00:02 Wolves in Northern Canada are the largest
00:09 and most powerful in the world,
00:10 and they're setting out to hunt.
00:12 The pack is 25 strong,
00:18 a sign that the prey they're seeking is formidable.
00:21 These bison are even bigger than their southern cousins.
00:29 And the largest land animals in North America.
00:32 For generations, wolves and bison here
00:38 have been shaped by their battles with each other,
00:41 making each the most impressive of its kind.
00:43 The wolves are closing in,
00:49 but their chance of ambushing the bison in the woods
00:53 has passed.
00:54 Their prey are now in the open
00:56 and grouped together for safety.
00:59 (wolves growling)
01:02 The wolves will need to work as a team
01:04 if they're to make a kill.
01:06 They circle the herd,
01:11 trying to unsettle it and split it up.
01:14 But the bison are armed and dangerous.
01:17 They will be safe as long as they stick together.
01:20 The pack here up their game,
01:24 hurrying the herd,
01:26 a ploy to trigger a stampede,
01:28 and split away one of the smaller ones.
01:30 The bison form a defensive circle around their young,
01:35 horns pointing outwards.
01:37 The wolves need a bison to break rank.
01:46 The young ambushed one, on the other hand,
01:50 is fighting to defend himself from this ferocious predator
01:53 as the other wolf decided to join its back.
01:56 (wolves howling)
01:59 The pack focused their attention on the rear of the herd.
02:04 And the bison began to panic.
02:10 (wolves growling)
02:16 (bison growling)
02:19 A young bison falls behind.
02:30 Even this yearling dwarfs the wolf.
02:44 Running head down, the herd's only thought is escape.
02:47 A stroke of luck for the wolves.
02:55 The kill will feed the pack for several days.
03:14 And then they will have to resume the chase.
03:16 At the frozen ends of our planet,
03:19 the struggle for survival never ceases.
03:22 United we hunt, divided we fall.
03:27 The wisdom of joining forces to take down prey
03:33 outweighs the risk of hunting alone.
