00:00:28 - Yeah, JC here, I'm ready to go.
00:00:30 All right, good morning everyone, I'm JC Myhreholts.
00:00:38 This is USSSALIVE.com,
00:00:39 and this is the Future Stars Tournament.
00:00:42 Today's the final day,
00:00:43 and we're about to do the semi-final game.
00:00:46 And again, we've got two Future Stars teams in this game.
00:00:50 We've got the Red Sox, who are the visiting ball club,
00:00:52 and they are represented from different states,
00:00:53 which I'll talk about a little bit later,
00:00:56 taking on the Future Stars Crawdads.
00:00:59 So again, the Crawdads are in the field,
00:01:01 the Red Sox are coming up.
00:01:02 Let's run down their lineup quickly.
00:01:04 Leading things off will be the center fielder,
00:01:06 Caden Williams.
00:01:08 Batting second at second base is Colt Walker.
00:01:11 Hitting third in left field, Ben George.
00:01:13 Batting fourth, the extra hitter, Jackson Castagner.
00:01:17 Hitting fifth will be the first baseman, Dean Russell.
00:01:21 Batting sixth, the extra hitter, Noah Valdivia.
00:01:23 Batting seventh, the third baseman, is Blake Jennings.
00:01:26 So here's the first pitch of the game at 8.02 Eastern time.
00:01:29 Pitch in for a called strike,
00:01:30 and it's 0-1 on Caden Williams.
00:01:32 Batting eighth will be the pitcher, Travis Thompson.
00:01:35 Hitting ninth, the catcher, Will Russo.
00:01:38 Hitting tenth, the right fielder, is Kane Shaker.
00:01:40 And batting 11th is the shortstop, Omari Williams.
00:01:43 Pitch outside for a ball,
00:01:44 and that'll even the count up at one ball and one strike.
00:01:48 So the Red Sox come in to this game
00:01:52 with a two and two record in this tournament.
00:01:54 The Crawdads come in at two and one,
00:01:56 and this is a semifinal game.
00:01:58 This is 11 and under.
00:01:59 And the pitch is in for a called strike,
00:02:02 and it's one and two.
00:02:04 Again, just after eight o'clock Eastern time,
00:02:10 and already it is warming up.
00:02:12 And pitch in for a called strike three.
00:02:15 So going down on strikes is Williams.
00:02:18 So one away here in the top of the first.
00:02:22 That'll bring up the second baseman, Colt Walker.
00:02:24 We'll set the Crawdads defensively in just a moment.
00:02:31 So this is Colt Walker, the second baseman, wearing 68.
00:02:38 Tries to get the bunt down, goes back to the pitcher.
00:02:40 Throw to first is, well, it's not caught.
00:02:43 So I'm gonna have to charge an E3.
00:02:46 Good throw by the pitcher, but the first baseman
00:02:48 not able to hang on to it.
00:02:51 So reaching on the air is Colt Walker.
00:02:54 One out, runner on first.
00:02:55 Here's the left fielder, Ben George.
00:02:57 So for the Crawdads defensively,
00:02:59 playing at first is Phillip Grant Pilkington.
00:03:03 Cael Daniels playing second base.
00:03:05 Warren Moriority is the shortstop.
00:03:08 Blaze Durham is at third.
00:03:10 Got Stockton Gee in left field.
00:03:14 Tayson Taylor in center, and Jack Dobbins is in right.
00:03:18 Brandon Akers behind the plate,
00:03:19 and Oakley Manfress is the pitcher.
00:03:22 We have a bit of a delay, not quite sure what's going on.
00:03:24 The umpire is coming back behind home plate.
00:03:27 I don't mind giving the defensive lineup
00:03:30 always a good thing.
00:03:31 So again, this is Ben George, the left fielder.
00:03:36 And the runner's now on second.
00:03:39 I guess they awarded him second base.
00:03:41 Okay, that's what the discussion was about.
00:03:43 Not quite sure why.
00:03:45 A fake pickoff attempt, and the runner gets back.
00:03:48 Guess the ball went out of play.
00:03:50 Pitch in for a strike, throw to third is not in time.
00:03:57 So he stole base for Walker.
00:04:02 So the Red Sox, the big Red Sox yesterday,
00:04:10 actually split a day/night doubleheader
00:04:12 with my beloved New York Mets.
00:04:14 This is the future stars for Red Sox, pitch in for a ball.
00:04:16 And who knows, one of these players in,
00:04:18 oh, 13 or 14 years might be up in the major leagues.
00:04:24 You never know.
00:04:25 The strike one pitch is coming up.
00:04:28 This is from Oakley Manfress,
00:04:30 and the pitch is high for a ball.
00:04:32 That'll even the count up to one ball and one strike.
00:04:34 Jackson Castanker is on deck,
00:04:37 and again, Colt Walker is on third with one out.
00:04:41 The pitch by Manfress, it's a two-one,
00:04:43 it's outside, it's now three and one.
00:04:45 Outfield very shallow, pretty much straight away.
00:04:49 And again, it's another hot morning here in Central Florida.
00:04:53 Again, we're in Brevard County in the town of Vieira,
00:04:55 just north of Melbourne.
00:04:57 And again, very hot and no wind.
00:05:01 That ball's fisted, and it's a right field for a base hit.
00:05:05 Throw to first will not be in time.
00:05:07 In fact, it's a bad throw,
00:05:08 but no extra base on the advancement.
00:05:11 But Ben George has an RBI single to right field.
00:05:16 He floated it right over the head of Pilkington.
00:05:19 Pilkington had another two or three inches.
00:05:20 He probably would've caught it,
00:05:22 but just floated over his head.
00:05:24 So it's one-nothing for the Red Sox.
00:05:27 The pitch is in for a called strike.
00:05:29 Throw to second is not in time.
00:05:31 There's a steal for Ben George.
00:05:34 So two stolen bases in the inning.
00:05:37 And actually, that pitch was a ball.
00:05:40 Well, it looked pretty good, but called a ball.
00:05:42 One ball, no strikes.
00:05:43 So this is Jackson Castanger, the extra hitter.
00:05:47 There's a ground ball wide of third,
00:05:49 cut off by the third baseman.
00:05:50 Throw to first in time.
00:05:51 That's Durham throwing on to Pilkington.
00:05:54 Despite the fact that that play was in front of him,
00:05:57 the runner George easily made it to third base.
00:06:00 Usually they say don't cross over,
00:06:02 but he was able to very easily.
00:06:04 So two outs, runner on third.
00:06:08 That'll bring up the first baseman, Dean Russell.
00:06:10 Outfield remained shallow all the way around.
00:06:13 The pitch by Manfress is hit to third,
00:06:17 and it goes to the left field for a base hit,
00:06:19 and there's another RBI.
00:06:21 RBI single Russell driving in George.
00:06:24 So the Red Sox jump out to a two to nothing lead.
00:06:29 And now the extra hitter batting sixth is Noah Valdivia.
00:06:38 Why do I get the feeling Russell's
00:06:40 gonna try and steal here?
00:06:41 Again, they already have two stolen bases in the inning.
00:06:43 They seem to be the running Red Sox.
00:06:45 He's not running.
00:06:49 Wow, pitch outside for a ball.
00:06:51 Again, teaching the players how to lead is pretty important.
00:06:56 You don't just have to steal second every time.
00:06:59 Learn how to lead.
00:07:00 He's holding again.
00:07:01 Pitch in for a called strike.
00:07:03 (crowd chattering)
00:07:06 Blake Jennings, the on-deck batter.
00:07:09 Pitch is a bit outside.
00:07:15 Again, this is a 11 and under semifinal game.
00:07:18 Again, the Red Sox come in at two and two,
00:07:21 and the Crawdads come in at two and one.
00:07:23 So trying to get to the championship,
00:07:25 one of these two teams.
00:07:27 That ball's fisted short,
00:07:28 and it's caught by the shortstop Moriarty,
00:07:30 and that retires a side.
00:07:31 But a productive first inning for the Red Sox
00:07:35 as they score two.
00:07:37 They do so on two hits and an error,
00:07:38 and we go to the bottom of the first inning.
00:07:40 It's the Red Sox two and the Crawdads coming up.
00:07:44 So we'll take a break and be back.
00:07:46 This is USSSALive.com.

00:09:13 - Again, this is the Future Stars game,
00:09:19 the semifinal game of 11 and under.
00:09:21 JC Myreltz with you, USSSALive.com.
00:09:23 Let's give the Crawdads starting lineup.
00:09:25 They're the home team.
00:09:27 Leading things off will be the catcher, Brayden Akers.
00:09:30 Hitting second, the right fielder, Jack Dobbins.
00:09:33 Batting third in center field, Taysen Taylor.
00:09:37 Batting the four position, the shortstop, Warren Moriarty.
00:09:41 Hitting fifth is the extra hitter, Brody Dirks.
00:09:44 Batting sixth, playing first base, Phillip Grant-Hilkington.
00:09:48 Hitting seventh and third baseman is Blaise Durham.
00:09:51 Batting eighth, playing left field is Stockton Gee.
00:09:54 Hitting ninth and second baseman, Cael Daniel.
00:09:57 Hitting 10th will be the extra hitter, Landon Gaskins.
00:09:59 And batting 11th is the pitcher, Oakley Manfress.
00:10:03 So the pitch outside for a ball, ball one.
00:10:05 We'll give the Red Sox defensive look here in a moment.
00:10:09 Again, this is Brayden Akers, the catcher,
00:10:11 leading things off.
00:10:13 There you get a good look at the pitcher, Travis Thompson.
00:10:19 The pitch on the way is high for a ball, 2 and 0 on Akers.
00:10:22 So defensively for the Red Sox, we've
00:10:24 got Dean Russell playing at first,
00:10:26 Colt Walker, the second baseman, Omari Williams, the shortstop,
00:10:30 and Blake Jennings at third.
00:10:31 We'll survey the outfield in a moment.
00:10:35 And the pitch is swung on.
00:10:37 Missed, and I believe it counts 2 and 1.
00:10:39 They're a little bit behind the scoreboard.
00:10:41 In left field, we got Ben George.
00:10:42 In center field, Kaden Williams.
00:10:44 In right field, Kane Shager.
00:10:47 So we've got a Kaden and a Kane, like Citizen Kane, Orson Wells,
00:10:52 about 90 years ago.
00:10:53 Ball is fisted foul down the first baseline.
00:10:56 Citizen Kane, Rosebud.
00:11:00 The catcher's Will Russo.
00:11:02 And again, Travis Thompson is pitching.
00:11:05 So again, 2 for the Red Sox in the top half of the inning.
00:11:07 Let's see what the Crawdads can do.
00:11:09 And the pitch is outside.
00:11:16 Gets away from the catcher, but no harm done.
00:11:18 Nobody on base.
00:11:19 The Crawdads, again, that's a minor league baseball team
00:11:22 somewhere in the Carolinas.
00:11:24 I know that for a fact.
00:11:25 Again, both these teams are known as the future All-Stars
00:11:30 because this is the future All-Stars tournament.
00:11:33 Again, the Red Sox are in the field, and the Crawdads are up.
00:11:37 The 2-2 is it for a 4, a strike 3.
00:11:42 Thompson gets acres, one away, here in the bottom of the first.
00:11:47 And that'll bring up the right fielder, Jack Dobbins.
00:11:49 Right-handed batter is Dobbins.
00:11:57 I'll tell you, he's got a lot of the left field line
00:12:00 if he wants it.
00:12:01 Again, this is a big field, particularly for 11-year-olds.
00:12:04 Pretty much the outfield is shallow and straight away.
00:12:08 And the pitch showing bunt, didn't offer,
00:12:10 and it's a ball one on Dobbins.
00:12:12 So really, there's a lot of room everywhere.
00:12:18 The gaps are wide open, and the lines are wide open.
00:12:22 This is a big field.
00:12:23 It really is.
00:12:25 All right, ball one pitch coming up from Thompson to Dobbins.
00:12:29 And fouled off straight back.
00:12:30 And it's a one ball and one strike out.
00:12:32 So again, the winner of this game
00:12:37 will move on to the championship game.
00:12:41 And the losers should be done.
00:12:42 Again, this is a semifinal game.
00:12:45 I assume it's double elimination.
00:12:46 It's what it usually is.
00:12:48 The 1-1 is on the outside corner.
00:12:52 Wow, first ball strike.
00:12:55 So one ball and two strikes on Jack Dobbins.
00:12:58 Again, the fence is more or less about 200 feet away.
00:13:01 And the pitch is inside.
00:13:06 Looking for help with Dobbins.
00:13:08 And it's a two-two.
00:13:11 So it'd be a bit of a challenge for players of this age
00:13:13 to hit a home run.
00:13:14 I mean, there is a big net beyond the outfield fence.
00:13:17 I mean, the fence isn't very tall.
00:13:18 It's probably about 6 and 1/2, 7 feet tall.
00:13:22 The pitch is swung on ahead.
00:13:25 The pitch is swung on ahead.
00:13:28 Ball dropped.
00:13:29 Thrower first will complete the strikeout.
00:13:31 Peter Green and Dobbins.
00:13:33 Those are tired.
00:13:34 So Travis Thompson, first two out of the game,
00:13:36 has struck them both out.
00:13:37 So two outs and nobody on.
00:13:42 That'll bring up Tayson Taylor, the center fielder.
00:13:46 So both teams are batting 11 in their lineup,
00:13:49 two extra hitters.
00:13:52 So everybody on the roster is in the lineup.
00:13:55 So that's good.
00:13:56 Even the extra hitters are not playing a position,
00:13:58 but at least they're getting some at-bats.
00:14:01 And the pitch by Thompson is in for a cross strike.
00:14:04 Nice pitch outside corner.
00:14:06 And it's a strike one.
00:14:09 Again, 11 and under.
00:14:10 You're really going to see a lot of curveballs from the pitchers.
00:14:13 I mean, they're always saying they're
00:14:14 at that age where the shoulder and the arm
00:14:18 are still developing.
00:14:19 You want to risk throwing too many curveballs.
00:14:23 That looked like a fastball.
00:14:24 It's a chopper up the third baseline.
00:14:26 Goes foul about halfway up.
00:14:29 And it's a two-strike out.
00:14:32 Tommy Daniels, the head coach of the Crawdads,
00:14:39 very nice gentleman.
00:14:40 He's the one that's coaching at third with the big straw hat.
00:14:44 Ryan Durham is his assistant.
00:14:45 Pitches outside for a ball.
00:14:47 So both of these teams only have two coaches, a head coach
00:14:50 and assistant coach.
00:14:51 I mean, I've been doing tournaments out here for years,
00:14:53 and it's amazing.
00:14:54 Sometimes there are like four or five coaches.
00:14:56 So the coaching staff is a bit skeleton,
00:14:59 but they're here.
00:15:02 1-2 pitch is waved out and missed.
00:15:04 Ball dropped, throw to first.
00:15:06 Will compete to strike out.
00:15:07 So Travis Thompson starting off very well.
00:15:11 Not only a 1-2-3 inning, but he strikes out the side.
00:15:15 So 3-up, 3-down go the Crawdads in the bottom
00:15:17 of the first inning.
00:15:18 It is 2-0 Red Sox at the end of the first inning.
00:15:22 So we'll pause.
00:15:23 We'll be back.
00:15:24 This is the Future Stars Tournament
00:15:26 here at the USSSAlive.com.

00:16:16 Welcome back.
00:16:42 There you get a good look at the starting pitcher, Oakley Manfress,
00:16:47 wearing a 0-4.
00:16:50 So Manfress throwing in his warm-up pitches.
00:16:52 Again, top of the second inning, a two-spot for the Red Sox
00:16:55 at the top of the first.
00:16:56 They lead it 2-0.
00:16:58 And I believe we're scheduled for six innings.
00:17:00 Again, this is 11 and under.
00:17:03 So coming up for the Red Sox here in the top of the second,
00:17:05 it'll be the 789 batters, Blake Jennings, Travis Thompson,
00:17:09 and Will Rousseau.
00:17:10 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:17:14 So again, it's another hot Sunday morning here
00:17:17 in Brevard County.
00:17:18 Boy, hard to believe-- boy, July is just flying by.
00:17:20 Today is the 23rd, folks.
00:17:22 We only got a week left in July.
00:17:24 And then it'll probably get a little bit hotter in August.
00:17:28 That's why they call it the dog days.
00:17:30 The dog days are coming up.
00:17:31 So again, semifinal game, 11 and under
00:17:36 of this Future Stars tournament.
00:17:39 So this is the final day of the tournament.
00:17:42 Again, out here at USSS, there are
00:17:44 tournaments going on all year, except for maybe two or three
00:17:47 weekends.
00:17:48 There's always something brewing-- baseball, softball,
00:17:51 on the fast-pitch side, and then slow-pitch softball.
00:17:55 Here we go with Blake Jennings for the Red Sox
00:17:57 leading off in the top of the second inning.
00:17:59 Oh, what'd you do?
00:18:00 It was plugged into the--
00:18:01 And the pitch is outside for--
00:18:03 or in for a strike.
00:18:04 Wow, that looked a bit outside.
00:18:07 So Blake Williams with a strike one count.
00:18:10 --plug it into one of the numbers
00:18:11 so they can green light next to it.
00:18:13 And the pitch is-- he did not swing.
00:18:15 That one was outside.
00:18:17 It's 1 and 1.
00:18:18 Blake Jennings wearing 56.
00:18:22 I don't think anybody in the major leagues wears 56,
00:18:24 but there might be somebody.
00:18:25 Pitch is on the outside corner in for a strike.
00:18:28 I got to tell you, this home plate umpire,
00:18:29 he is definitely giving the outside corner to both pitchers
00:18:32 so far.
00:18:33 So you better cover the plate.
00:18:34 The 1-2, that one is way outside.
00:18:36 And it's a 2 and 2.
00:18:37 So far, both teams have been playing
00:18:42 a pretty shallow outfield.
00:18:45 The 2-2 pitch is on the outside corner in for a called strike
00:18:49 three.
00:18:51 So that's the second strike out of the ball game
00:18:53 for Oakley Manfress.
00:18:54 So one away, and that'll bring up his opposition
00:18:59 on the mound, the pitcher for the Red Sox, Travis Thompson.
00:19:03 And again, Thompson struck out the side
00:19:06 in his two wings on the mound.
00:19:09 Now he's going to try and help his own cause.
00:19:13 Pitch is outside for a ball.
00:19:14 It's ball one.
00:19:15 And the 1-0 is outside.
00:19:24 That'll run the count to two balls and no strikes.
00:19:26 Again, first baseman, third baseman
00:19:31 are giving the respective lines.
00:19:35 Pitch is in for a called strike.
00:19:37 And it's-- I believe the count's 2 and 1.
00:19:41 They might be a little bit behind the scoreboard.
00:19:45 I rely on that scoreboard.
00:19:47 Pitch in for a strike.
00:19:48 OK, it's now a 2 and 2.
00:19:52 So again, we're in the fast pitch stadium.
00:19:55 Reminder, the USSSA Pride, the professional softball team
00:19:58 here in Brevard County.
00:19:59 They're going to be back in town August 1st
00:20:02 through the 3rd for a three-game series.
00:20:04 And the pitch in for a called strike three.
00:20:07 So back-to-back strikeouts of Jennings and Thompson
00:20:10 by Manfress.
00:20:11 So two outs with nobody on.
00:20:15 That'll bring up the catcher, Will Russo,
00:20:17 who bats ninth in the batting order.
00:20:19 Again, both teams are batting 11.
00:20:20 Well, I'll tell you, this is kind of an odd thing to say.
00:20:28 But the Red Sox uniforms remind me
00:20:30 of the Astros uniforms in the '70s and '80s.
00:20:33 Pitch in for a ball.
00:20:35 Boy, going back to the Astros in the '70s, who did we have?
00:20:38 We had Larry Turker, who was a pitcher.
00:20:41 The Toy Cannon, Jimmy Wynn.
00:20:42 Remember him?
00:20:44 I do.
00:20:45 Pitches outside for a ball, later played for the Dodgers.
00:20:49 Cesar Cedeno.
00:20:51 I'll tell you, I thought he was going
00:20:53 to be another Willie Mays.
00:20:54 He had a decent career.
00:20:56 Always got hurt.
00:20:58 And of course, there was Bob Watson, who later on became
00:21:01 general manager of the Yankees.
00:21:03 Pitches on the outside corner in for a strike.
00:21:05 And it's a 2 and 1 on Will Russo.
00:21:08 So if you remember those Astro uniforms,
00:21:10 might get a good look at there on the TV.
00:21:14 Got those stripes going across the chest level.
00:21:18 So snazzy uniforms from the '70s.
00:21:23 The Crawdads are pretty usual.
00:21:26 White pants and black shirts.
00:21:29 Pitches are chopped short.
00:21:31 Moriarty would almost eat him up,
00:21:32 but he throws to first in time.
00:21:34 Nice play by Moriarty, backed up a little bit.
00:21:37 That ball came in like a hot tamale,
00:21:39 and he made the play across the first.
00:21:41 And the inning is over.
00:21:43 So Oakley-Manfres, a 1-2-3 inning
00:21:46 in the top of the second inning.
00:21:47 We go to the bottom of the second inning.
00:21:48 It's the Red Sox 2, the Crawdads nothing.
00:21:51 We'll pause.
00:21:51 This is USSSAlive.com.
00:21:53 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:21:57 [CHEERING]
00:22:17 You're coming up on him.
00:22:18 Let's go, kid.
00:22:20 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:22:24 All right.
00:22:39 Let's go.
00:22:47 [CHEERING]
00:22:50 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:22:54 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:22:57 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:23:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:23:05 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:23:09 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:23:12 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:23:26 All right.
00:23:34 Welcome back.
00:23:35 There you get a good look at Travis Thompson,
00:23:37 who executed a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the first inning.
00:23:42 Now we go to the bottom of the second.
00:23:43 He'll try and do the same thing.
00:23:46 For the Crawdads, batting here in the home half of the second,
00:23:48 it'll be 4, 5, and 6 in the batting order.
00:23:51 Warren Moriority, the shortstop, the extra hitter Brody Dirtz,
00:23:55 and then Philip Grant Pilkington, the first baseman.
00:24:01 Well, again, these are future star teams.
00:24:03 And many of the states--
00:24:05 well, not many of the states, but a good handful, at least,
00:24:09 are represented.
00:24:09 So some of the information I was able to get out of the coaches,
00:24:14 the Crawdads have players from Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi,
00:24:19 Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Kansas.
00:24:29 There might be a few other states,
00:24:30 but those are the ones that the head coach rattled off.
00:24:34 Again, Tommy Daniels, the head coach for the Crawdads.
00:24:37 Assistant coach is Ryan Durham.
00:24:39 And for the Red Sox, Indiana, California, Virginia, Florida,
00:24:50 South Carolina, some of the states that are represented.
00:24:53 This one is hit to right field.
00:24:55 Throw to first will not be in time.
00:24:59 Again, bringing back memories of Carl Furillo,
00:25:01 of the boys of summer, Brooklyn Dodgers, in the '50s.
00:25:04 He used to make a living throwing out
00:25:06 runners from right field.
00:25:07 That one is relatively close, but that
00:25:10 was Warren Moriority beating it out for a single.
00:25:13 So first base runner of the game for the Crawdads.
00:25:16 That'll bring up Brody Dirks, the extra hitter.
00:25:20 So Moriority leading off a first,
00:25:21 and Dirks representing the tying run at the plate.
00:25:30 So Dirks with not a fancy stance.
00:25:32 Feed parallel to the plate.
00:25:33 Pitches on the outside corner for a strike.
00:25:35 0 and 1, a bluff start by Moriority at first.
00:25:38 He's being held on by Dean Russell.
00:25:40 Again, the outfield playing very shallow.
00:25:47 Pitches low and outside.
00:25:49 That'll leave him the count up at 1 and 1 on Brody Dirks,
00:25:53 D-I-R-K-S on the last name.
00:25:58 So again, Dirks representing the potential tying run
00:26:01 at the plate.
00:26:01 Pitches outside.
00:26:02 Gets by the catcher.
00:26:04 Throw to second will not be in time
00:26:08 as the ball goes into center field,
00:26:10 but no advance by the base runner.
00:26:12 So that'll be a wild pitch charged to Thompson.
00:26:15 And moving up to second is Moriority.
00:26:18 So runner on second, nobody out.
00:26:23 Certainly for the Crawdads, at least a really good chance
00:26:25 to get at least one run.
00:26:27 It's a 2-1 count on Dirks.
00:26:31 And the pitch a little bit high.
00:26:34 And it's a 3 and 1 on Dirks.
00:26:38 I think my favorite name of this team is Philip Grant
00:26:41 Pilkington.
00:26:43 He is on deck.
00:26:46 It'll be a 3-1.
00:26:48 Swung on and missed.
00:26:49 And now a 3-2 count on Brody Dirks.
00:26:56 [WHISTLE]
00:26:58 So it's really interesting how they get all these players
00:27:01 together from several states all over the country.
00:27:05 But there's no schools, so I guess they're able to do it.
00:27:08 Pitches on the inside corner in for a strike.
00:27:11 Wow, the batter Dirks had a duck,
00:27:14 and yet it was called a strike.
00:27:16 Very interesting call.
00:27:18 So that is four strikeouts for Travis Thompson.
00:27:22 He has faced five batters.
00:27:23 He has struck out four of the five.
00:27:25 Again, he allowed the base hit to Moriarty.
00:27:30 And now Philip Grant Pilkington, the first baseman,
00:27:33 as Thompson, with a look at second, does not throw.
00:27:37 Colt Walker, the second baseman, doing a little bit
00:27:40 of bird-dogging.
00:27:41 The pitch is swung on and missed by Pilkington.
00:27:46 And it's strike one on him.
00:27:49 But I'll tell you, that sun is really shining brightly.
00:27:52 So important for these players to remain hydrated.
00:27:57 There's a little ground ball at the first base side.
00:27:59 Fair ball, throw to first.
00:28:01 Is in time, as Thompson tried to tag the runner,
00:28:04 but he was by him.
00:28:05 But he threw on the first for the out.
00:28:07 So that moves Moriarty to third.
00:28:10 And there are now two outs.
00:28:11 That'll bring up the third baseman, Blaze Durham.
00:28:17 He bats seventh of the batting order.
00:28:19 And he wears 71.
00:28:21 So it's up to Durham to try and bring that run in from third.
00:28:24 Again, it's 2-0 for the Red Sox here
00:28:25 in the bottom of the second.
00:28:26 Two outs running on third.
00:28:30 And Thompson with a pitch.
00:28:32 Fly ball, shallow right.
00:28:35 Second baseman goes back.
00:28:36 Oh, he can't catch it.
00:28:37 He drops the ball.
00:28:38 And the run scores.
00:28:39 And goes to the third.
00:28:46 And going to give a base hit on that.
00:28:51 I'm not really the official scorer.
00:28:52 But that was kind of a tough play.
00:28:54 The second baseman was backing up, backing up.
00:28:56 And it went off his glove.
00:28:58 So I'll give Durham and Orby I scoring Moriarty.
00:29:02 And the Crawdads get on the scoreboard.
00:29:04 They still trail 2-1.
00:29:06 Throw to first, not in time.
00:29:07 Again, you saw the replay there.
00:29:14 Good job by our people in the studio.
00:29:16 Led by the big Z, Zach.
00:29:17 Always an easier play for the outfielder
00:29:24 if they can get there.
00:29:25 But he wasn't able to get there.
00:29:26 Runner goes at first.
00:29:27 Attempted steal second.
00:29:28 Is successful.
00:29:30 Ball goes in the center field.
00:29:32 Good hustle by Walker, the second baseman,
00:29:33 to knock it down.
00:29:37 So Durham with the steal.
00:29:38 He's on second.
00:29:39 He represents the tying run.
00:29:46 So Stockton G is the batter.
00:29:48 And the pitch is in for a ball.
00:30:01 And it's a 3-0.
00:30:15 And the pitch in for a ball.
00:30:16 Throw to third is not in time.
00:30:19 So it'll be a walk as G walks down to first.
00:30:25 You know, if you're on defense, you know,
00:30:27 you got to call time.
00:30:30 Because G, who walked, was really
00:30:31 threatening to go to second base.
00:30:33 All you got to do is call time.
00:30:34 And G has to stay where he is.
00:30:36 So he is on first base.
00:30:38 But he was going around first thinking, hey,
00:30:40 I might go to second.
00:30:42 And he finally did call time.
00:30:44 So a walk to G. Runner's still on third base.
00:30:48 And here's Cael Daniel, the second baseman.
00:30:50 Looks like the coach is tying the shoe of the base runner.
00:31:07 OK.
00:31:07 Coaches have to do everything, I'll tell you.
00:31:09 [INAUDIBLE]
00:31:17 So Cael Daniel will be the batter.
00:31:19 Runners first and third, two outs.
00:31:20 Again, one run in for the Crawdads.
00:31:23 So it's a two-ball count.
00:31:32 [INAUDIBLE]
00:31:34 And it's a throw to third.
00:31:41 In the meantime, a steal of second by G.
00:31:48 So the tying run is on at third.
00:31:50 The go-ahead run is on at second.
00:31:52 So good chance here for Daniel if he
00:31:54 can get a single to the outfield to bring in two runs.
00:31:57 The two-ball pitch is a chopper foul, third base side.
00:31:59 [INAUDIBLE]
00:32:03 So it's a strike one count.
00:32:12 Another kickoff, and they got the runner in a rundown.
00:32:19 Throw to the plate is not in time.
00:32:21 Gets by the catcher.
00:32:22 Now the other runner's going to move to third.
00:32:25 Well, I'll tell you, major leaguers in practice
00:32:28 have to practice that play even.
00:32:30 And certainly 11 and unders have to do that.
00:32:33 So that was not executed very well,
00:32:34 but that is something that needs to be done in practice.
00:32:37 And there's a certain way of doing it.
00:32:39 If you get more than three throws,
00:32:41 then you're not doing it correctly.
00:32:44 You got it.
00:32:45 It's OK.
00:32:47 So that is a one to five to two that was not executed,
00:32:51 and we are tied at two.
00:32:52 There's a roller hit wide of third.
00:32:58 Throw to first is in time, and that retires a side.
00:33:02 So Daniel grounds out, and two runs in the inning
00:33:11 have tied the ball game.
00:33:12 It is 2-2.
00:33:14 As we go to the top of the third, we'll be right back.
00:33:16 This is USSSAlive.com.
00:33:18 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:21 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:25 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:28 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:33 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:36 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:39 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:43 [MUSIC PLAYING]

00:33:50 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:53 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:33:57 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:34:00 It started with a simple idea--
00:34:03 to break what the game knows.
00:34:05 To evolve the standard.
00:34:08 It's time to revolutionize defense.
00:34:12 Printed in 4D for a breakthrough in technology.
00:34:17 Ultra lightweight, resilient, form fit, game ready,
00:34:22 and protested.
00:34:25 Designed for a revolution.
00:34:27 Engineered for defense.
00:34:29 The Rev1X.
00:34:31 [SIGHS]
00:34:34 [AUDIO OUT]
00:34:38 [AUDIO OUT]
00:34:41 [AUDIO OUT]
00:34:45 OK, welcome back.
00:35:10 We go to the top of the third inning.
00:35:11 We are tied at 2.
00:35:14 So two runs for the Red Sox in the top of the first inning.
00:35:17 The Crawdads with 2 in the bottom of the second.
00:35:20 So for the Red Sox coming up in the top of the third inning,
00:35:29 10, 11, and 1 in the batting order.
00:35:31 Cain Shaker, Amari Williams, and Caden Williams.
00:35:34 There you get a good look at the pitcher.
00:35:41 Oakley Manfress.
00:35:44 Well, again, they're going to be moving players around
00:35:46 eventually, but one more time before they switch positions.
00:35:51 Which is a good thing.
00:35:52 I mean, players of this age should
00:35:53 try and learn to play as many positions as possible,
00:35:55 particularly if you're an infielder,
00:35:57 you should play some outfield.
00:35:59 But as of right now, Philip Grant Pilkington
00:36:02 playing first base.
00:36:03 Cael Daniel at second.
00:36:05 Warren Moriarty is the shortstop.
00:36:08 Blaise Durham is at third.
00:36:10 Stockton Gee in left field.
00:36:12 Taysen Taylor in center.
00:36:15 And Jack Dobbins in right.
00:36:17 Brandon Akers catching, and Oakley Manfress is pitching.
00:36:21 So two-two tie as we go to the top of the third inning.
00:36:25 So this is Cain Shaker leading things off.
00:36:27 Again, the sun is out brightly, and there's really no wind.
00:36:39 So getting hot already.
00:36:41 The pitch in for a called strike.
00:36:43 Outfield shallow again.
00:36:51 They really haven't played deep at all.
00:36:53 Neither team pitch in for a called strike,
00:36:55 and it's 0-2 on Shaker.
00:36:58 S-H-A-G-E-R in the last name.
00:37:00 First name Cain.
00:37:05 Ball's lifted short and caught by Moriarty.
00:37:10 And again, the players are going to move around.
00:37:12 I don't think anybody's moved around yet.
00:37:15 But I'm going to give that to Moriarty
00:37:16 at short for the put out and one away.
00:37:19 And here's the 11th hitter, Amari Williams, the shortstop.
00:37:25 So it went out nobody on here in the top of the third.
00:37:35 Swung on and missed.
00:37:36 That was a wave and a miss by Williams, and it's a strike one.
00:37:42 So again, the Red Sox at 2-2 in this tournament.
00:37:45 Winner goes to the championship game.
00:37:47 Pitch is outside.
00:37:49 That'll leave with a count up 1-1 on Amari Williams
00:37:52 with Cated Williams in the on-deck circle.
00:37:55 I'm not sure if those two are related.
00:37:59 That ball is a cute foul over toward the first base side.
00:38:02 [INAUDIBLE]
00:38:07 That's a one ball two strike count on Amari Williams.
00:38:10 [INAUDIBLE]
00:38:13 Up, up, up.
00:38:14 And the 1-2.
00:38:20 It's swung on and missed.
00:38:22 So another strikeout for Manfrest.
00:38:24 That is strikeout number four.
00:38:26 [INAUDIBLE]
00:38:31 So both pitchers are strikeout machines.
00:38:33 Four strikeouts for Manfrest, and also four strikeouts
00:38:37 for Thompson.
00:38:37 So it went out nobody on here at the top of the third.
00:38:42 We go back to the top of the batting order,
00:38:44 and Cated Williams, the center fielder,
00:38:46 he struck out looking to start this game.
00:38:48 And the pitch in for a ball.
00:38:53 And I know I say this a lot on the broadcast.
00:38:55 Again, Williams is wearing 44, which
00:38:58 to me is one of the more famous numbers in baseball history,
00:39:02 worn by three Hall of Famers.
00:39:05 The pitch is swung on and missed,
00:39:07 and perhaps more than that.
00:39:09 But again, Henry Aaron, Willie McCovey, and Reggie Jackson.
00:39:14 It doesn't get much better than those three.
00:39:16 Pitch is outside for a ball, and it's a 2 and 1.
00:39:23 I mean, three Hall of Famers, indeed.
00:39:26 [INAUDIBLE]
00:39:28 Hey, it doesn't mean an out.
00:39:31 And a 2-1 is outside.
00:39:33 Oh, a little hesitation there on the pitch by Manfrest.
00:39:36 That'll throw you off sync.
00:39:40 Kind of had a little delay, a little hitch in his pitch
00:39:42 there.
00:39:45 And the pitch is outside.
00:39:46 Ball four and walking is Cated Williams.
00:39:50 So that is the first walk allowed by Manfrest.
00:39:54 [INAUDIBLE]
00:39:57 And that'll bring up Colt Walker, the second baseman.
00:39:59 Again, we're tied at two error in the third,
00:40:01 so potential go-ahead run on at first base.
00:40:03 As leading off at first is Williams
00:40:05 being held on by Pilkington.
00:40:08 Here's Colt Walker, who reached on an error
00:40:11 back in the first inning and eventually came around
00:40:13 to score.
00:40:15 Pickoff attempt, and the runner gets back.
00:40:17 [INAUDIBLE]
00:40:19 [INAUDIBLE]
00:40:20 And the pitch, runner goes, throw to second.
00:40:29 Is not in time, goes to the center field,
00:40:30 but backed up nicely by Taylor at center.
00:40:32 So holding is Williams, but give him a stolen base.
00:40:36 Hey, bring it around, big day.
00:40:39 So potential go-ahead run is at second base.
00:40:42 Again, there are two outs.
00:40:43 It'll be a ball one count on Colt Walker.
00:40:46 [INAUDIBLE]
00:40:48 That ball sliced foul.
00:40:51 Oh, low bridge by our cameraman above the first base dugout.
00:40:57 Wasn't really close to hitting him,
00:40:59 but yeah, he ducked a little bit.
00:41:00 Get this out of the way.
00:41:01 Did you blow?
00:41:02 And it's a one ball, one strike out.
00:41:05 You got to be alert at a baseball game.
00:41:07 There is a lot of netting behind home plate,
00:41:10 but it pretty much ends at the dugout.
00:41:11 So anybody beyond the dugouts and the causeway,
00:41:15 or in this case, our cameraman, you better be alert.
00:41:20 So one and one on Colt Walker.
00:41:25 And the pitch, that's a change up.
00:41:26 I think that pitch got away from the pitcher, Manfress.
00:41:29 Very high, and it's a two and one.
00:41:33 A little bit of bird dogging by Warren Moriority,
00:41:35 the shortstop.
00:41:38 He's actually holding the runner on at second.
00:41:41 And the pitch is off the outside corner.
00:41:44 And it's a three ball, one strike out on Walker.
00:41:47 Ben George is on deck.
00:41:48 And Manfress, with a look at second, does not throw.
00:42:00 And stepping out of the batter's box is Walker.
00:42:02 Now he gets back in.
00:42:05 It'll be a three one.
00:42:07 And it's in for a called strike.
00:42:09 Oh, Walker wanted to go down to first, threw the bat away.
00:42:12 Did not say mother may I.
00:42:14 You always got to do that with the umpire, three and two.
00:42:16 And the three two pitch is fouled off.
00:42:28 So good battle here between Manfress and Walker.
00:42:32 [CHATTER]
00:42:35 Manfress taking his time.
00:42:53 There is no pitch clock to my knowledge out here.
00:42:57 Ball is fouled off and out of play.
00:42:58 I'll tell you, these 11-year-olds,
00:43:00 they should be thinking about a lot of things
00:43:02 in between pitches.
00:43:04 So having to worry about the pitch clock
00:43:07 would be a little bit overwhelming.
00:43:09 The major leaguers, they're getting used to it.
00:43:11 But they've played baseball a long time.
00:43:15 And we got a pick off.
00:43:17 One to six to five, but safe at third.
00:43:22 So they had him picked off, but able to get to third base
00:43:25 was Williams.
00:43:25 [CHATTER]
00:43:28 So now Williams on third with two outs.
00:43:32 It'll be a three two.
00:43:33 And he tried to bun at it.
00:43:38 And it's strike three.
00:43:40 Wow.
00:43:41 Can't quite figure out the strategy there.
00:43:43 That'll be a strikeout for Manfress, his fifth of the game.
00:43:48 So nothing across for the Red Sox.
00:43:50 They're half of the third inning.
00:43:52 We go to the bottom of the third inning.
00:43:53 A good one in this semifinal game of the Future Stars
00:43:57 tournament.
00:43:58 It is 2-2.
00:43:59 And this is USSAlive.com.
00:44:01 We'll be right back.
00:44:02 [MUSIC PLAYING]

00:45:03 (upbeat music)
00:45:05 (upbeat music)
00:45:08 (upbeat music)
00:45:10 (upbeat music)
00:45:15 (upbeat music)
00:45:20 (upbeat music)
00:45:24 (upbeat music)
00:45:28 (cheering)
00:45:32 (cheering)
00:45:36 (cheering)
00:45:39 (cheering)
00:45:41 - All right, bottom of the third inning,
00:45:51 we are tied at two.
00:45:52 The Crawdads batting in the home half of the third inning.
00:45:56 This is Landon Gaskins, the extra hitter.
00:45:59 He takes ball one.
00:46:00 Pitch by Thompson is in for a called strike.
00:46:05 (clapping)
00:46:07 So one ball, one strike on Gaskins.
00:46:18 Pitch is outside for a ball.
00:46:19 The Dolphins have a running back named Gaskins.
00:46:23 I think he's still with them.
00:46:25 Guy who played at the University of Washington.
00:46:27 No relation, I don't think, with Landon Gaskins.
00:46:32 Pitch is outside for a ball.
00:46:34 (chattering)
00:46:36 And it's two balls and one strike on Gaskins.
00:46:38 It'll be followed by Oakley Manfress and Brandon Akers.
00:46:42 So 10, 11, and one in the Crawdads batting order.
00:46:47 And the pitch on the outside corner for a strike.
00:46:49 It'll be two and two.
00:46:50 Two runs on three hits so far for the Red Sox.
00:46:55 Two runs, two hits for the Crawdads.
00:46:58 So pretty even game so far.
00:47:01 And the pitch is a cute foul for the first base side.
00:47:05 Nice pick up by the first base coach.
00:47:07 And the count remains two and two on Landon Gaskins.
00:47:13 Outfield straight away and shallow.
00:47:17 Two-two is inside, and I guess it was three and two
00:47:21 because that's gonna be a walk.
00:47:23 No it's not.
00:47:24 The umpire is flashing three and two.
00:47:27 So our scoreboard person was right.
00:47:31 So the batter thought it was a walk.
00:47:34 And now the umpire is walking down to first saying,
00:47:39 no, it's now three and two.
00:47:42 I hear echoes in the crowd saying, no, it's a walk.
00:47:46 Disagreements are always gonna happen.
00:47:49 So it's now a three and two count.
00:47:59 And the pitch is on the outside corner
00:48:02 in for a called strike three.
00:48:03 So Gaskins does not get the walk,
00:48:06 and he's very frustrated, and instead he is called out
00:48:09 on strikes as the fifth strikeout
00:48:11 in two plus innings for Travis Thompson.
00:48:14 Three of his five strikeouts have been looking.
00:48:18 So here's Oakley Manfress, his counterpart on the mound.
00:48:22 One out, nobody on here in the bottom of the third.
00:48:24 Tied at two.
00:48:28 And the pitch is bunted on and fouled off
00:48:31 straight back behind home plate.
00:48:32 Strike one on Oakley Manfress.
00:48:35 First time he has been up, and he bats 11th.
00:48:38 Middle of the infield playing at normal depth.
00:48:47 First and third baseman near their respective bags.
00:48:50 This one is hit now, right center field, base hit.
00:48:52 And it gets by the center fielder.
00:48:54 So Manfress is gonna go to second.
00:48:56 He's gonna try for third.
00:48:58 Throw comes in, it's dropped by the shortstop.
00:49:01 So that'll be a single and a two base error.
00:49:05 Ball should have been handled by the center fielder,
00:49:08 but it got by him.
00:49:10 So Manfress is on third base.
00:49:16 He represents the go ahead run going very nicely
00:49:19 to the opposite field.
00:49:20 The center fielder just happened to overrun the ball
00:49:25 a little bit, and it skipped by him.
00:49:27 So runner on third, and one out.
00:49:30 And the pitch on the outside corner for a strike
00:49:34 'cause Brandon Akers, the catcher,
00:49:36 he struck out looking back in the first inning.
00:49:39 So a chance here for the,
00:49:43 chance here for the Crawdads to take the lead.
00:49:48 Squares around to bunt.
00:49:49 Bunting down to first, throw home.
00:49:51 Is not gonna be in time.
00:49:54 Ball gets by the catcher.
00:49:55 Runner at first will stay where he is.
00:49:57 That'll be a four B.I. bunt single for Akers.
00:50:02 Nicely placed bunt along the first baseline.
00:50:07 They try to come home and not able to get the runner.
00:50:10 So first lead of the game for the Crawdads.
00:50:21 They trailed two to nothing.
00:50:22 They tied it up at two, and now they lead three to two.
00:50:25 Runner on first, one out.
00:50:26 Here's the right fielder, Jack Dobbins.
00:50:28 A bluff throw by Thompson to first base.
00:50:30 And the pitch is swung on and missed.
00:50:37 Dobbins struck out swinging back in the first.
00:50:40 (crowd murmuring)
00:50:43 All right, the bunt is down wide at third.
00:50:58 Throw to first is safe.
00:51:01 It'll be a bunt base hit by Dobbins.
00:51:04 Akers goes to second.
00:51:06 Akers doing a little bit of Freddy Astaire
00:51:09 dancing off of second because nobody's covering second.
00:51:11 Now they cover and Akers goes back to the bag.
00:51:14 So back to back bunt singles.
00:51:19 Small ball working very well in this inning
00:51:22 for the Crawdads.
00:51:24 So again, one run is in.
00:51:29 Runners on first and second, one out.
00:51:31 Here's Tayson Taylor, the center fielder.
00:51:35 He struck out swinging back in the first.
00:51:37 (crowd murmuring)
00:51:40 And the base umpire is warning
00:51:43 one of the coaches for the Crawdads.
00:51:47 I'm not quite sure what that's about.
00:51:48 The umpire's saying, "Hey, that's a warning, that's it."
00:51:52 And the pitch is high for a ball.
00:51:57 I mean, I don't know what controversy
00:51:59 the head coach of the team that's at the plate
00:52:02 is arguing about.
00:52:03 I mean, nothing really out of the ordinary happened.
00:52:08 So mystery theater.
00:52:09 The pitch is hit right back up the middle.
00:52:12 That'll be a base hit.
00:52:13 Possible play at the plate.
00:52:14 But instead, station to station, runners stop.
00:52:19 Everybody moves up 60 feet
00:52:20 and the bases are loaded with one out.
00:52:22 So three consecutive singles,
00:52:24 actually four consecutive singles
00:52:26 by Manfress, Akers, Dobbins, and now Taylor.
00:52:31 Bases loaded and one out.
00:52:34 And I think Thompson might be finished
00:52:39 despite the fact that he has struck out five
00:52:42 in two plus innings.
00:52:44 And they have given the ball to a new pitcher.
00:52:51 We'll try and pick up the number there.
00:52:54 The big guy, the little guy.
00:52:55 Third base taking a little siesta.
00:53:01 We're not in Spain, are we?
00:53:02 At two o'clock in the afternoon, are we?
00:53:04 Yeah, a little bit of a snow angel in July.
00:53:09 That's not something I thought I would ever say on the air.
00:53:12 All right, number eight has come in to pitch
00:53:15 for the Red Sox and that is Kane Shaker.
00:53:20 So Shaker starred the game in right field
00:53:23 and now he comes in for Thompson on the mound.
00:53:26 (crowd chattering)
00:53:29 Yeah, I'll tell you what, why don't we take a break
00:53:32 and we'll come back.
00:53:34 This is USSSALive.com.
00:53:36 (upbeat music)
00:53:43 (upbeat music)
00:53:46 (upbeat music)
00:53:49 (upbeat music)
00:54:17 (upbeat music)
00:54:45 (explosion)
00:54:47 Back pitching for a ball.
00:54:54 It's ball one, Warren Moriority is the batter.
00:54:58 So you have Akers on third, Dobbins on second,
00:55:01 Taylor on first, bases loaded, one out, one run in.
00:55:04 Crawdads lead a three to two, looking for more of the pitch.
00:55:07 Is off the outside corner.
00:55:09 And it's a two ball, no strike count on Warren Moriority
00:55:14 who's singled and scored back in the two run second inning.
00:55:17 And the pitch is hit to short on a hop.
00:55:23 They go to second for one and the balls drop,
00:55:26 no outs on the play.
00:55:28 Ball dropped by the second baseman,
00:55:29 so that's gonna have to be an E4.
00:55:31 So they tried to get the middle runner and they got nobody.
00:55:38 The bases remain loaded, another run is in.
00:55:41 So two runs are in, it's now four to two
00:55:44 in favor of the Crawdads.
00:55:45 And again the bases remain loaded.
00:55:47 Here's Brody Dirks, the extra hitter.
00:55:49 He struck out swinging back in the second.
00:55:51 Ground ball is short, could be two.
00:55:52 They go to second for one, on to first.
00:55:55 It's a double play, that time very nicely done.
00:55:59 Tinker to Evers to Chance, or in this case,
00:56:01 Williams to Walker to Russell.
00:56:04 Six to four to three and the inning is over.
00:56:07 So you add an error on the previous play
00:56:09 and then nicely turned, six four three double play.
00:56:12 Let's see if we get the replay here as we go to a break.
00:56:16 But that was nicely turned, a tailor made double play ball.
00:56:20 So a good inning though for the Crawdads.
00:56:22 They have scored two in each of the last two innings.
00:56:25 And as we go to break, here's a replay of the double play.
00:56:30 Nice pivot and throw to first and they just got 'em.
00:56:35 That was a bang bang play at first base.
00:56:38 So two runs for the Crawdads.
00:56:40 They lead four to two at the end of three.
00:56:41 We'll be back.
00:56:42 This is USSSALIVE.com.
00:56:44 (dramatic music)
00:56:53 (crowd cheering)
00:57:02 - Hey, you're coming up on 'em, let's go, kids.
00:57:06 (dramatic music)
00:57:08 (crowd cheering)
00:57:11 - Get up!
00:57:13 (crowd cheering)
00:57:16 - All right!
00:57:24 - Let's go!
00:57:32 (crowd cheering)
00:57:34 (dramatic music)
00:57:39 (upbeat music)
00:57:48 (crowd cheering)
00:57:51 (upbeat music)
00:57:54 (crowd cheering)
00:57:56 (upbeat music)
00:57:59 (crowd cheering)
00:58:02 (upbeat music)
00:58:04 (dramatic music)
00:58:31 (crowd cheering)
00:58:34 (upbeat music)
00:58:39 - All right, welcome back.
00:58:57 There's a shot of a bird on top
00:58:59 of one of the light standards.
00:59:01 Taking in the action.
00:59:03 No, Bob Uecker's not up there.
00:59:04 That'd be quite a view, wouldn't it?
00:59:07 High up in the air.
00:59:09 Look at that bird.
00:59:10 Doesn't have a worry in the world.
00:59:11 All right, we go to the top of the fourth inning.
00:59:15 Good ball game, four to two.
00:59:16 The Crawdads leading over the Red Sox.
00:59:18 Again, this is a Futures All-Star game.
00:59:21 Two teams that have representatives
00:59:23 from several different states.
00:59:26 All right, Ben George is the batter.
00:59:28 And that one, I think,
00:59:30 well, I guess it didn't hit him.
00:59:31 Let's see.
00:59:32 No, came close, though.
00:59:34 So, ball one on Ben George.
00:59:36 He had an RBI single back in the two-run first inning
00:59:40 for the Red Sox.
00:59:41 Pitch is outside for a ball.
00:59:45 A new pitcher for the Crawdads
00:59:49 is Warren Moriority, who started the game at short,
00:59:54 and he is now pitching.
00:59:56 So, Manfrest is out.
00:59:58 Pitch is in for a called strike.
00:59:59 I believe in the count of one and one on Ben George.
01:00:02 So, three, four, and five in the batting order.
01:00:04 Ben George, Jackson, Castagner, and Dean Russell.
01:00:08 And the pitcher's trying to get the attention of somebody.
01:00:17 Oh, the head coach has gotta come out.
01:00:20 Not quite sure what this is about.
01:00:21 So, we'll just call it Mystery Theater again.
01:00:23 I like the hat by the head coach.
01:00:26 He's looking quite dapper.
01:00:28 (crowd chattering)
01:00:31 So, I'm not quite sure what that was about,
01:00:33 but whatever it was about, the problem has been solved.
01:00:36 So, one ball, one strike count on Ben George.
01:00:40 Pitch is swung on a miss.
01:00:44 By the way, that head coach, it's Mike Russo.
01:00:47 Assistant coach is Adam Shager.
01:00:53 So, it'll be a one-two by Moriarty to George.
01:00:57 Swung on a miss, and they asked for stuff there
01:01:00 by Moriarty.
01:01:01 Outside pitch, George could not catch up to it.
01:01:04 That is the first strikeout for Moriarty.
01:01:06 That is the sixth time that the Red Sox have struck out.
01:01:10 One away here in the top of the fourth.
01:01:12 And now Jackson, Castagner, the extra hitter,
01:01:17 grounded out the third back in the first inning.
01:01:21 There you get a good look at Moriarty.
01:01:23 And the pitch is in for a called strike.
01:01:29 All in one, the count on Castagner, C-A-S-T-A-G-N-E-R.
01:01:35 Outfield pretty much shallow and straight away.
01:01:40 The pitch is high for a ball.
01:01:42 That'll even the count up one and one on Castagner.
01:01:46 On deck, Dean Russell.
01:01:48 (crowd chattering)
01:01:51 And the pitch way outside.
01:01:54 I wonder if Moriarty has a slider,
01:01:56 'cause that ball had a lot of movement on it.
01:01:59 Slider a little bit less taxing on the arm
01:02:04 than a curve ball.
01:02:05 Swung on and missed.
01:02:08 I don't think it's a sweeper,
01:02:12 and I don't think it's a slurve.
01:02:14 I'll tell you, pitches nowadays
01:02:16 have very sophisticated names.
01:02:19 And the pitch is swung on and missed.
01:02:29 So another strikeout.
01:02:31 That is the seventh time that the Red Sox
01:02:39 have struck out of this game.
01:02:41 We're only in the fourth inning.
01:02:43 (crowd chattering)
01:02:46 Some nice pitch there by Moriarty.
01:02:52 Two outs, nobody on here.
01:02:54 It's Dean Russell, the first baseman.
01:02:56 There's a pop up to left center field.
01:03:00 It's gonna fall for a base hit.
01:03:02 And it'll be a single for Russell
01:03:04 as he hit it in the left center field gap.
01:03:08 So Russell keeps the inning alive.
01:03:11 Two outs, one on first for Noah Valdivia, the extra hitter.
01:03:14 He had a soft line and a short back in the first inning.
01:03:19 So the Red Sox trailing 42 now
01:03:26 of the potential time run at the plate.
01:03:28 Pick off attempt, and the runner, Russell, gets back.
01:03:31 Philip Grant Pilketon still playing first base.
01:03:35 He is a tall young man.
01:03:37 (crowd chattering)
01:03:40 Pick off attempt, and the runner gets back again.
01:03:44 And another pick off attempt, and the runner gets back.
01:03:58 Again, in the major leagues, you're only allowed
01:04:00 two pick off attempts.
01:04:01 On the third attempt, you have to pick 'em off
01:04:03 or it's a balk.
01:04:06 And it's not translated down, I don't think,
01:04:07 yet to the 11-year-olds.
01:04:09 They have enough to think about out there.
01:04:11 Pitch on the way is swung on and missed.
01:04:13 So this is 11 and under.
01:04:18 I imagine some of these kids, maybe not all of 'em,
01:04:22 but some of them are going into the sixth grade probably.
01:04:25 Pitch on the way is a high fly ball, shallow left center.
01:04:32 Left center, center fielder and left fielder come together.
01:04:35 Unfortunately, not a collision, but they did cross paths,
01:04:38 and it was the center fielder, Taylor,
01:04:41 who made the catch, and the inning is over.
01:04:44 So, let's take a look at the replay there.
01:04:46 Both players converging on it.
01:04:48 And actually, you know what?
01:04:50 It was the left fielder that caught it.
01:04:51 Okay, that would be Stockton Gee.
01:04:54 So in any event, the inning's over.
01:04:56 Nothing across for the Red Sox at the top of the fourth inning.
01:04:59 We go to the bottom of the fourth.
01:05:00 It is 4-2 in favor of the Crawdads.
01:05:03 We'll be back, this is USSSALIVE.com.
01:05:05 - It started with a simple idea.
01:05:10 To break what the game knows.
01:05:13 To evolve the standard.
01:05:16 It's time to revolutionize defense.
01:05:19 Printed in 4D for a breakthrough in technology.
01:05:24 Ultra lightweight, resilient, form-fit,
01:05:29 game-ready and pro-tested.
01:05:32 (upbeat music)
01:05:34 Designed for a revolution.
01:05:36 Engineered for defense.
01:05:38 The Rev1 X.
01:05:40 (upbeat music)
01:05:49 (upbeat music)
01:05:52 (upbeat music)
01:05:54 (upbeat music)
01:05:57 (upbeat music)
01:06:00 (upbeat music)
01:06:03 (upbeat music)
01:06:06 (upbeat music)
01:06:10 (upbeat music)
01:06:14 (upbeat music)
01:06:18 (upbeat music)
01:06:23 (upbeat music)
01:06:25 - All right, we go to the bottom of the fourth inning.
01:06:37 Again, we are at the U-SSSA Space Coast Complex.
01:06:41 A beautiful facility with about 15 fields.
01:06:44 Even mixture of baseball and softball.
01:06:46 Then you got the big stadium.
01:06:52 And there you get a look at Stadium Parkway.
01:06:54 Which doesn't look very busy right now.
01:06:56 I guess people are in church.
01:06:58 So the traffic's a little bit light now.
01:07:00 But it'll pick up as we get through the day.
01:07:03 Again, another hot Sunday here in Central Florida.
01:07:07 There's Old Glory, we always salute you.
01:07:09 This is the next to last Sunday in July.
01:07:13 Got one more and then we get into August.
01:07:15 Can't wait.
01:07:16 That one is a new special.
01:07:19 Behind old plate, the mascot was not available.
01:07:22 So leading off is Phillip Grant Pilkington.
01:07:26 For the Crawdads who lead four to two
01:07:28 here in the bottom of the fourth.
01:07:29 Pilkington hit a tapper back to the pitcher's circle
01:07:32 back in the second inning.
01:07:35 Pitch is outside for a ball.
01:07:37 Let's double check the pitcher here.
01:07:39 Number eight.
01:07:40 That's right, Cain Shager, he came in the last inning.
01:07:45 So Shager in for his second inning of work.
01:07:47 Swung on and a foul ball behind old plate.
01:07:51 Pilkington just getting a piece of it.
01:07:53 That's a two and one.
01:07:54 So Pilkington, Durham, and Gee,
01:07:59 six, seven, and eight in the batting order
01:08:00 for the Crawdads who again lead it four to two.
01:08:03 It'll be a two-one.
01:08:04 And the pitch inside for a ball.
01:08:07 The count goes to a three and one.
01:08:09 And the pitch is swung on and missed, three and two.
01:08:21 This is the first time I've really seen
01:08:22 the center fielder on either team play pretty deep.
01:08:24 So he got, I assume that's still Caden Williams in center.
01:08:28 He's playing pretty deep against this guy Pilkington.
01:08:31 Pitch is inside and it's ball four.
01:08:33 But I'll tell you, Pilkington,
01:08:34 if he's going into sixth grade in his class,
01:08:37 wherever he happens to be from,
01:08:38 he's gonna be one of the taller people in his class.
01:08:41 He's gotta be, I guess, six feet.
01:08:44 Wow.
01:08:46 So he gets the walk and that'll bring up
01:08:47 the Lays Durham, the third baseman.
01:08:49 He had an RBI single back in the second.
01:08:51 So that's the first walk allowed by Shager.
01:08:59 And that in fact is the first time
01:09:03 that the Crawdads have walked in this game.
01:09:07 The previous pitcher Thompson,
01:09:10 he, you know, Thompson didn't pitch that badly.
01:09:13 He actually struck out five, didn't walk anybody,
01:09:15 but he did give up four runs.
01:09:19 - Hey, turn up here, boys.
01:09:20 - So here's Lays Durham.
01:09:22 And we're in the bottom of the fourth,
01:09:27 four-two lead for the Crawdads.
01:09:29 The bunt is put down, goes back to Shager,
01:09:31 throws to first and in time.
01:09:33 So I'm gonna call that a sacrifice.
01:09:36 One-three successful, moving Pilkington up to second.
01:09:39 Yeah, the bunt was successful.
01:09:47 Didn't exactly have the bat kind of in the right position,
01:09:49 but it still put the ball down in a way
01:09:53 that it kind of looked like a bunt.
01:09:55 So Pilkington on second.
01:09:57 Here's Stockton Gee trying to bring him home.
01:10:00 Gee walked back in the second inning.
01:10:03 Pitch in for a ball, it's ball one.
01:10:07 So actually, two walks that the Crawdads have had
01:10:11 against Red Sox pitching.
01:10:12 (crowd chattering)
01:10:15 So Pilkington leading off a second.
01:10:19 There's a check swing.
01:10:20 Back to Shager, throws to first in time.
01:10:22 Nice scoop there, low throw, but Russell dug it out.
01:10:26 And that moves Pilkington to third.
01:10:29 So runner on third, two outs.
01:10:34 And here's Cale Daniel, the second baseman.
01:10:37 He grounded out to third back in the second inning.
01:10:41 (crowd chattering)
01:10:43 So a chance for the Crawdads to try
01:10:44 and tack on another run.
01:10:46 Pick off attempt, and Pilkington gets back.
01:10:48 And on the pitcher, Shager,
01:10:53 I'm just worried about the batter.
01:10:55 I mean, he got two outs.
01:10:56 Pitch is inside, that was way inside
01:11:00 behind the back of Daniel, ball one.
01:11:03 Well again, one thing you don't wanna do,
01:11:06 especially with two outs,
01:11:07 but really with nobody out if there was.
01:11:09 You don't wanna throw a wild pitch.
01:11:12 Swung on, a miss.
01:11:13 That'll leave with a count of one and one.
01:11:16 On Cale Daniel, who again grounded out to third
01:11:18 back in the second inning.
01:11:20 Outfield very shallow and straight away against Daniel.
01:11:23 So it'll be a one-one coming up.
01:11:26 There's a ground ball hit wide at third.
01:11:30 Deep shortstop, it actually goes to the left field
01:11:32 for a base hit.
01:11:33 So that'll be an RBI single for Cale Daniel,
01:11:36 scoring Philip Grant Pilkington.
01:11:38 And it's now five to two in favor of the Crawdads.
01:11:42 That ball got by the third baseman Jennings
01:11:49 and the shortstop Williams.
01:11:52 So Daniel leading off a first.
01:11:55 Here's Landon Gaskins, the extra hitter.
01:11:57 Runner goes, steals second successful.
01:12:01 Sliding in is Daniel.
01:12:02 (crowd applauding)
01:12:05 So it should be a ball one count on Gaskins,
01:12:11 who struck out looking back in the third inning.
01:12:14 Oh, it hit him.
01:12:18 That's our first hit batter by either team.
01:12:20 So Gaskins will go down to first base.
01:12:30 And I believe that's gonna bring up Oakley Manfress.
01:12:33 Gonna double check here, 15.
01:12:36 Yeah, so Manfress is gonna bat in his usual spot.
01:12:41 So Manfress was the starting pitcher
01:12:43 and he's actually switched to catcher
01:12:45 because he was getting the catching gear off.
01:12:47 And the pitch is high for a ball.
01:12:51 You'll see that somewhat at this age.
01:12:55 A pitcher comes out of the game and goes to catcher.
01:12:57 I mean, you never see it in the major leagues.
01:12:59 (crowd chattering)
01:13:02 All right, the ball one pitch is outside.
01:13:07 And it's ball one on Oakley Manfress,
01:13:12 who singled and scored back in the third inning.
01:13:14 So runners lead from first and second two outs.
01:13:18 First baseman Russell not holding on to the runner.
01:13:21 The pitch is a check swing.
01:13:25 And I guess he did not swing.
01:13:26 The ball loose but picked up.
01:13:28 Runners stay at first and second.
01:13:30 So it's a three ball count on Manfress.
01:13:34 Again, he is the 11th and last batter.
01:13:37 The lineup flips to Brandon Akers, who's on deck.
01:13:39 The pitch is inside and it's a four pitch walk to Manfress.
01:13:46 And now the bases are loaded.
01:13:47 So for the Crawdads, that's the third walk
01:13:54 they have picked up in this game.
01:13:58 We go back to the top of the batting order
01:13:59 and Brandon Akers, who is no longer catching.
01:14:03 I'm not quite sure what position he's playing,
01:14:04 but he wasn't, he was catching earlier.
01:14:09 Little bit of a delay as the coaches
01:14:15 were getting some things together.
01:14:17 So Akers will come up for the third time.
01:14:22 One for two, struck out looking at the first,
01:14:24 had a bunt single in the third inning.
01:14:28 So bases loaded, two outs.
01:14:31 And the pitch is in for a ball, it's ball one.
01:14:36 So Kane Shager trying to get out of this.
01:14:48 They got the runner picked off and it's a wild throw.
01:14:51 That scores one run, it's probably gonna score two
01:14:54 as it's down the left field line.
01:14:56 So two runs are gonna score,
01:14:58 so that's gonna be a throwing error on the pitcher.
01:15:00 Kane Shager trying to pick the runner off at third.
01:15:03 I don't know if, see if we get a replay on that.
01:15:06 Should the ball have been caught
01:15:08 or was it an error throw?
01:15:10 In any event, two runs have scored.
01:15:16 And now a runner on third base.
01:15:22 And the pitch is swung on a miss.
01:15:26 You know again, that's, you know not to be critical,
01:15:28 these are 11 year olds, but you know when you have two outs,
01:15:31 you really need to just focus on the batter.
01:15:33 And that ball was a little bit wide,
01:15:36 so I'm gonna have to give a throwing error to Shager.
01:15:38 So it's now seven to two.
01:15:44 There's a ground ball to middle, base hit,
01:15:46 and another run for the Crawdads.
01:15:49 So it's now a four run inning and they're now up eight to two.
01:15:53 (crowd cheering)
01:15:55 So Shager could have been out of the inning
01:15:59 with just one run scored, but instead they're now four in.
01:16:02 Orby I single by Acres.
01:16:05 And that'll bring up the eighth batter in this inning,
01:16:13 Jack Dobbins, the right fielder.
01:16:15 He is one for two at a punt single back in the third.
01:16:18 And low bridge is over his head
01:16:20 and that'll be a wild pitch.
01:16:22 And that'll move Acres up to second.
01:16:24 So the proverbial wheel's falling off the wagon
01:16:30 a little bit here for the Red Sox.
01:16:34 And the pitch, swung on and missed.
01:16:41 Again, Jack Dobbins is the batter.
01:16:44 It's a one ball, one strike count.
01:16:51 - Turn it off and let's go.
01:16:52 - And the pitch inside, almost hit him,
01:16:57 two and one the count.
01:16:58 Not sure if there's a time limit on this game.
01:17:04 We started a little bit after eight.
01:17:07 About an hour and 15 minutes in.
01:17:12 There's a ground ball hit back to Shager,
01:17:14 throw to first is in time and the inning is over.
01:17:17 But a big inning for the Crawdads
01:17:20 as they send eight batters to the plate.
01:17:22 They score four runs on just two hits.
01:17:27 So we go to the top of the fifth inning.
01:17:29 It is the Crawdads eight and the Red Sox two.
01:17:33 So we'll be right back.
01:17:34 This is USSSALive.com.

01:20:03 - Welcome back.
01:20:04 The Birds, not to be confused with the musical group
01:20:06 of the 60s, those are two actual birds.
01:20:09 That's nice that they have partners.
01:20:10 They can both watch the game together.
01:20:12 Let's see, that's the light standard
01:20:17 down the left field line, I believe.
01:20:19 Yeah, interesting seat.
01:20:20 That's about a dollar seat there.
01:20:22 Oh, one of them flew away.
01:20:24 And the other one flies away.
01:20:25 Okay, they're both gone.
01:20:26 All right, top of the fifth inning.
01:20:30 There's a look at Warren Moriority
01:20:32 that came in relief of Oakley Manfress.
01:20:35 And the pitch is hit in the left field.
01:20:39 That'll be a base hit.
01:20:40 They are gonna throw it to first,
01:20:42 all the way from left field.
01:20:44 And nice catch by the first baseman.
01:20:47 I've never seen a seven to three put out in my life.
01:20:51 That one really wasn't too close.
01:20:54 That was Blake Jennings, who hit it to left field.
01:20:58 And not the fleet is to foots.
01:21:00 The left fielder said,
01:21:01 "No, I'm gonna try and throw him out."
01:21:03 And almost a wild throw.
01:21:06 Nice reel in there by the first baseman.
01:21:09 So here's Travis Thompson, who started off pitching.
01:21:15 He's now playing another position.
01:21:16 In fact, he might be an extra hitter
01:21:18 because I have not seen him,
01:21:20 I did not see him move to another position.
01:21:22 Well again, it's eight to two in favor of the Crawdads.
01:21:26 So the Red Sox are up here in the fifth inning.
01:21:28 Again, we're scheduled for six.
01:21:30 Again, the time limit might kick in at some point.
01:21:33 So they have a six run deficit.
01:21:35 They have a lot of work to do
01:21:36 to try and get back in this one.
01:21:38 Runner on first, nobody out.
01:21:41 Pitch to Thompson is way outside.
01:21:42 Nice reel in by the catcher.
01:21:45 I wanna assume that's still Acres.
01:21:46 And it's a ball one count.
01:21:54 And a pick off attempt.
01:21:58 And I guess the pitcher stepped off.
01:22:00 He can't fake it to first.
01:22:01 And time is called.
01:22:07 You know, again, I like kind of describing what's going on.
01:22:10 You know, Moriarty, the pitcher, has a six run lead.
01:22:14 I would not worry about the base runner too much.
01:22:16 Swung on and missed.
01:22:17 I mean, you really need to focus on the batter.
01:22:24 You don't wanna give the Red Sox any glimpse of a comeback.
01:22:30 The pitch.
01:22:32 Oh, it hit him.
01:22:33 That's another reason to focus on the batter.
01:22:35 You hit the batter.
01:22:36 So Jennings will go up to second.
01:22:38 And Thompson gets hit by the pitch.
01:22:40 Fortunately hit him on a good side of the body.
01:22:42 He's okay.
01:22:43 He probably felt it though.
01:22:45 So each team has a hit batter in this game.
01:22:51 So Jennings on second.
01:22:55 Thompson on first.
01:22:56 Nobody out.
01:22:57 And they're gonna need some more base runners
01:23:00 and some more hits to try and make this
01:23:01 a little more interesting.
01:23:02 Will Rousseau is gonna be the batter.
01:23:06 He's gonna talk to his head coach first
01:23:07 down the third base side.
01:23:09 I would think the sacrifice would not be an option here
01:23:16 because you're down by six.
01:23:18 But let's see what Rousseau was told by his third base coach.
01:23:22 When you're down by six,
01:23:24 you don't really wanna give up and out.
01:23:27 And he is set to swing away.
01:23:30 Does not offer at it.
01:23:31 It's ball one.
01:23:32 Rousseau grounded out the short back in the second inning.
01:23:35 And the pitch is hit right up the middle
01:23:42 but caught by the pitcher.
01:23:44 Throw to second for one.
01:23:46 On to first, dugout, double play.
01:23:48 Oh, great digout by the first baseman.
01:23:51 That is not Pilkington.
01:23:52 They have a new first baseman.
01:23:54 I'll try and pick up the number.
01:23:55 That was a great scoop.
01:23:56 I think it's 71.
01:23:57 Wow, what a pickup.
01:23:58 Blaise Durham who was playing third base
01:24:01 is now playing first.
01:24:03 And a great backhanded stab on the receiving end.
01:24:09 So that is a one to four to three.
01:24:12 Wow, he picked it off like Keith Hernandez
01:24:16 from the '86 Mets.
01:24:17 Pitch is outside for a ball.
01:24:20 Cain Shaker is the batter.
01:24:23 So one, four, three, double play,
01:24:26 and Jennings moved to third but now two outs.
01:24:30 Shaker popped up the short back in the third inning.
01:24:33 Takes the pitch outside.
01:24:34 Let's double check the count.
01:24:38 I think it might be one and one.
01:24:39 Oh, the umpire's not flashing it.
01:24:41 The pitch is outside, so at least two balls.
01:24:47 Oh, now he's gonna flash it.
01:24:49 Actually, three and O is the count.
01:24:51 (crowd chattering)
01:24:53 And Moriarty with the pitch, and it's inside, ball four.
01:25:01 So Shaker keeps the inning going by walking.
01:25:05 For Moriarty, that's his first walk of the game,
01:25:13 and it's only the second time
01:25:14 that the Red Sox have walked in the game.
01:25:17 Here's Amari Williams, the shortstop.
01:25:20 He's struck out swinging in the third.
01:25:22 Runners on first and third pitch outside for a ball,
01:25:25 and it's a ball once.
01:25:26 So really that double play was critical.
01:25:31 It's probably gonna neutralize a big inning.
01:25:33 Williams trying to keep things going.
01:25:36 Easy steal of second, pitch outside for a ball.
01:25:39 And I can't fault Moriarty.
01:25:41 You know, you're up by six.
01:25:42 He didn't even pay attention to the first base runner,
01:25:46 and he doesn't have to.
01:25:47 He's got two outs.
01:25:48 But it is an easy steal for Shaker.
01:25:51 Pitch in for a called strike, two and one.
01:25:54 The count on Shaker, Amari Williams is,
01:25:56 or actually this is Williams, I'm sorry.
01:25:58 There's a pop-up foul behind home plate
01:26:05 and over to the right.
01:26:06 And it's a two ball and two strike count.
01:26:11 Now the Red Sox have not scored
01:26:17 since they scored two in the first.

01:48:25 So Durham started the game at third base.

01:48:28 Now he comes in to pitch.
01:48:30 So he'll throw in his warmup pitches.

01:48:44 and now it's eight to six.
01:48:46 You just never know in baseball.
01:48:49 So I will say this, and again,

01:48:59 which you might be,
01:49:00 I'd like to thank everybody for tuning in.
01:49:03 Again, both these teams have multiple states represented.
01:49:09 Again, the Red Sox have players from Indiana,

01:49:17 So I hope we have at least one person
01:49:19 listening from all those states.
01:49:21 And the Crawdads have players from Arkansas,
01:49:25 North Carolina, Texas, Mississippi, Ohio,
01:49:30 Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Kansas.
01:49:34 So hopefully, USSSAlive.com are getting

01:49:41 I don't think we're gonna have all 50,
01:49:43 but we might have one fifth of the union tuning in,
01:49:46 maybe 10 states.
01:49:48 All right, so Durham definitely qualifies for a save here.
01:49:54 And the batter is Will Rousseau, who is 0 for 2.
01:49:58 He's grounded out the short
01:49:59 and he's hitting it a 1-4-3 double play.
01:50:02 So the tying run is on at second base.
01:50:04 Dramatic developments here at Fast Pitch Stadium
01:50:08 at USSSA, the pitch is fouled off.
01:50:11 So good start for Durham, he gets strike one on Rousseau.
01:50:16 So Jennings is on third,
01:50:21 and Thompson is on second after doubling.
01:50:24 The pitch is a wild pitch,
01:50:29 but actually it won't go down as that
01:50:30 because it comes right back to the catcher, so no advance.
01:50:33 (crowd clapping)
01:50:37 It's a little bit too much mustard in that pitch by Durham.
01:50:40 So one and one is the count.
01:50:45 And the pitch is hit up the middle to second.
01:50:51 That'll be an infield hit, one run is in,
01:50:53 and it's down eight to seven.
01:50:56 So nice play by the second baseman
01:50:58 just to get to that ball and keep it in the infield
01:51:00 because if he doesn't,
01:51:02 then Thompson would have scored the tying run,
01:51:04 but he had to stop at third.
01:51:06 Well now it's eight to seven, so the drama continues.
01:51:09 So Jennings scored from third,
01:51:13 going from second to third is Thompson.
01:51:16 So now the tying run is on at third base,
01:51:19 just 60 feet away, and we've got a steal of second.
01:51:22 The pitch is outside for a ball,
01:51:23 now the go-ahead run goes to second base.
01:51:27 Again, keep in mind if we have a tie game
01:51:30 or if the Red Sox take the lead,
01:51:32 then the Crawdads would bat in the bottom of the inning,
01:51:35 catch it for a strike.
01:51:36 So again, it's a five run sixth inning,
01:51:39 it's a one-two count on Kane Shager,
01:51:42 who's O for one and a walk.
01:51:44 Second to third, two outs, the pitch is inside,
01:51:48 it's two and two.
01:51:49 So it's up to Shager to try and keep this game going,
01:51:52 at least tie the game, if not have his team take the lead.
01:51:56 A single will probably do it for the lead.
01:51:59 The two-two pitch is a little chopper, but it's foul.
01:52:03 It goes behind home plate, the count remains.
01:52:06 I believe it's two and two.
01:52:08 So the Red Sox have made this game a lot more interesting.
01:52:15 It was eight to two to start the inning,
01:52:18 it is now eight to seven, and double-checking the count,
01:52:22 it is two and two on Shager,
01:52:24 and the pitch by Durham is high for a ball,
01:52:27 and it's three and two.
01:52:31 So three and two is the count.
01:52:33 So it'll be a three-two.
01:52:39 And it's in for a call, strike three,
01:52:44 and hang on for dear life are the Clawdads,
01:52:47 they win it by the score of eight to seven,
01:52:50 but boy, what an attempted comeback by the Red Sox.
01:52:53 They did not give up, they score five in the sixth,
01:52:56 they needed at least six to get this game
01:53:00 to the bottom of the sixth inning,
01:53:01 but not able to do it as Durham will come in,
01:53:05 get the save as Shager strikes out,
01:53:08 looking on a very close pitch.
01:53:11 That pitch could have gone either way.
01:53:13 It went the way of the Clawdads,
01:53:15 so this is the semifinal game,
01:53:19 so the Clawdads move on to the championship game
01:53:23 as both teams shake hands,
01:53:24 but boy, what a top of the sixth inning
01:53:26 it was for the Red Sox,
01:53:27 and they were up for almost a half an hour,
01:53:29 scored five, needed six, they fall short,
01:53:32 and the Clawdads lead it,
01:53:34 or actually win it by the score of eight to seven.
01:53:37 All right, I'm JC Myhrelds,
01:53:39 I assume coming up next will be a championship game.
01:53:41 (crowd cheering)
01:53:42 Probably gonna take at least a 20, 25 minute break,
01:53:45 so if you're looking for the 10 o'clock game,
01:53:48 it is not gonna start at 10 o'clock Eastern time,
01:53:50 more like 10, 20 possibly.
01:53:52 So we'll be back a little bit later.
01:53:55 Thank you for tuning in as we get a final shot
01:53:58 of the bird flying off in the distance,
01:54:00 taking off from runway number two,
01:54:03 and you'll see some post-game highlights as we go to break,
01:54:07 but thanks for tuning in, JC Myhrelds signing off.
