Zebra Stallion Tried to Get Rid of his Harem's Foal

Transcript
00:00 Plain zebras have to navigate complex social systems.
00:07 Dominant males usually reign over a harem of as many as six females.
00:13 Dominant stallions will readily fire off challenges from competing brachios,
00:21 and fierce clashes involving much biting and kicking often break out.
00:27 If a challenging bachelor comes out of a scuffle on top,
00:37 the loser will relinquish his harem to join a bachelor herd.
00:41 And this is where things can take a dark turn.
00:46 If the females in the harem have recently given birth,
00:51 the new dominant male may kill the foals
00:54 to eliminate any traces of his predecessor.
00:58 This newborn zebra is not welcomed by this dominant male.
01:10 This is one of the most extreme wildlife scenes ever.
01:15 Even if this mother zebra is one of his harems,
01:19 she always consists in saving her child.
01:24 The foal has no choice,
01:32 either to be killed by the new stallion,
01:35 or to be miraculously saved by his mother.
01:39 After an incredibly long and violent battle,
01:58 the mother managed to save her baby from that wild stallion.
02:02 But she must be careful in the next few days,
02:08 where the foal still does not have enough strength to save himself.
