Team Audi Sport contested the Baja España Aragón around Teruel in eastern Spain for the first time. The competition, in which Audi competed outside the classification, together with a previous test marked the start of the squad’s six-month preparation for the 2024 Dakar Rally. While Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz finished in the Audi RS Q e-tron, Mattias Ekström/Emil Bergkvist retired after a water crossing caused damage to the power steering pump. In the case of Stéphane Peterhansel/Edouard Boulanger, a faulty sensor with consequences for the electric drive ended the race prematurely.

00:02 - Well, after one week of intense testing
00:12 in Zaragoza area with over 1,500 kilometers driven,
00:16 now it's getting the team back into the race mode.
00:18 And this is why we compete here in a two days Baja
00:21 out of the competition, preparing all the processes,
00:24 all the little details that have to fit together
00:26 for the Dakar Rally in 2024.

00:31 I don't have many opportunities to compete in Spain,
00:42 you know, in the last year.
00:43 So every opportunity I have, I really enjoy.
00:46 So it's important to be in the car, to do kilometers,
00:50 to sit with the co-driver.
00:51 And the challenge will be, you know,
00:53 to drive those cars much more narrow,
00:55 much more smaller roads than what we are used to
00:58 doing in the Dakar.
00:59 (upbeat music)
01:01 - The track is really interesting.
01:21 You know, it's really technical.
01:24 We can slide.
01:26 We take a pleasure to drive.
01:28 - And then finish the stage with no punctures,
01:30 no technical issues.
01:31 So we can be quite happy.

01:39 - Since Dakar, the Baja Aragon was the first test
02:00 on the race conditions.
02:01 Unfortunately, two cars couldn't finish the race
02:04 with Matthias and Stefan.
02:06 Carlos did an impressive performance here.
02:08 - The main thing to come to compete is to learn
02:12 and has been productive in that sense.
02:15 (upbeat music)
02:17 - We learned a hell of a lot in the last two days.
02:21 The next step we have to go back now,
02:24 just analyze what has been happened on the two cars
02:27 which were not finishing.
02:28 And then the next goal is obviously go to Morocco.
