00:09 My name is Rippon.
00:11 Believe it or not, I've got a banana tree behind me.
00:14 And now, in Hackney, London, I've got bananas growing.
00:20 [WATER SPLASHING]
00:34 I noticed the bananas growing just over two months ago.
00:37 At first, they were tiny beads.
00:42 And then gradually, as time went on, they were getting
00:45 bigger and bigger and bigger.
00:47 Then I saw two huge banana hearts.
00:51 And then I realized this isn't normal.
00:53 We are talking about bananas growing in Hackney,
00:57 eastern London.
00:58 [BIRDS CHIRPING]
01:06 I've had the banana trees growing in my garden for over
01:09 10 years.
01:11 But first two years, it's more about stabilizing the tree.
01:16 And once it's stable, then you know you're there.
01:19 I didn't think that the banana tree will actually survive.
01:31 Because in winter, it shrinks so much, most of the tree
01:36 ends up rotting.
01:37 But for the last few years, it hasn't rotted.
01:40 And now, the way things are going, it's going to thrive.
01:44 Google searched about banana trees.
01:47 I couldn't find what kind of banana tree it is.
01:50 But I know that they're not plantains.
01:53 But I just have to see if there'll be edible bananas as
01:57 time goes on.
01:59 I spoke to my neighbors about this.
02:11 I spoke to my neighbors about the banana tree.
02:13 They're amazed by it.
02:15 In fact, one of the neighbors have said, guess what?
02:18 Another neighbor is growing avocados.
02:20 I've always enjoyed growing things in my garden.
02:32 I have greens.
02:33 I have rana bean.
02:34 I have two vines.
02:36 I've got rosemaries and so many vegetables.
02:40 Vegetables and fruit, to name it.
02:41 I've got a cherry tree as well, and an apple tree.
02:44 So yes, a variety.
02:47 So I will keep on experimenting to see where
02:49 things go.
02:49 But now, I think the focus has to be on the banana.
02:53 I think we'll be seeing more of tropical, as well as fruit
02:58 and veg, growing in London and in the UK.
