00:06 A new study finds being overweight is not linked
00:10 to an increase in death when considered separately
00:12 from other health issues.
00:14 The study found people ages 20 to 65 showed no significant
00:19 increase in mortality for those who are overweight.
00:21 However, the researchers caution
00:24 that being overweight is a significant factor
00:26 for future diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease
00:31 and hypertension.
00:32 Experts say any discussion
00:34 over how fat mass is measured does not change what science
00:37 knows about the impact of excess weight upon the body,
00:40 especially visceral fat
00:42 around the stomach affecting the vital organs.
00:45 In short, being overweight is not a death sentence,
00:49 but the complications which come with excess fat can lead
00:54 to a very poor quality of life.
