00:00 Anderson Cooper is remembering his late brother on the 35th anniversary of Carter Cooper's death.
00:06 The CNN anchor took to Instagram to pay tribute to his older brother.
00:10 Quote, it is 35 years today since my brother Carter Cooper died.
00:15 I think of him and miss him every day.
00:17 Anderson captioned a series of black and white photos of Carter,
00:21 including a snapshot of the siblings together.
00:24 Carter died by suicide at the age of 23 after jumping off the terrace wall of his mother,
00:29 Gloria Vanderbilt's 14th floor Manhattan apartment.
00:33 Anderson has long been open about his brother's death.
00:36 Shortly after his mom passed away in 2019, he told his CNN viewers that he felt lonely
00:41 now being the only one left in his immediate family.
00:44 My dad died when I was 10 and my brother when I was 21.
00:50 She was the last of my immediate family, the last person who knew me from the beginning.
00:55 They're all gone and it feels very lonely right now.
00:59 I hope they are at least together.
01:01 I've said before that I often thought of my mom as a voyager from a distant galaxy who
01:07 was stranded here, unable to return to the place and time in which she was born.
01:11 I always tried to protect her, but couldn't do that very well when I was 10 or even 20.
01:16 But I'm happy that I was able to help make the latter years of her life comfortable and fulfilling.
01:20 When I die, that might be the thing I'm most proud of.
01:24 I'm happy that we left nothing unsaid between us.
01:28 She knew me and I knew her and there is great comfort in that.
01:31 You and I, it's a match made in heaven, she said to me last week.
01:36 We're a good team, I told her.
01:38 We stayed up late that night just holding hands and when she got sleepy and I got ready to leave,
01:42 she said to me, "What a wonderful night."
01:45 And it was.
01:46 Perhaps our best.
