00:00 With over 600 horse breeds in the world currently,
00:02 we can only appreciate the unique charm,
00:04 character and diversity each brings to the fold.
00:07 You'd agree each horse breed is pretty in its own way,
00:10 but certain extraordinary breeds make you go,
00:12 "Wow!" at first sight.
00:14 And as the saying goes,
00:16 beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
00:18 Therefore, we believe every creature
00:19 is beautiful and special.
00:21 We've only put together a list of horse species
00:23 we believe to be the most super gorgeous
00:25 in the Inquine world.
00:27 The following are the most incredible
00:28 and elegant horse breeds out there,
00:30 and each is a marvel to behold.
00:33 20, Knobstrooper.
00:36 The kickoff of today's video is a species
00:40 that can be referred to as the Dalmatians
00:42 of the Inquine world.
00:43 This elegant breed has quite a colorful history.
00:46 The first known Knobstrooper
00:47 was a chestnut mare named Flyape.
00:50 Although her origin was unknown,
00:52 many believe she originated from Spanish horses.
00:55 Famed for its unique leopard-like spots,
00:57 the Knobstrooper has a color gene
00:59 known as the leopard complex.
01:01 The only other horse breed that has the same gene
01:04 is the Appaloosa.
01:06 Interestingly, both species are not directly related
01:08 in any way, with the Danish Knobstrooper
01:11 only coming to America in 2002.
01:14 It wasn't until the 19th century
01:16 that the breed began to gain prominence
01:18 for its elegance and beauty.
01:20 But the turn of the century
01:21 brought a bit of misfortune to the breed
01:23 as a fire outbreak killed 22 of the breeding Knobstroopers.
01:27 Drastically reducing the population
01:29 of these pure, beautiful horses.
01:31 Luckily, they survived the extinction scare
01:33 and now they're trotting strong.
01:35 19, Percheron.
01:39 Originally used as war horses
01:42 in the former Perche province of Western France,
01:45 the Percheron is regarded
01:47 as the heavyweight champion of the horses.
01:50 Eventually, they were drafted into more domestic work
01:52 like assisting on the farm by hauling heavy cargo.
01:56 However, even though we know they were bred in Perche,
01:59 little is known about how the breeding process took place.
02:02 Basically, no one knows who the original
02:04 Papa and Mama Percheron was.
02:06 Percherons usually don a majestic white or color
02:09 and are truly a sight to behold.
02:11 They might look all muscles,
02:13 but these horses are relatively delicate
02:15 and agile for a draft horse.
02:17 Their agility is attributed to the addition
02:20 of the Arabian gene at the turn of the century.
02:22 More about the Arabian horses later in the video.
02:25 They're a pretty remarkable breed.
02:27 Trust me, most of the draft horses in France are Percherons.
02:31 Their even-keeled temperament makes them ideal
02:33 for riders of all levels,
02:35 as long as they don't mind riding a big horse.
02:37 18, Halflinger.
02:41 With a name that rhymes with gunslinger,
02:45 halflingers are just as awesome as they are therapeutic.
02:49 These horses can be recognized anywhere
02:51 by their trademark chestnut coloring.
02:53 All halflingers have this color,
02:55 but slight variations in the shades,
02:58 ranging from pale to dark-livered chestnut.
03:00 However, they all have a pale mane and tail.
03:03 They're believed to have been originated in Austria
03:06 and Northern Italy from the cross
03:07 between a native Tyrolean mare and a half-Arabian stallion.
03:11 The idea was to produce a versatile breed
03:13 that's ideal for agricultural work
03:15 as well as driving and riding.
03:17 And boy, did they create a beast.
03:21 First, the Australian army used the halflinger
03:23 as they needed a sure-footed companion on the rough terrains.
03:27 Later, during the Second World War,
03:30 hundreds of them were confiscated for war
03:32 to be used as war horses and supply horses.
03:36 They are the soundest, healthiest breed of all the equines.
03:39 Naturally, therefore, they have the longest lifespan.
03:42 No surprise there.
03:43 One of their more laudable occupations in recent times
03:47 is being used for equine-assisted therapy.
03:49 These fabulous, calm, kind-natured, smooth-gated horses
03:53 are all-rounders and they're ideal for a variety of work.
03:56 17, Falabella.
04:01 Not all horses are big, strong, and look intimidating.
04:06 Some, like the Falabella, are just as magnificent
04:09 but small in size.
04:10 The Falabella is one of the rarest
04:12 and smallest breeds in the world.
04:14 They are so small they couldn't even be classified
04:18 as a pony, but under the miniature family.
04:21 They may be small, but they have a tremendous pedigree,
04:24 developed by special selective breeding
04:26 for most of the 1800s in South America.
04:30 The breed has gone through several phases of inbreeding
04:33 before arriving at its present size.
04:35 The breed was named after Julio Falabella, who created them.
04:39 The average Falabella is black or bay in color,
04:42 while some have also been known to have spotted patterns.
04:45 Because of their small size,
04:47 they are only reserved to be ridden by children.
04:50 That, coupled with their cool, calm temperament,
04:53 makes them ideal pets to have around kids.
04:55 - Someone's gonna...
04:59 (yells)
05:01 - 16, Marwari.
05:06 Next up, we got the unique Marwari.
05:10 Marwaris are a beautiful horse breed
05:12 native to northwestern India and some parts of Pakistan.
05:16 But you know what stands out about the Marwari?
05:19 Its unique set of inward-curving ears,
05:21 closely related to Katawari horses,
05:24 with which they share this exotic feature.
05:27 The Marwari is known to have exceptional hearing.
05:30 These horses are so rare,
05:31 we'd forgive you for not having seen one.
05:34 The Pakistani and Indian governments
05:35 consider them a national treasure,
05:37 and as such, there are strict laws
05:39 to prohibit them from being exported.
05:41 So getting one if you're outside this region
05:44 is no easy feat.
05:45 In times past, owning a Marwari was a privilege
05:48 reserved only for the royalty and nobility.
05:51 To date, the horses are treated as a member of the family,
05:54 often wearing tack adorned with jewels.
05:56 These fearless, sturdy, elegant, loyal, friendly,
05:59 and easy-to-ride horses were valued war horses
06:02 due to their bravery and excellent ability
06:04 to find their way home.
06:06 I could go on and on about these remarkable horses,
06:09 but I feel I've said enough about them already.
06:12 So let's look at the next breed.
06:14 15, Mangalarga Marchador.
06:18 From one special breed,
06:19 we move to the national horse of Brazil,
06:22 none other than the Mangalarga Marchador.
06:25 You obviously saw the heading.
06:27 Like the Marwari, this is another breed
06:29 that has been kept secret from most of us.
06:32 They're believed to have been descended directly
06:34 from the Iberian stock,
06:35 with over half a million of them spread across the globe.
06:39 These native Brazilians have won the hearts of many
06:41 with their smooth gait, beauty, intelligence,
06:44 gentleness, and versatility.
06:46 Mangalarga Marchador is one of the few horses
06:49 known not to trot.
06:51 Instead, they have four different gaits,
06:53 the marcha picada, the marcha, the canter, and the walk.
06:58 All these different gaits mean that the breed
07:00 always has one or more hooves on the ground,
07:02 guaranteeing a smooth, comfortable ride.
07:05 Most Mangalarga Marchadors are gray in color,
07:09 but there are also black, chestnut,
07:11 palominos, and pinto ones.
07:13 Another interesting fact about them
07:15 is that they hold the Guinness World Record
07:17 for completing the longest endurance ride ever,
07:19 set in 1994.
07:21 We're talking 8,694 miles of the stamina test riding.
07:26 Incredible.
07:28 14, Pasafino.
07:31 The Pasafino is one breed
07:34 that will leave you enchanted at first sight.
07:37 These beautiful horses have some
07:38 of the most alluring coats you'll ever see.
07:40 They also have quite impressive lush mane and tails.
07:44 Originally from the Dominican Republic,
07:46 they were brought to America
07:47 by the great Christopher Columbus during his exploration.
07:50 He's also credited for naming the breed.
07:53 The present-day Pasafino resulted from inbreeding
07:56 between the Spanish genet, Andalusian, and barb horses.
08:00 They are noted for their natural four-beat ambling gait.
08:03 You could ride onto these for hours
08:05 and not feel any back pain.
08:07 You can find them in various colors,
08:09 from white, gray, black, to bay and chestnut.
08:12 In addition, they have a distinct flowing
08:14 and long mane and tail.
08:16 These well-behaved, intelligent, and versatile horses
08:19 are suitable for all age group riders
08:21 and can be used for trail riding,
08:23 barrel racing, as well as show rings.
08:25 13, Cobb.
08:29 If you need a medium-sized with a sturdy build
08:34 and a warm nature, then the Cobb horse is what you need.
08:37 Even though the Cobb horse isn't really classified
08:39 as a horse breed, it's a type of horse.
08:42 Pretty confusing, right?
08:44 Well, it's been said that for a horse
08:46 to be classified as a Cobb, it must have short legs
08:49 with quality substance and bone,
08:51 able to convey substantial weights,
08:54 and must be gentle enough to be ridden
08:56 by elderly and nervous riders.
08:58 Other physical attributes include a shapely neck,
09:01 generous eyes, well-defined wither,
09:03 and a well-muscled body.
09:04 The Cobb horse is one breed you're lucky
09:06 to have around today.
09:08 These beautiful horses were once sent to war
09:10 and most of them died in battle,
09:12 which led to a major decline in their population.
09:15 Luckily, their population was resuscitated
09:18 because of the rise in luxury riding
09:20 in the mid-20th century, and they've been used
09:22 primarily for leisure riding ever since.
09:25 The choice riding horse in the UK,
09:27 these horses have intelligent eyes, short ears,
09:30 and a head bigger than a pony's,
09:32 even though they are taller than ponies,
09:34 but taller than the average pony.
09:36 12, Gypsy Vanner.
09:40 Remember when I told you the Cobb isn't really a horse type,
09:44 they're more of a type than breed?
09:46 Well, the Gypsy Vanner is one of such Cobb-type horses,
09:50 and this horse is characterized by the long,
09:52 flowing feather on the legs
09:54 and their usual black and white colored coat.
09:57 They are the horses of the Irish travelers,
09:59 and they can be found in most places in Ireland
10:01 and the British Isles.
10:03 The Gypsy Vanner is considered a relatively new breed,
10:06 with the official registry founded in 1996.
10:10 However, there have been counter reports
10:12 that they have been around since the Second World War.
10:15 They claim some Gypsy Vanner was specifically bred
10:17 for this war and has been around since then.
10:20 Gypsy Vanner is thought to be the successor
10:23 of the colored Shire Horse, which the Romani selected
10:26 to be used for pulling their wagons.
10:28 Did you know Gypsy Vanner had mustaches?
10:31 Yep, they have funny little mustaches.
10:34 These beautiful giants are reputable members
10:36 of the Romani family.
10:38 Today, they're being used in the carriage
10:39 of the Romani travelers.
10:41 They're also a perfect child pony
10:43 and are occasionally ridden in amateur competitions.
10:45 11, Orlov Trotter.
10:48 Named after its fast trot, which is hereditary,
10:53 the Orlov Trotter is known for its remarkable stamina
10:56 and speed, coupled with its attractive, strokeable coats.
11:00 They are Russia's choice horse,
11:02 developed by Count Alexei Orlov,
11:04 so you can piece together how the name came about.
11:07 This remarkable breed has been through a lot,
11:09 from wars to cultural changes,
11:12 they've been to the brink of extinction and back.
11:15 A lot of careful breeding went into creating this beauty
11:18 with exceptional versatility and temperament.
11:21 Along with their excellence, great health conditions,
11:24 and ability to go above and beyond
11:26 that of many other breeds, they look exquisite
11:29 and have a wonderful personality to match,
11:31 making them turn the heads of anyone fond of horses.
11:34 Orlov Trotter majorly has white coats upon maturity,
11:38 while some are black bay and very few remain chestnut.
11:42 10, Black Forest Horse.
11:46 Where else could you get a horse
11:49 named the Black Forest Horse, if not from the Black Forest?
11:53 As the name hints on, these horses originated
11:55 from the Black Forest region of Germany.
11:58 The most fascinating part of their appearance
12:00 has gotta be their flaxen mane,
12:02 which stands out from their chestnut coat.
12:05 You just can't resist admiring these horses.
12:08 Built to be strong, resilient, working horses,
12:11 this breed was so loved by native farmers,
12:14 they named them the Pearls of the Black Forest.
12:16 This working breed has been around for centuries,
12:19 with its origin being traced back
12:21 to as early as the 15th century.
12:23 Dubbed the golden retriever of the horses,
12:26 due to their incredible patience and temperament,
12:28 they're an ideal choice for first-timers
12:31 and novice horse owners.
12:32 Their ancestors were originally used
12:35 in agriculture and forestry,
12:37 but today, the breed is a famous all-rounder
12:39 for both riding and driving.
12:41 They are currently under the endangered status
12:43 and are protected under strict laws by the German government.
12:46 9, Nucra.
12:50 Say hello to the all-white version of the Marwari.
12:55 Seriously, don't they look like what you'd get
12:57 if you painted a Marwari horse white?
12:59 Especially with the ears.
13:01 Well, the Nucra is quite different from the Marwari.
13:04 They are a man-made breed that took over 70 years
13:06 of selective breeding to achieve.
13:09 The result, a breed that has ears of Marwari
13:12 and the body confirmation of the Arabian breed.
13:14 These gorgeous white horses are mostly seen
13:17 in the Punjab region of Pakistan,
13:19 and some in Rajasthan and Maharashtra in India.
13:22 Extensively used in marriage functions
13:25 and religious ceremonies,
13:27 this breed is also kept by enthusiasts
13:29 and an emblem of nobility and status symbol.
13:32 As expected, the debate of whether the Nucra
13:34 is just a white glorified Marwari
13:37 or its own breed is pretty fierce.
13:40 Some claim any Nucra with exceptional confirmation
13:43 can be counted as Marwari,
13:45 while others deny it,
13:46 claiming the Nucra is a breed on its own
13:48 regardless of its confirmation.
13:51 But there hasn't been a recognized body
13:53 that has come out to put the issue to bed.
13:55 Hopefully they will, after watching this video.
13:58 Eight, the Chocolate Silver Dapple.
14:02 You've got to admire such an elegant name
14:06 given to one of the most beautiful horses on the planet.
14:09 The silver in its name explains a gene
14:11 that occurs in black horses.
14:13 You see, any horse with these genes
14:15 passes it along to its foals.
14:17 So instead of having a black coat,
14:19 the foal inherits a dark coat featuring silver dappling.
14:23 This uniqueness is not particular
14:25 to any specific horse breed.
14:27 Just about any horse breed can have it.
14:29 Therefore, this beautiful horse type
14:31 is composed of several breeds
14:33 and is found in many places.
14:35 Seven, Boulogne's Horse.
14:38 This is an elegant French breed
14:41 famed for its unique marble coat,
14:43 which is why they are also called the White Marble Horse.
14:46 The Boulogne's Horse is the best draft horse in the world
14:49 and as such they've been used by breeders
14:51 to improve the characteristics of different breeds.
14:55 Their history dates back to the Crusaders' time
14:57 and they've served man in various capacities since then.
15:01 Just as their rare color,
15:03 the Boulogne's Horse has a distinctive body conformation.
15:06 They are blessed with short, elegant heads,
15:09 kind, lovely eyes, short, muscular necks,
15:12 sloping shoulders, soft and silky skin,
15:15 strong legs with clean joints,
15:18 nicely rounded rib cages and double manes,
15:21 heavy luxurious tails and croups.
15:24 Like every other draft horse,
15:25 the Boulogne's Horse is gentle,
15:27 playful, challenging, social, docile and alert.
15:31 Six, Andalusian.
15:34 The Andalusian makes it to the list
15:37 thanks to its beautiful coat,
15:39 robust and elegant gait and long, flowing mane and tail.
15:43 Along with its beauty and panaché,
15:45 the Andalusian has a long history.
15:47 In fact, some people believe an image
15:49 discovered on the wall of one of the prehistoric caves
15:52 is that of the Andalusian,
15:53 unless it was a breed that looks very much like it.
15:57 The image is estimated to be at least 20,000 years old.
16:00 The Andalusian Horse originated on the Iberian Peninsula
16:04 and are named after the province of Andalusia.
16:07 They were favored as military horses
16:09 and were initially war horses
16:11 for their endurance, speed and agility.
16:13 They can also be found in horse breeding competitions,
16:16 show jumping or trail rides.
16:18 They are amazing companion horses
16:20 for those who love leisure riding.
16:22 Also, they can accommodate both newbies
16:24 and seasoned equestrians.
16:26 Five, Arabian.
16:29 Now for the much talked about Arabian horse.
16:33 This breed is well-known and respected
16:35 and you must have heard me mention them
16:37 a couple of times already in this video.
16:39 And if you ask many horse enthusiasts
16:41 to list their favorite horse breeds,
16:43 they'd most certainly include the Arabian horse.
16:46 The Arabian horse is probably the horse
16:48 that pops in your head any time you imagine
16:50 a horse trotting in the desert.
16:53 Their regal, arched back, fine bone structure,
16:56 flowing mane and tail make them an easy pick
16:59 for any horse pageantry, if there were ever to be one.
17:02 These high-spirited horses date back as far as 3000 BC,
17:06 which places them in the ballpark
17:08 of most ancient breeds in the world.
17:10 They have the potential to excel in almost any discipline,
17:13 thanks to their outstanding stamina,
17:15 especially in endurance sports.
17:18 The Arabian bloodline can be found
17:20 in most modern horse breeds,
17:21 because they were used to add
17:23 extra resilience and refinement.
17:25 The most notable people to own an Arabian horse
17:28 are George Washington and Alexander the Great.
17:31 So those of you that own this truest breed
17:34 are in a very enviable company.
17:39 Four, Clydesdale.
17:40 Best known for its role
17:43 in the ever-popular Budweiser commercial,
17:46 the Clydesdale horse is known for its thick, white blaze,
17:49 flowing feathers and docile temperament.
17:52 The alluring horse breed originated
17:54 from the Clyde River Valley in Lonnarkshire, Scotland,
17:57 and only made international appearances
17:59 after being exported to Australia, New Zealand,
18:02 and the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries,
18:05 where they became popular farm animals.
18:08 In their native Lonnarkshire,
18:09 these horses were initially bred
18:11 and are still used for agriculture and forestry,
18:14 and those not into forestry and agriculture
18:16 enjoy riding on them as they move great in harness
18:19 and are easy to train.
18:21 They and shires have been used for the honor
18:23 of parading in royal ceremonies as drum horses.
18:27 Three, Lipizaner.
18:29 There aren't as many horses as multi-talented
18:33 as the sturdy Lipizaner.
18:35 These horses were basically bred to impress humans.
18:38 In fact, Mozart composed music for the Lipizaner,
18:41 and several well-dressed audiences would turn
18:43 to see them strut their stuff
18:45 to the latest tunes of the Grand Carousel,
18:48 which took place early at the Spanish riding school
18:51 in Vienna in the 1700s.
18:53 You see, these horses were sent to school
18:56 when they were four years old
18:57 and are usually fully trained and ready to perform
19:00 by the time that they're 10.
19:02 Besides dressage, Lipizaners can be trained
19:05 in show jumping and eventing due to their athletic build.
19:09 Originally, Lipizaner was created by a stud farm
19:12 in the Austrian Empire in the 16th century.
19:15 Today, however, they've become
19:16 the national horse of Slovenia.
19:19 It's interesting to know that all Lipizaner horses
19:21 are born black and mature into a light gray color.
19:25 Although extremely rare,
19:26 some end up with black, brown, and bay coats.
19:30 (feet stomping)
19:33 Two, Akal Tiki.
19:37 Easily one of the oldest domesticated horse breeds,
19:42 the Akal Tiki has an ancestry that dates to around 6000 BC.
19:46 They were bred for their agility, endurance, and speed,
19:49 which explains why they were used in raids.
19:53 Today, the Akal Tiki is considered by many horse enthusiasts
19:56 as the most beautiful horse breed in the world.
19:58 But trust us when we say our number one
20:00 is even more beautiful.
20:02 Akal Tiki has a metallic-looking coat that shines like gold.
20:06 Why do they have this unique metallic glow?
20:09 Well, this is due to the fact
20:10 that the core of their hair shaft isn't opaque.
20:13 And as such, light reflects off the color
20:16 and creates a sheen that looks metallic.
20:18 Haters have said the Akal Tiki
20:20 is thinly muscled like the Greyhound,
20:22 but others just love how gracious this breed is.
20:26 However, they aren't a breed for learners or first-timers.
20:30 They are best suited for seasoned equestrians.
20:32 They also have a gentle temperament
20:34 and are considered a devoted and loyal one-person breed.
20:37 One, Freesian.
20:40 Now we present to you the most beautiful horse in the world.
20:45 Big, black, beautiful,
20:47 the Freesian horse breed is such a sight to behold.
20:50 These stunning horses are true black beauties
20:52 that have been used for crossbreeding since the 19th century.
20:56 Native to Friesland in the Netherlands,
20:58 these ravishing horses with their striking black coat
21:01 and long, flowing mane
21:03 were originally bred to carry
21:04 medieval European knights into battle.
21:06 And when these horses were no longer needed
21:08 to carry the noble knights in shining armor,

21:14 When workhorses were no longer needed,
21:17 they became famous for their sporting skills.
21:19 They were also used to pull carriages for European royalty
21:23 because of their elegant appearance
21:24 and spectacular movement.
21:26 Talk about adapting to changing times.

21:32 at the turn of the 20th century,
21:34 while only three pure-breeding stallions remained.
21:37 Lucky for us, the Freesian breed survived the scare
21:39 after the Second World War.
21:42 Now strict rules have been put in place
21:44 for anyone who wants to register their Freesian horse.
21:47 Hence, you only see black Freesian horses
21:50 with no white markings,
21:51 with gorgeous flowing manes and tails.
