00:00 Hello viewers!
00:01 We usually see breed lists either related to dogs or cats, but rarely see lists of other
00:07 creatures.
00:08 And today when I saw a strange chicken, I thought it would be great to bring something
00:13 different on Forever Green for its awesome audience.
00:17 So I researched and found some of the most interesting chicken breeds that exist on our
00:20 planet.
00:22 Before we proceed, let me remind you to hit the subscribe button and press the bell icon
00:26 for regular updates.
00:27 Stay with me for just 5 minutes and I'm sure that you will be amazed at the end.
00:40 Number 1 – The Silver-Laced Polish Chicken
00:43 Silver-Laced Polish Chickens are from the Polish Chicken family and it is one of the
00:47 most beautiful chickens in the world.
00:49 This breed was thought to have originally come from the Netherlands but got its name
00:53 when it was transported from Poland and produced in England.
00:56 They are widely known for their crazy top hat of feathers on their heads and this very
01:02 old domesticated breed of poultry is mentioned as early as the 16th century in history.
01:08 Breeders have worked for years to perfect the black lacing in the feathers.
01:12 They have beautiful crests and tall, lean bodies.
01:15 These hens lay small white eggs and can be used as egg layers, but they are better suited
01:20 to be exhibition birds because of their beauty.
01:23 Number 2 – I Am Seimani
01:26 On second spot we have the most unusual colored chicken.
01:30 There are lots of animals having black color but not a chicken like this one.
01:35 I Am Seimani is a completely black bird not just from the outside but from the inside
01:40 too.
01:41 From the inside I mean their inner organs are also black.
01:45 They were introduced to Europe in 1998 by a Dutch breeder where they drew considerable
01:50 interest among poultry enthusiasts due to its unusual appearance and beautiful genetic
01:56 makeup.
01:57 This chicken is highly regarded in Asia because their meat is believed to have mystical powers.
02:03 Their meat also contains a high amount of iron therefore beneficial to everyone, especially
02:07 to women.
02:10 Number 3 – The Silky Bantam
02:13 One of the most beautiful and fluffy chickens alive today is Silky Bantam from China.
02:18 They are popular and beloved due to their pretty fluffy face.
02:22 These birds have hair like plumage and an incredibly sweet temperament.
02:26 They are also known as the lap dog of the chicken world.
02:29 They are said to have 5 toes instead of 4 as we usually see.
02:34 It is said that the Silky was brought to Europe about 200 years ago where Dutch breeders apparently
02:40 told prospective buyers that they were a crossbred of rabbits and chickens.
02:47 Number 4 – The Onagadori
02:49 On number 4 we have Onagadori.
02:52 The word Onagador means long-tailed and honorable chicken in Japanese.
02:58 Beautiful long-tailed feathers were achieved by selective breeding.
03:01 The length of tail feather of Onagador is about 12 to 27 feet.
03:06 It is said that this is the oldest breed of chickens dating back to the 1600s.
03:11 It is also believed that this breed is originated from another long-tailed Japanese chicken
03:15 named Shikoku.
03:17 Number 5 – Crested Golden Polish Chickens
03:22 One of the weirdest looking chickens on our list is the Golden Polish Chicken.
03:27 They are known for their large bufant crest of feathers on the head which seems like they
03:32 are wearing some kind of crown which also sometimes impedes their vision.
03:37 These chickens have wonderful layers of white eggs and these birds make great pet chickens.
03:43 Number 6 – Sarama
03:46 Another type of beautiful chicken is Sarama.
03:49 These chickens were originated in Malaysia and as the result of crossbreeding of many
03:54 other breeds of chickens.
03:56 They are also known as Arnold Schwarzenegger of Bantam family because they are 6 inches
04:01 tall.
04:02 Healthy chickens are often kept as indoor pets.
04:05 Thousands of Sarama chickens died during a bird flu attack back in 2004 but the good
04:10 news is that the breed is now in good recovery.
04:14 Number 7 – Max Rumpy
04:17 Max Rumpy is an excellent chicken breed that requires no virtual supplemental food.
04:23 Another fascinating thing about this chicken is that they don't grow a conventional tail.
04:27 This breed comes in a variety of colors.
04:30 Max Rumpy is originated from Iraq and Iran.
04:33 These are excellent free-range birds and can take care of their feeding needs on their
04:37 own.
04:38 These birds have small single combs that are in common with this breed.
04:43 Number 8 – Brahma
04:45 Brahmas are the gentle giants of chickens, also called the king of chicken breeds.
04:51 They are among the largest breed of chicken.
04:53 They are known for their featured legs, flat and fluffy feathering.
04:58 The Brahma is a massive, tall bird having strong feet and legs covered with feathers
05:04 that is extended all the way down to the middle toe.
05:07 This beautiful breed of the chicken is a great pet due to its quiet nature, tolerance to
05:11 cold and sheer thickness.
05:14 Brahma cocks can weigh more than 18 pounds.
05:19 Number 9 – Appenzeller
05:22 Appenzeller is a chicken breed which originated in Switzerland.
05:26 This polka dotted breed was named after the ladies who wore large lacy bonnets in Appenzellerland.
05:32 These chickens come in two varieties, the Schmitzhauben and the Silver Spangle.
05:37 The Schmitzhauben has feather crests in males and females.
05:40 It is light in weight, having an average weight of 3.5 pounds and is the most common variety
05:45 found in Switzerland.
05:47 Number 10 – Dongtao
05:50 Also called the dragon chicken, Dongtao is a Vietnamese chicken breed which has one of
05:55 the thickest legs usually not seen among birds of that size.
05:58 They may look horribly deformed but these dragon chickens are among the world's most
06:03 expensive poultry as their massive thighs are a delicacy in Vietnam and usually weigh
06:08 around 6 to 8 kilograms.
06:10 The bird's bulbous legs are covered with reddish scales and can grow to be as thick
06:15 as a person's wrist.
06:17 This bizarre looking breed is famous for its delicious meat and was once bred exclusively
06:22 for the country's royal family.
06:24 A pair of the chickens can cost a staggering $2,000 as they are in very short supply as
06:30 well as being difficult to breed.
06:33 Number 11 – Araucana
06:37 Another fascinating breed is Araucana.
06:40 These chickens are exceptionally rare.
06:42 They were originated from South America.
06:45 They have unusual tufts of feathers on the ears and some are without tails.
06:51 In these chickens the ear tufts and rumpleness is caused due to a genetic disorder that's
06:56 why not all of these birds show these traits.
06:59 These are full-size phantom Araucanas.
07:02 They have the ability to lay approximately 250 blue or green eggs per year.
07:07 Total 20 different varieties of Araucana are recognized by the American Poultry Association.
