While returning from a gaming store, Kazuma Satou, a reserved high school student, met an unfavorable and gloomy end. In his afterlife, he encountered Aqua - a beautiful goddess whose unpleasant attitude threatened to spoil his experience. He was given two choices: ascending to heaven or being reborn in a fantasy realm catered to every gamer's dream. Kazuma preferred the latter option. His first task was to defeat a Demon King causing chaos in the villages to protect the fantasy world's inhabitants. Kazuma chose Aqua from a range of options but soon realized his mistake; she wasn't helpful at all. Living in this new world was expensive, and they had to pay for their basic necessities. Learning that living in a game world was unlike the real world was a harsh truth. Their bad luck only added more difficulties.
