EJ Obiena climbs to number 2 in world rankings

00:21 international tournaments and making history, regional and continental record
00:24 holder EJ Obiena now holds the number two spot of the World Athletics' mess
00:29 pole vault rankings. The 28-year-old Thunderborn athlete announced the good
00:33 news in his social media page earlier this morning where he expressed his
00:37 gratitude to all the people who helped him go through his ordeals. With a total
00:41 of 1432 points to his name, Obiena now stands closely behind defending Olympic
00:47 champion and world record holder Armando Plantis with 1569 points. USA pole
00:53 vault pride Christopher Nielsen has the third spot with a mere four points
00:56 behind Obiena's score. The Italy-based vaulter is the only Asian who made it to
01:00 the top 19 world standing as Ersu Sasma of Turkey got the 20th spot. Obiena
01:05 got the Philippines best ranking in World Athletics after clinching his
01:09 second Asian Championships gold medal just last week in Thailand. Meanwhile
01:14 2023 Cambodia's SEA Games gold medalist Janu Ubas garnered another gold at the
01:19 Motone Grand Prix Lapin Ranta held in Finland today. Ubas' best jump
01:23 registered at 7.86 meters at the World Athletics bronze-rated meet which could
01:28 possibly give him 60 points more. Ubas is now in the 53rd spot for the world
01:33 long jump rankings with 1160 points. The Misamis Oriental native is now trying to
01:39 get a ticket to the 32 quota places of the 2024 Paris Olympics men's long jump
01:44 event. He has two more WA continental tour challengers to tackle in Italy and
01:49 Germany on July 22 and 29 respectively. When Ubas jumps to the 8.27 entry
01:54 standard for his event this will give him an outright first to the 2024
