adelaide where we just heard from Serena Vigman and Georgia
00:04 Stanway, head of England's game with China tomorrow. And we were hoping we were going
00:09 to get some clarity on what the situation is with Kiera Walsh. Obviously she got injured
00:13 in Friday's win over Denmark, went off in a stretcher. The initial fears from everyone,
00:17 you know, those of us in the stadium, was that this is another ACL injury which has
00:20 been a real problem for the women's game. We've heard that's not the case, but we don't
00:24 know when she's going to be back. She's definitely going to miss tomorrow night's game. That
00:27 much was clear in the FA statement, but when Vigman was pushed multiple times today in
00:31 the press conference about when Walsh would play, when she'd be back for the rest of the
00:34 tournament, she simply said she was focusing on tomorrow's game against China. So it's
00:38 a case of waiting to see what happens with Walsh and when she might play again in the
00:41 tournament, if at all. As for Vigman and Stanway, they were both, other than the questions around
00:47 Walsh, in a pretty good mood. For England, the equation is pretty simple for them tomorrow
00:51 night. If they get a draw, they will top the group and that's what they want. They'll have
00:55 the better draw for the last 16, play the runners-up from Group A and they'll also play
01:00 in Brisbane in the last 16 and then from the quarter-semis and final they will stay in
01:03 Sydney, which is also a benefit for them. Vigman did speak, though, about the situation
01:09 of not having Walsh for tomorrow night's game. It does mean she's got to change her plans,
01:13 the way she wants to think of it. Georgia Stanway, who we heard from, is probably the
01:17 most likely to try and replicate what Keira Walsh does and then Laura Coombs should come
01:21 into that midfield too.
