00:00Yeah, Elmo's excited too, Tango.
00:04Oh, hey, welcome to Sesame Street.
00:07Hi.
00:08Elmo's mailing his very first letter.
00:11Daddy said if Elmo was to get a letter, Elmo has to mail a letter.
00:16Elmo's just waiting for the mail carrier to get here.
00:19When will Miss Hampton be here?
00:20Soon, son.
00:22Mail carriers have a lot of mail to deliver.
00:25It takes time.
00:26No, Tango, that's not the mail carrier, that's Oscar.
00:31Hey, hey, cut that out now.
00:34Ah, Tango loves Oscar.
00:36Hey, don't drag my name into that mushy love stuff.
00:41So you mailing that letter or what?
00:43Oh, yeah, this is Elmo's very first letter, Oscar.
00:46Elmo's just waiting for the mail carrier.
00:49Huh.
00:50Oh, here she comes.
00:51Oh, hi, Miss Hampton.
00:52Oh, hello, Tango.
00:54What a greeting.
00:55Oh, Tango must know how important you mail carriers are.
00:59It's about time you got here.
01:01Listen, I got a lot of letters, and I need them to get lost right away.
01:05Lost?
01:06Well, yeah, sure.
01:07Every time I mail a letter, it gets lost.
01:11There's nothing better than lost mail.
01:14Oh, but Elmo doesn't write this letter to get lost.
01:16It's very special.
01:18Don't worry, Elmo.
01:20Oscar's letters always get lost because he doesn't put an address on them.
01:23The address tells the mail carrier where to deliver the letter.
01:27I don't put a stamp on either.
01:29It's against the Grouch's principles.
01:30Oscar, you know you have to put a stamp on a letter in order for it to be delivered.
01:35Who wants it to get delivered?
01:37Oh, well, Elmo's mommy helped Elmo put an address and a stamp on his letter.
01:41Excellent.
01:41Then we won't have any problems getting the letter to go where it needs to go.
01:45Yeah, well, good luck delivering my letters.
01:48Oh, Oscar.
01:51Are you ready to mail your letter, son?
01:54Yes.
01:55Oh, it's really dark in there.
02:00Elmo doesn't want to put his letter in there.
02:02Elmo doesn't want anything to happen to it.
02:04Nothing's going to happen to it, son.
02:07I mail letters all the time.
02:09Yeah, but this is Elmo's very first letter, Daddy.
02:12It's very important.
02:13Tell you what, Elmo, why don't you come with me to the post office?
02:17Then you can see exactly what happens to your letter.
02:20Is that okay with you, Louie?
02:22Oh, yeah.
02:23Can Elmo go, Daddy?
02:24Please, please, please.
02:24Of course you can.
02:26Then you'll understand what an important job Miss Hampton has.
02:31Mail carriers are everyday heroes.
02:34Daddy, what's an everyday hero?
02:36Oh, an everyday hero is someone who is kind and helps people.
02:42Miss Hampton is a mail carrier who helps us stay connected to each other.
02:47Thanks, Louie.
02:49But Elmo can't wait.
02:50Let's go.
02:51But first you need to put your letter in the mailbox.
02:54Um, well, okay.
02:59There.
03:00Attaboy.
03:01I'll see you later, Elmo.
03:03Okay.
03:04Come on, Tangle.
03:05Time for lunch.
03:06Elmo will see you soon, Tangle.
03:07I love you.
03:08Bye-bye.
03:09Now I'll just take the mail out with my key.
03:12Uh-huh.
03:13There.
03:13We'll take it to the post office.
03:15Oh, Elmo's letter, too?
03:17Yours, too.
03:19Let's go.
03:19Okay.
03:20Here we are at the post office.
03:26Every package and every letter that's mail comes here before it's delivered.
03:30Wow.
03:31Well, what's going to happen to Elmo's letter now?
03:33Well, after the mail is picked up, it's brought here to the post office.
03:37I can show you what happens inside.
03:39Watch this.
03:40Okay.
03:42Look, the letters are going down the slide.
03:47Elmo's never seen so many letters.
03:50That's a conveyor belt, Elmo.
03:51Your letter's about to get sorted.
03:54Wow.
03:55Elmo's letter is going on a really fast ride.
03:58Fast part, letter.
03:59That's a sorting machine, Elmo.
04:01The letters get sorted according to where they're going all over the country and the world.
04:07Oh.
04:08But how will Elmo's letter end up in the right place?
04:11It's got a zip code on it.
04:13That's a number that tells what post office it goes to.
04:18And then it gets delivered by a mail carrier like me.
04:21These are all the letters and packages I have to deliver today.
04:24Ha, ha, ha.
04:25Oh, is Elmo's letter in there?
04:27It sure is.
04:28Oh, oh, oh.
04:29Can Ms. Hampton deliver it right away?
04:31Please, please?
04:32I have a lot of other letters and packages to deliver first, Elmo.
04:35Want to be my assistant today?
04:38Really?
04:38Oh, boy.
04:39Elmo's a mail carrier.
04:41Ha, ha, ha.
04:42Let's go.
04:43Okay.
04:44Oh, he's heavy.
04:46Mail carriers must have strong muscles.
04:53First stop.
04:54Wow.
04:55That's a really big building.
04:57A lot of people and monsters live here.
05:00Really?
05:00Does Ms. Hampton have to deliver mail to all of them?
05:04That's my job, Elmo.
05:05Wow.
05:06That's a really big job.
05:08Let's go inside.
05:09Okay.
05:12How does Ms. Hampton know which letter goes in which box?
05:16The mailboxes have numbers and letters on them.
05:19See?
05:19This is for A.
05:22And the letter says...
05:23Oh, for A.
05:25Right.
05:26So this letter goes in this box.
