00:14 On June 11, New York City has introduced a minimum wage scheme for its delivery workers.
00:20 The rate is set at $17.96 per hour and is set to rise to $19.96 in April 2025.
00:28 Meanwhile, World Bank economist Ali Safar Hajazmin said that the government can introduce
00:33 other initiatives such as automatic contributions for retirement savings and accident insurance
00:37 provision for gig workers.
00:39 This initiative was announced in the 2023 budget and it would be important to follow
00:44 through with it, she added.
00:45 On June 10, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government would establish the Gig
00:50 Economy Commission Malaysia to regulate the gig industry.
00:53 The commission, he said, would take care of the welfare of the entire economic chain,
00:57 including service providers, suppliers, workers and consumers.
