00:00 - Oh, what does this button do?
00:03 - Excuse me.
00:04 - Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down
00:09 our picks for the top 10 hidden adult jokes
00:12 in popular kids' cartoons.
00:14 (upbeat music)
00:16 - Gary!
00:19 - For this list, we'll be looking at cartoon gags
00:22 and innuendos that only mature audience could understand.
00:26 Which joke flew over your head as a kid?
00:28 Let us know in the comments down below.
00:30 - Hey, Mojoholics.
00:33 For a chance to win cash prizes,
00:35 play our live daily trivia challenges every day
00:38 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern,
00:40 only at watchmojo.com/play.
00:43 - Number 10, "Can't Get a Date," "Justice League."
00:48 - We're a Lutheran, the humanite.
00:49 We couldn't pick up the trail.
00:51 - No biggie, it's just two guys.
00:52 How much trouble can they give us?
00:54 - Even with all the superhero content we get today,
00:56 the DCAU still holds up.
00:59 In fact, the writing only gets better with age.
01:02 That can partly be attributed to innuendos
01:05 we only now understand.
01:07 Take this exchange between Hawk Girl and The Flash.
01:10 As the Scarlet Speedster brags about his heroics,
01:13 Shai'ira remarks that women may not be as impressed
01:17 with his powers.
01:17 - And I had those flames out before the firemen
01:20 even stepped off their trucks.
01:21 - That's fast.
01:23 - Fastest man alive.
01:25 - Which might explain why you can't get a date.
01:27 - Yeah.
01:29 - Hey.
01:30 - Wally may or may have not gotten the hint,
01:33 but hopefully she reminds him that going slow
01:36 once in a while might not be so bad.
01:39 - Relax, lady.
01:41 This will all be over before you know it.
01:42 - Number nine, "Some Light Reading," "Tiny Toon Adventures."
01:47 The Looney Tunes are beloved for wacky antics
01:50 that the whole family can enjoy.
01:52 While they are known for slapstick comedy,
01:54 there are also more subtle jokes that are just as memorable.
01:58 - And welcome to the Acme University Animation Festival.
02:02 Tonight we--
02:02 - Get off the stage, rabbit!
02:04 - Have some great films.
02:06 - In this episode, Bugs and Daffy watch student films
02:09 in a university theater.
02:10 Daffy, however, is more interested in reading a magazine.
02:14 Bug tries to remove the distraction
02:16 only to glance at some pages himself.
02:18 (sad music)
02:22 It's a good bit of silent comedy,
02:25 but look a little closer and you'll see
02:27 that their reading material is of the adult variety.
02:30 The title, "Playduck," probably won't mean anything
02:33 to young viewers, but to us, the joke is obvious.
02:37 - I can't take any more, I've had enough.
02:40 - Yeah, when it comes to cartoons,
02:42 us old timers only have a six minute attention span.
02:45 - Number eight, "Extra Charge," "Dexter's Laboratory."
02:48 After Dexter kicks Dee Dee out of his lab,
02:51 he begins to miss her usual antics.
02:53 In response, he seeks applications for older sisters.
02:57 - Hallelujah, no, sorry, good luck though.
03:00 I don't think it'll work out.
03:02 - When can you start?
03:04 - One of the replacements is a blonde bombshell named Candy.
03:08 She gets the job and does pretty well,
03:11 but when Dexter asks her to dance,
03:12 she tells the young man that it'll cost him an extra fee.
03:16 - Dancing, dancing, yes, dancing, I'd like to see you dance.
03:22 - Okay, but it's 50 bucks extra.
03:25 - Given her exaggerated proportions,
03:28 the implications seem to be that she's an exotic dancer.
03:31 By the end, she leaves Dexter's lab
03:34 after learning that she's not on a TV show.
03:36 We hope that she eventually landed on her feet.
03:39 - TV show, this isn't a TV show.
03:42 I'm a real little boy and this is my lab, I build it.
03:46 Oh, my agent is so fired.
03:49 - Number seven, how old are you, the fairly odd parent?
03:54 For a show about wish fulfillment,
03:55 this joke about growing up is a little dark,
03:59 but it's still pretty funny.
04:00 When Timmy finds a small box in the attic,
04:03 his dad tells him that it's where he stores his dreams
04:05 for safekeeping.
04:06 - What's this little thing sitting on mom's giant hope chest?
04:09 - That, that's my tiny box of dreams.
04:12 - And then Timmy accidentally drops it,
04:14 but dad tells him to not worry
04:16 as his dreams were already destroyed.
04:19 - Don't worry about it, Timmy.
04:20 My dreams were shattered years ago.
04:23 - It's a depressing confession,
04:24 but what he says next is even sadder.
04:27 When Timmy asks him when his dreams were shattered,
04:30 his father tries to recall the age of his son.
04:33 - How old are you?
04:34 - The implications here might have flown
04:36 over our heads as kids, but as adults,
04:39 we find Mr. Turner's question to be kind of messed up.
04:43 Number six, the doctor is in, Rocko's Modern Life.
04:47 This series from the '90s got away
04:49 with a lot of suggestive humor.
04:51 Many of his jokes could only be understood by grownups.
04:55 - Hey, hey, where do you think you're going, stud?
04:58 - Take the scene where Rocko visits Dr. Bendova.
05:02 The name obviously is a risque pun,
05:05 but the joke doesn't stop there.
05:07 The good doctor then examines his patient
05:09 using the turn your head and cough method.
05:11 - I need some medicine.
05:15 Let me run some more tests to find the exact problem.
05:18 Cough, please.
05:19 - It's not until later that we learn
05:23 he wasn't a doctor at all,
05:25 but an escaped patient with mental health issues.
05:28 So Rocko essentially just let a complete stranger
05:31 perform a pretty invasive exam on him.
05:34 - There you go.
05:35 This should do the trick.
05:37 There's one more test to conduct.
05:41 - There's a good chance this plot
05:43 probably wouldn't make it to air today,
05:45 but apparently it was just subtle enough
05:48 to be permitted at the time.
05:50 Number five, SpongeBob and the Sea Anemone,
05:53 SpongeBob SquarePants.
05:55 The titular Sponge is known for his innocent shenanigans,
05:59 but that doesn't stop the writers
06:01 from putting him in adult scenarios.
06:03 - That's not right.
06:04 Ah, get it?
06:05 Not right.
06:07 - In this opening scene,
06:09 SpongeBob watches a sea anemone
06:10 sway into some jazz music on the television.
06:13 He leans in, enjoying the program,
06:16 but as Gary enters the room,
06:17 he quickly changes the channel, looking extremely guilty.
06:20 - Gary!
06:21 I was just looking for the sports channel, Gary.
06:26 - We're not sure what exactly the anemone was really doing,
06:29 but given how embarrassed SpongeBob looks,
06:32 it was clearly pretty racy.
06:34 - I'm in the mood, Gary.
06:36 - Number four, Grandpa's Hippie Days, Hey Arnold.
06:39 This episode of Hey Arnold
06:41 has our protagonist seeking help with his homework.
06:43 He asks Grandpa how to do long division,
06:46 but the latter freaks out,
06:48 revealing that he never finished elementary school.
06:50 - And long division with decimals
06:52 is exactly as far as I got when I was a kid before--
06:56 - Before what?
06:57 - Before I quit, Arnold.
06:59 I never finished the fourth grade.
07:01 - You never finished the fourth grade?
07:03 - Arnold tries to motivate him
07:05 to go back to get his diploma,
07:06 but Grandpa claims that he lost too many brain cells
07:09 at Woodstock, the iconic music festival in 1969.
07:13 - I'm too old, I've lost too many brain cells
07:15 to make it through grade school.
07:17 - You're not too old, Grandpa,
07:19 and you've still got plenty of brain cells.
07:21 - No, not since Woodstock.
07:23 - You can do it, Grandpa.
07:24 - It's a safe assumption that this involved
07:27 illicit substances of some kind or another.
07:30 Makes us wonder what else Grandpa got up to back in the day,
07:34 or maybe we're better off not knowing.
07:37 - What's kicking, lady?
07:38 - Grandpa, where are you going?
07:40 - We're gonna sneak into a PG-13 movie.
07:43 - But you're 81, you can get into a PG-13 movie anytime.
07:47 - Number three, not that kind of accident,
07:49 the Powerpuff Girls.
07:51 It's pretty surprising that a show that seems so innocent
07:54 got away with this many sexual overtones.
07:57 - Hey, stop, stop!
07:59 You're not supposed to be kissing, Dirk!
08:00 - One of its funniest ones can be found
08:02 in the episode "Super Friends."
08:04 When the girls make a new friend in Robin,
08:07 they introduce her to their dad, Professor Utonium.
08:10 Bubbles explains that Utonium created his three daughters
08:13 in a lab accident.
08:14 - Why, hello there, Robin.
08:16 It's very nice to have you as our new neighbor.
08:19 I'm the professor.
08:20 - Yeah, he made us in his laboratory by accident.
08:23 - Robin then reassures him that she was also
08:25 unintentionally created, and the look on his face
08:28 says it all.
08:30 - Don't worry, Professor, I was an accident, too.
08:32 Your dad is funny.
08:35 - This was a pretty unexpected joke
08:37 about surprise pregnancies.
08:39 Good luck to the parents trying to explain
08:41 this one to the kids.
08:42 Number two, "Lost Control," "Rugrats."
08:45 Kids can't fully understand what adults
08:48 go through for them.
08:49 So this joke from the Nickelodeon classic
08:52 has got to be for them.
08:54 When the bratty Angelica fakes a broken leg,
08:57 her uncle Stu looks after her.
08:59 - It's getting kind of stuffy in here again.
09:01 Could you open my window?
09:03 (gentle music)
09:06 - Um, that's a little too open.
09:10 - She then grows mad with power
09:12 and essentially forced him to make her a dessert
09:14 in the wee hours of the morning, no less.
09:17 The comedic bit is capped off by a now iconic
09:21 and relatable line.
09:22 - Why on earth are you making chocolate pudding?
09:24 - Because I've lost control of my life.
09:26 - Miserably getting up late at night
09:28 to placate a loud and spoiled kid
09:31 sounds a lot like adulthood,
09:34 a concept we're sure most of the viewers
09:36 failed to understand at the time.
09:38 - Angelica's fine.
09:40 We can bring her down to take the cast off right away.
09:42 (Stu crying)
09:44 Stu, what's the matter?
09:45 - I'm just so happy.

10:02 Number one, "Fingerprints" Animaniacs.
10:07 This Warner Brothers cartoon is praised
10:10 for its family-friendly humor.
10:11 Adults enjoy it just as much as kids, if not more so.
10:16 - Are you an inspector of the art?
10:18 - Not if you have a dog.
10:19 - That's due to its satire, pop culture references,
10:21 and of course, its subtle innuendos.
10:25 One of his most famous dirty jokes occurs
10:27 when Yakko tells Dot to look for Prince.
10:30 - Number one sister, dust for Prince.
10:33 - She somehow retrieves for him
10:35 the late and great musician, Prince.
10:37 - I found Prince.
10:39 - Yakko then reiterates the request,
10:42 emphasizing the finger in "Fingerprints,"
10:45 which Dot politely refuses to do.
10:48 - No, no, no, "Fingerprints."
10:50 - I don't think so.
10:53 - If you don't get it by now,
10:57 then you are probably too young to.
