Stephen Curry’s new film Underrated is available now on AppleTV+ and Curry joined Sports Illustrated to discuss the documentary and other topics, like his chances at turning pro in golf and his longstanding rivalry with LeBron James.

00:04 - I feel like I could get there,

00:06 but I also know it'd be a lot harder

00:32 How do you feel about how you're evaluated now?

00:34 Or is there a part of you that still goes,

00:36 you know, 2023 Steph Curry's underrated

00:39 when you don't see yourself number one

00:40 on somebody's best players in the NBA list?

00:42 - Yeah, I guess the narrative or the specifics

00:47 of how my game is viewed has changed

00:50 with some of the success I've had

00:52 in over these last 14 years.

00:54 But I can still tap into that underrated mindset

00:57 that's, you know, kind of pushed me

01:01 to where I'm at right now.

01:02 And to be able to help, you know,

01:04 or be a part of this project and tell that story

01:06 of the origin of my journey, my career,

01:10 the formative years at Davidson.

01:13 And where that underrated, you know,

01:14 mindset really kind of cemented itself.

01:18 It's a special experience and opportunity.

01:23 And it's not just a sports or a basketball story.

01:26 I think there's things in there for people

01:27 from all walks of life.

01:29 And like you said, the biggest thing is

01:31 I still keep that underrated DNA

01:33 and I can tap into it even for this outcome here

02:37 - The Steph-LeBron rivalry.

02:40 - I mean, underrated in the sense of

02:48 it's gonna be really hard to find

02:51 two teams going four years in a row in the finals

02:56 just way out the way the NBA landscape is going.

02:59 So that'll go down in history as four amazing years.

03:04 - Is there one word you'd use to describe

03:06 your relationship with LeBron?

03:07 'Cause there is a scene in the movie

03:08 where he goes to watch you at Davidson.

03:10 I remember that part as well.

03:13 - Yeah, I mean, it's,

03:16 what's the only one word?

03:20 It's complex because you go from,

03:23 you know, me playing in the tournament,

03:26 him coming to watch,

03:27 to me coming in as a young rookie in the league

03:34 and him giving me advice on how to, you know,

03:36 get through some of the early struggles

03:38 that I was gonna go through as a player,

03:39 to, you know, the four finals appearances in a row

03:44 playing against each other,

03:46 to even last year,

03:48 what's seven, five, six years later,

03:52 we're playing in the playoffs again.

03:53 So it's,

03:54 he's a great dude, great friend,

03:58 great competitor, all the above,

04:01 but he, it's amazing to go back

04:04 and look at where it all started,

04:06 at Ford Field in Detroit in the Sweet 16 game.

04:10 - One more in the spirit of your hole-in-one the other day,

04:12 it started a big debate about,

04:14 well, you know, Rob Gronkowski had said

04:15 you could play pro golf.

04:16 If you decided to put your focus there,

04:18 do you think that's something you could do?

04:19 - It's something that I would be confident

04:21 I could work towards because that's the competitor in me,

04:25 but I say that with a caveat of complete and utter respect

04:29 for the professional golfers out there

04:31 that have dedicated their lives to it,

04:33 because I do understand how hard it would be.

04:36 And so both can be true.

04:39 I feel like I could get there,

04:40 but I also know it'd be a lot harder

04:44 than probably success in basketball for me.
